Venezuela: Thousands rallied in support of Maduro on 1st day of presidential campaign

00:14I'm in downtown Caracas, where after the first day of the official presidential campaign of 2024
00:20began to come to an end, the entire crowd of Nicolas Maduro supporters
00:25has congregated on the Central Plaza behind Miraflores Palace
00:30at the last minute, joined by a huge motorcade of cyclists
00:35who've arrived making a lot of noise to show their support for Maduro in this year's election.
00:42The march from the west side of the city on Sucre Plaza to downtown took over three hours.
00:47Both sides of a major avenue were closed as tens of thousands of people
00:52marched, walked, danced and sang their way down the street.
00:57A crowd made up almost entirely of working class Venezuelans.
01:01And this is just day one of the campaign which is going to go on until July 25th
01:07with the election day marked for what would have been Hugo Chavez's 70th anniversary on July 28th.
01:16This is the 31st election that's been held in Venezuela since the democratic revolution of 1999
01:24and Nicolas Maduro's PSUV, National Socialist Union Party,
01:30has made a major show of strength here on the streets of Caracas.
