00:00You were saying that it's kind of bittersweet to say goodbye to this,
00:03and it was originally intended as a trilogy.
00:04I know there's been talk of maybe continuing,
00:06but I wondered, with the ending in particular,
00:10what was it that you wanted to achieve with Maxine's story?
00:12Well, I mean, it was really just meant to be one movie in the beginning,
00:15and then it just turned into this,
00:16and so I'm very proud of the three movies,
00:19and I'm cautious to mess it up.
00:22But, you know, in many ways, I wanted Maxine and all the movies
00:25to be standalone films by themselves.
00:27They're enriched if you've seen all three of them,
00:29but you don't need to see all three.
00:31And I wanted the ending of Maxine to be
00:34the appropriate ending to the movie Maxine,
00:36but also to feel like a conclusion of all three movies thematically.
00:40And that was a little harder.
00:43Well, I shouldn't say harder, but it was more pressure on myself,
00:46because the first two movies we made back-to-back,
00:47and no one knew we were even making them.
00:49This movie people did know,
00:51and there were fans at that point, and they were waiting for it.
00:53So to try to wrap up not only the story,
00:55but to wrap up the thematics of all three
00:58is a different challenge,
01:00and I think that was part of what was exciting to me,
01:04is to take on that challenge.
01:06So if we were to do anything more with these movies,
01:10I would just want to find a different way into it,
01:11because I think that we went about as far as we could
01:14with these three stories.
01:16But, you know, never say never.
01:18Yeah, never say never.
01:19I would always be curious to see The Puritan, for example,
01:22bringing that back with Lily Collins.
01:24Would you ever be interested in doing something like that?
01:26Yeah, I love Lily, so I'd be happy to make anything.
01:28I mean, the thing is, like, in about two weeks,
01:31I'm free of having to think about anything
01:34related to, like, the X universe at all,
01:36and that'll be the first time in five years
01:38that that's been the case.
01:38So I would love to just wake up and have, like, a week off,
01:41you know, and then we'll think about what's next,
01:45and could it be something in the world of all this?
01:47Sure, but maybe it's something else,
01:50and then come back to it later.
01:51Who knows?
01:52You know, I'm just...
01:53It's very strange to be on this side of it,
01:55you know, for the first time.
