00:48Hey everybody, Paul Brey, Family Friendly Gaming, this is FG Chronicles on skill-based
00:53matchmaking.
00:56It sounds like a really good idea, you know, play games of the people of the same skill,
01:01but in my experience, it hasn't really worked too well.
01:05I'll give you an example, so, let's say I'm playing Fall Guys.
01:09If I play solo, based on, I guess they're going after crown level, I guess they're going
01:14after how many wins you've had, I don't really know.
01:18They're kind of not really open and transparent about how they actually do the matchmaking.
01:23But my experience is, I do solos, and I feel like I am competing against the best of the
01:28best.
01:29Like, I am just like at top tier, fighting to just qualify and make it to the final round.
01:37And it used to be, I could make it to the final round every single match, and I would
01:42be competing for the crown every single match, right, like, it was just non-stop.
01:49Now, I guess I've reached a level where I am struggling in solo to even get to final
01:55round.
01:56Now, here's what's fascinating.
01:59They're pushing duos, they're pushing squads, okay?
02:03So I keep getting on squads, where let's say I will place first, second, third, fourth,
02:11fifth.
02:12So I'll place top five out of 60 people, okay?
02:16And the rest of my squad doesn't even qualify, they don't even finish, they DNF.
02:23Or maybe one makes it.
02:24Or I've seen someone just messing around and not even trying, and I'm like, what is going
02:31on here, MediaAtomic?
02:33Why do you keep matching me with people who are obviously completely incompetent at the
02:39game, but they want to go play another mode?
02:42It's like, I am up against the best of the best, you know what I'm saying?
02:46It's like super sweaty competition, there's a bunch of sweaty players there.
02:49And I'm like, I don't understand, the matchmaking makes no sense to me.
02:56I have had multiple instances where I'm playing duos, and the person leaves.
03:05Like I will get like, I remember one recently, I got second place.
03:10They are there for me, getting second place, for me qualifying.
03:13So I qualify, second place.
03:17And then they just leave the game.
03:20And I'm like, what?
03:22I might make another round or two, but once in a survival, it's really hard to survive
03:27with just yourself, because the game doesn't like double your points, because your squad
03:31mate quit and left and was completely lame, plus you can't really report them either.
03:35It's like, hey, I don't even know who they were.
03:38They just left, they just, you know, they ghosted.
03:41Like, why?
03:43Now maybe they had technical issues, maybe they had problems, I don't know.
03:46But again, the matchmaking there is horrible.
03:49They're not matching people the same skill.
03:51So it's almost like they're saying, okay, in squads and duos, we're going to take someone
03:55up here, and we're going to give the rest of them at the bottom level, put them together,
04:01you'll carry the squad.
04:02Well, sometimes I can carry the squad, sometimes I can't.
04:05If I have a bad match, like I recently had a match where I got 10th place, okay, in the
04:11squads, 10th, and they DNFed in the duos, well, then we don't qualify.
04:19You know, we're eliminated round one.
04:22I'm like, why did you matchmake me with this person?
04:26They aren't the same skill, they aren't similar skill, you know.
04:29It's like, you matchmake me to fail.
04:32And I guess that's one of my biggest issues, is the setup to failure that happens in a
04:37lot of these games.
04:38I've talked to Peter, and I've talked to Noah, and they have some of the same problems.
04:42It's almost like you have to know people to actually make it work.
