00:00On this June 28, I witnessed the return of two Philippine eagles from Leyte, Ceosuag and Cardito.
00:15This is going to be historical because this is the first time that a Philippine eagle has been reintroduced in the out-of-Mindanao area.
00:26But before they were released to the wild, the Philippine Eagle Foundation conducted an assessment for 10 years.
00:33Checking the DNAs of the Philippine eagles in Mindanao.
00:39The DNA analysis showed that all the Philippine eagles from the four islands are considered one species.
00:46So that's very good for us because then we can move eagles from one island to another.
00:50Philippine eagles used to have sightings in the province.
00:54But when the Yolanda typhoon hit Leyte in 2013, the eagles were also lost in the wild.
01:05Ceosuag was rescued in Mount Apo in 2023 by a male eagle.
01:11While Carlito, a female eagle, was rescued in Agusan del Sur in 2022.
01:21Before they were released to the wild, I was given a chance to examine them.
01:28Let's listen to his heart rate.
01:37He was struggling earlier.
01:39All primary feathers are complete and none of them are damaged.
01:48I shall return. It seems that this is true for our eagles.
01:55Now that they will return to the wild, it will serve as a reminder that there is hope to save their species.
02:08Thank you for watching Born to be Wild.
