00:00I have two questions on Bolivia.
00:03First, former President of Bolivia Evo Morales and also
00:05Argentine President Javier Millet
00:07have accused President Luis Arce of staging a self-coup
00:11last week.
00:12Does the administration believe any evidence
00:15if this was the case?
00:18So look, I want to be really mindful here.
00:25We have seen the false allegations of US involvement
00:29in the events of Bolivia on June 26.
00:32I know that's something that has come up a couple times.
00:34And so I want to make sure that it is clear
00:37that the US had no involvement in that.
00:39Look, we certainly condemn, strongly condemn,
00:44the deployment of army units in Bolivia
00:47in any attempt to subvert a constitutional order.
00:49And we are going to continue, and I said this last week,
00:51we're going to continue, or the week before,
00:53stand by democracy and the people of Bolivia.
00:56And that is where we're going to continue to stand.
01:00Can I have another one?
01:01Sure.
01:02With the US government and the Venezuelan government
01:04resuming negotiations today, I wanted
01:07to get, if you can give us a clearer picture of what
01:10entails and how far the US government is willing to go.
01:14So two questions on that.
01:16Would the US government be willing to alleviate sanctions?
01:19And is there any plan for Maduro to sit down from power
01:24without fear of continued legal prosecution?
01:28So to your question about the dialogue that's happening,
01:32we certainly welcome that in good faith, right,
01:35the dialogue in good faith.
01:37So we welcome that.
01:38We're clear-eyed that democratic change will not be easy
01:40and requires serious commitment.
01:43So we remain committed to supporting
01:45the will of the people of Venezuela
01:47and a path toward democratic governance
01:49via competitive and also inclusive elections.
01:53Any specific details about that, I
01:55don't have any to share about the diplomatic engagement.
01:58But we certainly welcome it in good faith.
02:01And that's what we want to see.
