U.S. Envoy to Taiwan Bids Farewell With Gratitude After 3 Years

Sandra Oudkirk, the U.S.’s top diplomat in Taiwan, says goodbye after completing her three-year term as director of the American Institute in Taiwan.

00:08As I prepare to depart, I am convinced to the core of my being that the future is bright for the United States and Taiwan,

00:16and we will continue to do great things together.

00:19There is no farewell in the world, but Taiwan will always be a special place in my heart. Thank you, Taiwan.

00:31Aldkirk served as director of the de facto U.S. embassy, the American Institute in Taiwan, since 2021.

00:39She was the first woman to hold the position.

00:42Earlier this week, the foreign ministry presented her with a diplomacy medal for her work to enhance U.S.-Taiwan relations.

00:49Aldkirk's former deputy, Raymond Green, will take over as the new director of AIT.
