00:00:00You're relaxing in your room and streaming some good tunes when suddenly, the network's
00:00:09down.
00:00:10You try rebooting your phone, but there's still no connection.
00:00:13Out of nowhere, your sister barges into your room in panic.
00:00:16She's screaming something about rings.
00:00:19Boxing rings?
00:00:20Wedding rings?
00:00:21Rings on the tub?
00:00:22She's not making any sense.
00:00:23So she drags you out of the house and shows you the sky.
00:00:27You take a look up and see streaks of objects forming miles above the Earth's surface.
00:00:31Her connection seems to work.
00:00:33The two of you check online what's going on, and everywhere, the same thing is making headlines.
00:00:38Rings are suddenly appearing in our sky.
00:00:41Hashtag EarthRings is breaking the record, and videos are going super viral.
00:00:46Your sister can't help but join the crowd and takes a bunch of selfies with the sky.
00:00:50You run to the TV in your living room to check out the news.
00:00:54Fans are warning about a coming catastrophe and explaining that everyone should remain
00:00:58indoors.
00:00:59Even though it's a cloudless day in the middle of summer, the weather seems to be getting
00:01:03colder and colder.
00:01:04Suddenly, the signal's cut off.
00:01:07Other channels show nothing either.
00:01:09Then you see your neighbors packing their bags and heading out.
00:01:12Others follow suit.
00:01:13You hesitate a bit, but decide to do the same in the end.
00:01:17Your sister is still outside taking selfies when you urge her to come along with you to
00:01:21seek some answers.
00:01:24The two of you hop in your car and drive out into the city.
00:01:27The rings above seem to be gaining more mass with each second.
00:01:31You and your sister are getting colder and colder.
00:01:33You head to the university to see if anyone knows anything, but there's no one there.
00:01:38Only one parked car in the line.
00:01:40And it's a good thing you recognize that car.
00:01:43You and your sister rush in and find the astronomy professor doing some quick calculations and
00:01:48trying to figure out why all this is happening.
00:01:51He urges you to take seats and begins explaining.
00:01:54No one knows what this is all about, but it's limiting the Sun's exposure on Earth.
00:01:58Which explains why it's getting colder by the minute.
00:02:01Why the rings are getting thicker is a mystery too.
00:02:04On Saturn, the rings are made up of ice and rock particles.
00:02:07They can be as small as an ant or the size of a bus.
00:02:10The rocks could be left over meteor debris or even remnants of dwarf planets.
00:02:15But since Earth is so close to the Sun, ice wouldn't be something you'd find floating
00:02:19above us.
00:02:20With all these rocks piled up, they block the Earth's access to the Sun to warm us
00:02:24up and give us light.
00:02:26The professor goes on to explain that Earth will enter a new ice age, and oxygen levels
00:02:31will deplete within a year's time unless those newborn rings disappear anytime soon.
00:02:36This also explains why there's no connection.
00:02:39The rocks that form the rings are hitting and breaking the satellites.
00:02:43Suddenly you hear a loud ringing noise outside.
00:02:46The three of you head outside and see a helicopter blasting an alarm with a red light flashing.
00:02:56You get in your car with your sister, but the roads are jammed.
00:02:59You have to go on foot, which will take 2 hours.
00:03:02There's no way anyone can remain outdoors.
00:03:05You venture out seeing everyone stuck on the road.
00:03:07They're all arguing with each other and causing chaos.
00:03:10You try not to get caught in the middle of anything and sneak your way to the highway.
00:03:15With the rings getting thicker, less sunlight is breaking through.
00:03:18This ice age info is stuck in your head, chilling you even more.
00:03:22You take a deep breath and see a thin mist coming out of your mouth.
00:03:26The sky is getting darker, and you're still not home yet.
00:03:29Your sister is tired and needs to rest, but you urge her to move on.
00:03:33You find an abandoned clothes shop and head inside.
00:03:36The store clerks are actually giving away thick jackets for everyone to wear.
00:03:40You grab a couple and slip them on.
00:03:43Only one more hour to get home, but the sky is completely dark.
00:03:46There's no way you and your sister can go out in such conditions.
00:03:50So you decide to camp up in the clothes shop.
00:03:53They set up a mini bonfire in the middle of the shop and create makeshift sleeping bags
00:03:57with the rest of the unused clothes.
00:03:59Luckily, there's enough food to feed everyone, including you and your sister.
00:04:04It's the middle of the night.
00:04:07The fire goes out, and you can't see outside the shop.
00:04:11You head to the window and open it up.
00:04:13A huge pile of snow spills in and wakes everyone up.
00:04:17It's the middle of August, and a snowstorm formed overnight.
00:04:21Everyone is freezing, and they start the fire anew.
00:04:23There's no radio or any way to find out what's happening.
00:04:27The wind picks up and starts shaking the shop.
00:04:30Things start falling off the shelves, but you and everyone else are cozy by the fire.
00:04:34The next day, you look outside and see the entire area covered in snow.
00:04:39You live in a sunny place where it barely rains, and the rains in the outer atmosphere
00:04:43are even bigger than last night.
00:04:45Out of nowhere, a truck filled with people pulls over, and the driver tells you there's
00:04:50a shelter for everyone some miles away.
00:04:53The truck has chains all over the tires and is equipped for the worst snowy conditions.
00:04:57Even though it's morning, the sky is pretty dark.
00:05:00You and everyone else hop in.
00:05:03Abandoned cars, some with their doors still open, are scattered all over.
00:05:07The truck drives around them or just smashes through the ones in the way.
00:05:11It pulls over next to an ambulance and takes all the equipment to help the ones in need.
00:05:16You drive past your neighborhood and see your entire house covered in snow.
00:05:20The large tree in your backyard has fallen under the weight of the snow and broken the
00:05:25roof, allowing snow to flood in.
00:05:27The truck speeds through and gets to the shelter, which, to your surprise, is the mall.
00:05:33You get out and see many of the townspeople being led to various stores that have now
00:05:37turned into dorms and health units.
00:05:39You're left in a sports store with a bunch of other people.
00:05:42Your sister has also been able to bunk with you, and to your luck, you see the professor
00:05:47helping out some people.
00:06:00But shortly after that, a loud explosion blasts through the mall and shatters glass screens.
00:06:05Everyone ducks for cover.
00:06:07You see people running outside.
00:06:08You head out and see a large metallic object lying in front of the mall entrance.
00:06:13There are people crowding the entire area, so it's not easy to see what all the fuss
00:06:17is about.
00:06:18But after getting a closer look, you find out it's a satellite fallen from orbit.
00:06:23It crashed in the front yard and made the boom.
00:06:26There were also reports of other satellites crashing on Earth in the most random places.
00:06:31That means all communication has been wiped out of the map.
00:06:35You run back inside the mall to await what happens next.
00:06:38You look at your sister in fear, not knowing that the new Ice Age has just begun.
00:06:49One Year Later You're relaxing in your bunker when your
00:06:54sister barges in, freaking out.
00:06:56The rings are still there, but it's something else now.
00:06:59You run outside and see everyone gathering around and looking at the sky.
00:07:03Within a year, temperatures have dropped to freeze the entirety of the Earth's surface.
00:07:08Deserts and tropical jungles have turned into icy wastelands.
00:07:12More than half of the wildlife went extinct, and trees are as rare as a four-leaf clover,
00:07:17which means oxygen levels have dropped significantly.
00:07:21Most of the population, or what's remaining of it, live with oxygen tanks, with scientists
00:07:25still trying to crack the case of the rings.
00:07:28Exactly what the professor predicted.
00:07:31Up in the sky, rocks seem to be falling down and crashing all over.
00:07:36It starts off far away, but then the rocks begin to fall down close by.
00:07:40You and everyone else run back into the mall, which has been covered with a layer of metal
00:07:45to keep the warmth inside.
00:07:47It should be pretty safe in there.
00:07:49If the rocks are falling down, that means the rings are dissipating.
00:07:52Suddenly, you're full of hope that the Ice Age might be over soon.
00:07:58Ah, it's a lovely day for a boat ride in the swamp.
00:08:03If not for these mosquitoes, then today would be perfect.
00:08:07But for some reason, the mosquitoes keep getting bigger the further you go into the swamp.
00:08:12They started out as tiny, almost invisible insects, and can now be the size of your thumb.
00:08:18You can hear their buzzing as they whiz past you.
00:08:21You go deeper to investigate why they're so big.
00:08:24Eventually, you see a large cluster of mosquitoes the size of your hand buzzing around.
00:08:30They notice you and start flying towards you.
00:08:32You grab a branch and start swatting them away.
00:08:36You run back to your boat and try to escape, but they follow you, and some manage to land on you.
00:08:41You swat them away, but more mosquitoes pop out of nowhere the size of a basketball.
00:08:47You start your boat and speed your way back to the mainland.
00:08:50As you arrive, you see everyone running away in a frenzy, panicking because of the giant mosquitoes.
00:08:57Some of them are as big as a large dog.
00:09:00People are ducking under picnic tables, while some are running back to their cars and driving away.
00:09:06You get off the boat and run toward the closest grocery store, along with dozens of people.
00:09:11The employees lock up the gates, but the large glass panels show the mosquitoes multiplying.
00:09:16They're getting bigger and bigger until you can see one as big as a car zipping by.
00:09:21It's so strong that it landed on an empty car and crushed it.
00:09:26Everyone inside is ducking away out of fear.
00:09:28You try to calm everyone down and not make any noise.
00:09:32The mosquitoes are landing on the glass panel, blocking out the natural light.
00:09:36It's getting dark inside.
00:09:38Someone turns up the volume on the TV to the breaking news.
00:09:42Mosquitoes are flying rampant all across the continent,
00:09:45destroying natural resources and infiltrating cities.
00:09:49People are advised to stay indoors until further notice.
00:09:52The mosquitoes notice that there are people in the store, so they try to get in by force.
00:09:58A car-sized mosquito flies around in the sky, unaware of what's happening below.
00:10:03Everyone hears some noise coming from the back room.
00:10:06The employees realize they didn't lock the doors.
00:10:09A large mosquito enters and knocks down everything.
00:10:13Everyone runs around in a panic while throwing random stuff at it.
00:10:17Some people grab a fire extinguisher and spray it until it flies to the back room.
00:10:22Some employees lock the door and barricade it so that nothing can enter.
00:10:27Everyone waits nervously.
00:10:28The TV broadcasts some live coverage of how giant mosquitoes are flying everywhere.
00:10:33A helicopter is forced to land because the mosquitoes are flying around wildly in the skies.
00:10:39Everyone shudders when they hear the sound of more mosquitoes buzzing around near the back door.
00:10:45Hours pass, and more mosquitoes keep coming endlessly.
00:10:49There are no people outside, and much of the urban and landscape design in the park
00:10:53is destroyed or overrun by giant insects.
00:10:57Some people eat whatever is available, while some are sleeping.
00:11:01A piece of breaking news interrupts the live coverage
00:11:04and shows that there will be armored buses ready to pick up people near the picnic site.
00:11:08However, the buses won't drive to hot spots since it'll be too dangerous.
00:11:13The only way to get on them is by being on the highway in two hours.
00:11:18Everyone tries to call their loved ones, but the cell towers have been knocked down,
00:11:22and no one can call anyone.
00:11:24The mosquito that broke in a while ago destroyed the only landline that was present.
00:11:28People are arguing about whether they should stay or go.
00:11:32More insects cover the only clear patches of the sky until the sun disappears.
00:11:37The people split into two parties, those who are leaving to catch the bus and those who want to stay.
00:11:43The employees know a back way that can quickly lead to the highway.
00:11:47The only problem is that it'll take around 20 minutes on foot, and there are no cars to use.
00:11:53The way is tricky.
00:11:54First, they would need to escape through the main entrance
00:11:57and head through the bushy forest behind the dumpsters.
00:12:00Over there, they can enter a building, possibly through the sewers,
00:12:04which will lead to the lake next to the highway.
00:12:07The first party decides to leave.
00:12:09They prepare supplies for the breakout.
00:12:11Every second, more mosquitoes arrive, covering the sky.
00:12:15They gear up with anything they can find to protect themselves.
00:12:19Mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide that people breathe out,
00:12:22and they know that there's a source coming from the grocery store.
00:12:26Once everyone is ready, they get some makeshift torches and light them up.
00:12:30They add some barbecue fuel to keep the fire going.
00:12:34You're part of the party that is planning to escape.
00:12:36The doors open, and everyone makes a break for it behind the dumpster.
00:12:40Many mosquitoes try to attack you, but the smoke from the fire repels them.
00:12:45Every second, more mosquitoes are filling the sky and the environment.
00:12:49Many people end up running back into the store,
00:12:52since they couldn't make it past the dumpster to the other building.
00:12:55Eventually, the rest of the people, including yourself, run toward the building.
00:12:59But it's locked, and no one can break down the door.
00:13:03Plan B is to break the glass from a window and crawl inside.
00:13:06You grab a rock and smash the closest window.
00:13:10The only problem is that the mosquitoes can follow you inside.
00:13:14So without any options left,
00:13:16you pull through and run to the basement of the building to find the entrance to the sewer.
00:13:20Success!
00:13:21You've found it, and everyone descends to the bottom.
00:13:24No mosquitoes in sight, just rats.
00:13:27You're walking knee-high in sewer water, with it flowing past you.
00:13:31But it's only a few minutes until you reach the river.
00:13:35Another problem is that the sewer isn't going to the lake,
00:13:38but somewhere deep into the sewer channels.
00:13:40You follow it until you see what looks like an outlet.
00:13:43You make it out and are near a waterhole,
00:13:46where all the discarded sewage leads next to the swamp.
00:13:49The only problem is that you're not next to the highway anymore,
00:13:53and time is running out.
00:13:55More mosquitoes are swarming the air, but they don't bother buzzing next to you.
00:13:59You notice some cat-sized creatures floating on the water.
00:14:03These are baby mosquitoes, or the larva.
00:14:06And they're coming your way!
00:14:08You and everyone else swim for your lives to the shore.
00:14:11The giant alpha mosquito soars into the air,
00:14:14and swoops down to try and grab someone, but it misses.
00:14:19Everyone makes it to the thick swampy area, where no giant mosquitoes can enter.
00:14:23Everyone covers themselves with branches to protect themselves.
00:14:27Fifteen minutes until the armored bus arrives.
00:14:29Since the mosquitoes can't enter, this will be the best place to hide until then.
00:14:34Darkness falls, and still, no bus!
00:14:37It's been three hours, and nothing!
00:14:39The mosquitoes are still buzzing around,
00:14:41and everyone is getting uncomfortable under the thick bushes.
00:14:44After a while, everyone hears a roaring engine,
00:14:48and sees lights flashing on the highway!
00:14:50Everyone gets up and runs to the bus,
00:14:53but you stop them to not draw the mosquitoes' attention.
00:14:56You volunteer to sneak out and stop the bus,
00:14:58and then everyone else can follow without drawing too much attention.
00:15:02You move a couple of branches, step over some tree bark, and crawl to the highway.
00:15:07You try to hold your breath so that you won't make any heavy breathing sounds.
00:15:11You reach the side of the road and wave your arms to stop the bus.
00:15:15It pulls over, and the door opens.
00:15:18You signal the rest of the people to follow, and they follow your lead.
00:15:21Everyone is inside and safe.
00:15:24Some mosquitoes notice and start pecking on the bus, but the armor is sturdy.
00:15:29The bus drives off, looking for other people along the road,
00:15:32and suddenly, a Goliath lands in front of you!
00:15:36The bus stops, and sees a mosquito the size of a Boeing 747!
00:15:40It looks straight at you.
00:15:42It gets ready to attack, but the bus speeds under its legs and drives off.
00:15:47The mosquito takes off and tries to catch the bus,
00:15:50but you enter a tunnel to the other side of the mountain.
00:15:53After a few minutes, you reach an open area with no trees or buildings.
00:15:58The bus is speeding while dodging obstacles along the way.
00:16:01Finally, you notice you are near the grocery store where you were held up.
00:16:05The bus opens the door for everyone inside to be taken to a safe zone.
00:16:09You hear from the aid workers that the whole world is being overrun by these giant creatures.
00:16:15As you drive along, you see a hybrid mosquito that has two heads and a scorpion's tail!
00:16:22It's as tall as a Statue of Liberty, and it's ready to attack!
00:16:26Whatever is causing these mosquitoes to grow abnormally
00:16:29is also making them into hybrids and mutants!
00:16:32And you thought it was going to be a good Monday!
00:16:37Day 1.
00:16:38A small but powerful tremor is shaking the city of Naples, Italy.
00:16:42The news networks are reporting on the event.
00:16:45The experts believe that Mount Vesuvius,
00:16:47the stratovolcano on the Gulf of Naples, will explode soon.
00:16:51But when?
00:16:52It's erupted many times in the past.
00:16:55In fact, that's how it got its shape.
00:16:57It's made of multiple layers of hardened lava, pumice, and ash.
00:17:01Vesuvius last erupted in 1944, but a major blast happened there nearly 2,000 years ago.
00:17:08It buried the Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum and decimated the surrounding areas.
00:17:14Today, 3 million people live less than 20 miles from the volcano,
00:17:19and 600,000 live in the danger zone.
00:17:22Large eruptions happen every few thousand years, usually after long periods of calm.
00:17:27And the trouble is, Vesuvius is long overdue for its next one.
00:17:32This time, though, the volcano is being watched by the Vesuvius Observatory.
00:17:37It has seismic stations, special GPS arrays,
00:17:40and satellite-based radar to help it measure ground movement.
00:17:43They also have special equipment to test the chemicals found in the gases coming from the
00:17:48volcano.
00:17:49All of this helps the experts work out whether it's about to go off.
00:17:53But will it?
00:17:54Right now, the magma is more than 6 miles from the surface.
00:17:58Things seemed safe yesterday, but now they're about to take a turn for the worse.
00:18:04Day 3
00:18:05Another tremor comes in measuring 3 on the Richter scale.
00:18:09All the equipment that's installed near the volcano is now going off.
00:18:13The magma is pushing upwards.
00:18:15It's not at the surface yet, but Vesuvius is definitely restless.
00:18:20Two more tremors follow in the afternoon.
00:18:23They don't feel like regular earthquakes,
00:18:25and geologists can see the difference in their seismographs.
00:18:29Volcanic quakes register about 4 to 5 less on the Richter scale.
00:18:33Now, the experts are sure.
00:18:35It's just a matter of days or weeks until the volcano erupts.
00:18:39Some volcanoes can be restless for months or even years before they go off.
00:18:44But that's not how it goes with Vesuvius.
00:18:47Day 4
00:18:49The ground starts to crack open, as if a giant creature is trapped in the Earth's crust
00:18:54and is trying to desperately get out for some air.
00:18:56Steam escapes from the little cracks in the soil.
00:19:00Certain areas are hotter than others.
00:19:02If you went there, it would feel like you walked straight into an oven,
00:19:05and it would be hard to breathe.
00:19:07Some sheep got too close to the mountain and passed out.
00:19:10When the farmer found them, he almost collapsed too, not from the heat, but from the gases.
00:19:16Carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide are being released into the air.
00:19:20The entire area around the volcano smells like rotten eggs,
00:19:24and many of the forest animals are now staying clear.
00:19:27The nearby trees have been absorbing these gases from the soil for days on end now,
00:19:32and they're starting to turn brown.
00:19:34The carbon dioxide levels in the area are skyrocketing,
00:19:38and all the detectors are beeping constantly.
00:19:41Day 6
00:19:43The tremors are getting more frequent.
00:19:46Experts at the Vesuvius Observatory monitoring the volcano
00:19:49say the quakes are coming from the magma that's being pushed upwards.
00:19:53A few hours later, the National Emergency Alert goes out.
00:19:57Thousands of local people have around 15 days before the volcano erupts,
00:20:01and they need to evacuate their homes.
00:20:03The 600,000 people in the danger zone start to pack their suitcases and leave in cars and trucks.
00:20:09There's chaos everywhere.
00:20:11But in all that disorder, some people are standing still.
00:20:15They look around, trying to understand what's really going on.
00:20:18A few of them are taking photos of their homes.
00:20:21Others are streaming all the confusion on social media.
00:20:25But the senior citizens are just standing outside, looking at their houses one last time.
00:20:30They hope this is all just a false alarm.
00:20:33It's happened before, but who really knows?
00:20:38Day 7
00:20:40It was a sleepless night.
00:20:41Plenty of the locals have already left.
00:20:44Some good people from other towns drive to the area to help the residents evacuate faster.
00:20:49There's a massive traffic jam, but everyone expected it.
00:20:52This is why the evacuation started early.
00:20:55Ferries, trains, and buses have canceled their services to help the evacuees.
00:21:00They're all working on a tight schedule to make sure everyone gets out safe without any delays.
00:21:05Some people refuse to leave, but their neighbors eventually convince them to go.
00:21:10It will take 7 days to evacuate everyone, and these people will spread out to other
00:21:15areas of the country, not just to the nearby safe regions.
00:21:19Day 10
00:21:21More than half of the residents have now left the red zone.
00:21:24After the chaos, there's now silence, and it's interrupted by the eerie sounds of the tremors.
00:21:30Animals are being evacuated too.
00:21:33Many people are now trying to save as many animals from the forest as they can find.
00:21:39Day 16
00:21:40All 25 of the towns that were at risk have now been evacuated.
00:21:45The red zone is empty.
00:21:46But the tremors are getting stronger, as the volcano is a pressure cooker ready to explode.
00:21:53White smoke rises from the large opening on the mountaintop and the vents on the side.
00:21:58The molten rock moves toward the surface, and the pressurized gases form bubbles,
00:22:04just like the ones you see when you boil food.
00:22:07Suddenly, there are some loud booms, and then an explosion.
00:22:11It's loud enough to be heard thousands of miles away, and the shockwave is felt throughout Italy.
00:22:17Volcanic rock is thrown up into the air.
00:22:19A thick black mushroom cloud forms and expands into the sky.
00:22:24The birds abandon their nests and fly away in huge flocks.
00:22:28The red-hot lava is now spewing out of the volcano like a fountain.
00:22:32As it flows downward, it obliterates everything in its path.
00:22:36Then, there's a volcanic landslide.
00:22:39Part of the cone-shaped mountain falls off,
00:22:41and millions of tons of soil and rock break loose from the volcano's side and tumble down.
00:22:47The lava spreads on the slopes, and it slowly slides down into the forest and the farmlands.
00:22:53The plume of ash, pumice, and other kinds of rock has risen so high into the sky
00:22:58that people can see it from Rome.
00:23:00Then the tower of debris starts falling back to Earth.
00:23:04First comes the ash, then chunks of rock.
00:23:07The ash in the atmosphere is so dense that it's hard to breathe.
00:23:10The lava slowly spreads across the area and pulls down all the trees.
00:23:15All the nearby towns are shrouded in darkness and smoke.
00:23:19Buildings collapse, and all around there's a mixture of heated poisonous gas
00:23:24and rock moving faster than a car.
00:23:26Other rocks and more volcanic ash fall miles away from the volcano,
00:23:30hitting cars and destroying roofs.
00:23:33The sky is completely black as the lava keeps on coming.
00:23:37Slowly, all the nearby towns are submerged beneath the molten rock.
00:23:42Some of the lava even reaches the sea.
00:23:44Gigantic white steam covers the shore where it falls in, and the magma turns black.
00:23:50Now, a weird neon blue fire appears on the slopes of Vesuvius.
00:23:55This is caused by burning sulfuric gases.
00:23:57They're escaping at high pressure from the cracks in the volcano's surface.
00:24:02When they come into contact with the air, they ignite.
00:24:05These blue flames can reach 16 feet into the air.
00:24:08Now, all nearby flights are cancelled,
00:24:11and many planes have to change course to reach their destination.
00:24:14Ever since the national alert, no planes have been allowed to fly over the volcano.
00:24:19The clouds of volcanic ash can damage jet engines and other plane components.
00:24:24The water supply is now contaminated by streams of volcanic ash, and it smells unbelievably bad.
00:24:31In just a short amount of time, all that magma has made entire towns vanish.
00:24:36Only the roofs of taller buildings can be seen.
00:24:39After the big and explosive eruption, there are some smaller and quieter ones.
00:24:44At this stage, nobody knows if the volcano has stopped erupting yet,
00:24:49and absolutely no one can go anywhere near the area.
00:24:5410 years later
00:24:56Most parts of the Red Zone are now hidden under hardened but still warm lava,
00:25:01including the ancient site of Pompeii.
00:25:04Some people have started to forget about what happened.
00:25:06Others have begun their new lives elsewhere,
00:25:09and some don't even want to think about what happened to their old homes.
00:25:13But several of them are counting the days until they can go back.
00:25:18100 years later
00:25:21You're walking in what appears to be a wasteland of volcanic ash.
00:25:25You suddenly realize that you're standing on top of your great-grandparents' town.
00:25:30Everything is now submerged under a thick carpet of solidified lava.
00:25:35But below it all, just about everything is still intact, completely frozen in time.
00:25:42Millions of years ago, there were seas and oceans where deserts are today.
00:25:47What if it all comes back?
00:25:49Water instead of sand, where deserts used to be.
00:25:52Life on the planet would change completely.
00:25:55Sand can act like a liquid if a strong enough airflow makes it rise from below.
00:26:00The air reduces friction between sand particles, making more space.
00:26:04The particles begin to move freely, as if they're in a liquid.
00:26:07If a huge vent suddenly opened under the Earth's crust, blowing air from beneath,
00:26:12then perhaps the entire landscape would begin to sink like being in quicksand.
00:26:18Such monuments as the Egyptian pyramids or the Sphinx would sink under the ground.
00:26:23Huge cities built on sand would disappear.
00:26:26The Sahara Desert would resemble one bubbling cauldron.
00:26:30Camel caravans would simply fall down.
00:26:32But don't worry, the animals wouldn't get hurt.
00:26:35Liquid sand is filled with oxygen, so they'd be able to swim in it.
00:26:41But what if sand turned into water instead of just a liquid version of itself?
00:26:45If this happened quickly and unexpectedly,
00:26:48then disasters would occur on all the beaches of the world.
00:26:52Imagine you're sunbathing on an air mattress on a sandy beach of a seaside resort.
00:26:57You're wearing sunglasses, the sea waves are tickling your heels,
00:27:01gulls are squawking overhead, and you have iced tea in your hands.
00:27:04A perfect holiday.
00:27:06But then you feel your mattress moving.
00:27:08A wave hits you.
00:27:09You take off your glasses and find yourself in the middle of the sea.
00:27:13The entire beach has turned into water.
00:27:16It reaches way up to the road where cars drive and houses stand.
00:27:20You help people who were sunbathing nearby to climb on the mattress.
00:27:25You swim to the new shore, head home, turn on the TV,
00:27:29and see this is happening all over the world.
00:27:32Hundreds of thousands of beaches are flooded.
00:27:35Water overflows city streets and houses.
00:27:38People are scared.
00:27:39Some leave their homes, while others take surfboards and ride the waves.
00:27:44And while part of the world is trying to cope with a global flood of sandy shores,
00:27:48a fifth ocean is being formed at the same time.
00:27:53You get on a plane and fly over the largest sandy desert on the planet.
00:27:57The area of the Sahara Desert is 3.5 million square miles.
00:28:02This is almost the area of the entire USA.
00:28:05Billions of tons of sand turned into water in an instant.
00:28:09And all this water starts to spill over.
00:28:13Animals living in the sand, such as jerboa, scorpions, cobras, and many others,
00:28:18disappear from the face of the planet.
00:28:20The nearest countries are devastated by the flood.
00:28:24The new ocean connects to the Mediterranean, Red, and Tyrrhenian Seas.
00:28:28The water level in the world's oceans is rising so much
00:28:32that most island countries have to evacuate to continents.
00:28:36In coastal cities, people sit in cafes and enjoy life.
00:28:40Some are sunbathing, while others try to escape from the heat and the shade.
00:28:44Suddenly, the wind rises, and a shadow appears on the ground.
00:28:49People look at it, puzzled, and it keeps growing.
00:28:53Everyone looks up and sees that a huge tsunami is approaching the shore.
00:28:57Desert countries have it even worse.
00:29:00They're flooded at once, and turn into many small divided islands.
00:29:04And huge waves will hit the shores of port towns for a long time.
00:29:09The hottest places on the planet have become wet.
00:29:13Hot sands turned into almost boiling water.
00:29:16It quickly evaporates and forms huge rain clouds.
00:29:19Thanks to high humidity, the air pressure changes and strong winds begin to blow.
00:29:24They drive clouds all over the planet.
00:29:27Long rains begin all over the world, drenching everything.
00:29:32Water mixes with the world's oceans and cools down.
00:29:36The hottest places in the world are getting colder.
00:29:38With temperatures changing,
00:29:40tornadoes and hurricanes form in different parts of the world and ravage the planet.
00:29:45The face of the whole Earth is warping.
00:29:48New seas, lakes, and rivers form all over the world.
00:29:52Before, water comprised 70% of the planet's surface.
00:29:56Now, it's 90%.
00:30:00Fortunately, cataclysms don't last long.
00:30:03Even though sands cover a lot of land, they're not very thick.
00:30:07The depth of the ocean is hundreds of times deeper than the depth of sand in a desert.
00:30:12In some, the sand is only a few inches thick.
00:30:15Only the largest dunes may reach 150 feet in thickness.
00:30:20The water levels will rise drastically and will probably never return to what they used to be.
00:30:25But at least the weather will calm down sooner or later.
00:30:28But something bad is still going to happen.
00:30:32Every year, 2 billion tons of dust rise into the air.
00:30:36Most of it comes from deserts.
00:30:38Particles of this dust contain useful elements and bacteria.
00:30:41The wind carries them all over the planet.
00:30:44A quarter of this dust comes to rest in seas and oceans.
00:30:47Bacteria and nutrients feed small creatures in the ocean, such as phytoplankton or krill.
00:30:53These creatures, in their turn, are food for small fish and even whales.
00:30:58And the fish are food for predators, as well as for many land animals.
00:31:02So, if sands turn into water, the ocean will lose a lot of its nutrients.
00:31:07The good news is that it won't last long either.
00:31:10Nutrients and bacteria will adapt to the new conditions
00:31:14and will be able to evaporate with water, which condenses into rain clouds.
00:31:19The largest variety of the marine world lives in shallow waters not far from the coast.
00:31:24The desert turned into water gives ideal conditions for new life to develop.
00:31:29New species of animals appear that can survive in hot water.
00:31:33Many creatures that lived in hot sands have now adapted to marine life.
00:31:37Camels have learned to swim,
00:31:39and small reptiles can hold their breath underwater for a long time.
00:31:44Thanks to hot weather and shallowness,
00:31:46a huge amount of seaweed grows on the bottom that can withstand high temperatures.
00:31:51The new ocean now resembles a multicolored garden of marine plants.
00:31:57People are also trying to adapt.
00:31:59They build towns on massive wooden structures right on the water
00:32:02and attach them to the bottom with long chains.
00:32:06Fishing has become the main source of food for all humankind.
00:32:09Cars have become obsolete.
00:32:11Everyone wants boats.
00:32:13Famous expensive car brands now design luxury yachts and ships.
00:32:17Also, everyone learns to swim,
00:32:20and every resident of sea cities is an excellent swimmer.
00:32:24All the new water was fresh until it mixed with the sea and gained its saltiness.
00:32:29People have created special filters that turn this water fresh.
00:32:33Global stocks are increasing.
00:32:35There are almost no places left in the world where people don't have enough water.
00:32:40But what if our situation became stranger still,
00:32:43and all the sand on the planet,
00:32:45not only on beaches and in deserts,
00:32:47turned into liquid?
00:32:49All hourglasses in the world would accelerate
00:32:51because the water flows much faster than sand.
00:32:54Sand is also used for all types of construction works.
00:32:58They use it in the production of concrete and to lay a strong foundation.
00:33:02It would be impossible to create bricks and clay without sand.
00:33:06Almost all houses, not counting wooden ones, would simply fall apart.
00:33:12But wooden houses could just rot because of the high humidity levels.
00:33:17Sand is used for glass.
00:33:19Production of mirrors, windows, and light bulbs would be greatly reduced.
00:33:23World reserves of drinking water would decrease
00:33:25as sand is a natural filter for purification.
00:33:29There would be huge traffic jams on the roads because,
00:33:32well, there would be no roads to speak of.
00:33:35Imagine you're driving a car and its wheels turn into jelly.
00:33:39Road vehicles would be severely affected.
00:33:41Planes would also stop flying
00:33:43because sand is used in the construction of the runway.
00:33:46The only means of transportation left would be ships.
00:33:50Sand is present almost everywhere on our planet,
00:33:52so the water would begin to moisten and wash away the soil.
00:33:56The whole world would turn into a vicious marsh,
00:33:59and it would be very difficult to move around.
00:34:01The humidity levels would increase significantly,
00:34:04and thick fogs would appear every day.
00:34:08A huge number of scolopendras, salamanders, frogs,
00:34:11and other creatures that love humidity would take over the planet.
00:34:15Some insects may evolve and increase in size,
00:34:17thanks to the new ideal conditions.
00:34:20And people, if they survive at all,
00:34:22might grow scales to better transfer moisture.
00:34:25The Earth would look like a planet from a sci-fi movie.
00:34:29But fortunately, this isn't going to ever happen.
00:34:32It's dark, and you can't see anything.
00:34:35There's slime all over.
00:34:37The ground is soft and moving.
00:34:39You try to find your way around
00:34:41by feeling the moving walls around you.
00:34:44After a while, you hear some painful screams in the distance.
00:34:47You call out for help, but no one responds.
00:34:51You're a captain of a ship,
00:34:53and you were just consumed by the mighty kraken!
00:34:57You keep tumbling over,
00:34:58not knowing if you're even going in the right direction.
00:35:01The screams get louder and louder.
00:35:03It's only a matter of time before you see someone.
00:35:06As you make your next step,
00:35:08a large piece of wood swooshes past you,
00:35:11almost knocking you down.
00:35:12That piece of wood was from the ship that the kraken had swallowed.
00:35:16It had also swallowed the entire crew alive,
00:35:20so they must be somewhere inside the beast's belly.
00:35:23You keep following the screams.
00:35:25They lead you down another path that looks like an esophagus.
00:35:29You grab a piece of wood and slide down the slimy insides.
00:35:33It's dark, so you rip out a piece of cloth from your shirt
00:35:36and wrap it around a large plank, setting it on fire.
00:35:39This makeshift torch allows you to see where you're going in proper detail.
00:35:44You can see the large veins pumping inside.
00:35:47Each vein can fit more than three people through it.
00:35:50After a while, you start seeing more debris from your ship,
00:35:54including the treasures you had discovered and kept in the bottom.
00:35:57But now, those huge piles of gold are worthless
00:36:00since you're out looking for your crewmates in this dark, smelly interior.
00:36:05You reach a point where there seems to be multiple tunnels around,
00:36:08each leading to a different point.
00:36:10You know it's impossible to climb back out from the mouth,
00:36:13so going deeper is the only solution.
00:36:17You decide to go with your gut and slide down the smallest tunnel,
00:36:21which is covered in slime and other liquids.
00:36:23You snuff out your torch and tuck it away to use it again later.
00:36:27You slip through and get stuck for a while.
00:36:30The kraken is still swimming but seems to be taking a break and stops.
00:36:35The giant veins and blood vessels slow down
00:36:38and the flesh tunnel that you're crawling through becomes wider.
00:36:41Before you know it, you are plummeting down the large shaft
00:36:45until you reach a liquid pool.
00:36:47The second you splash in it,
00:36:49you start to feel the acid burning through your clothes.
00:36:52You're in one of the kraken's stomachs.
00:36:55You take off your shirt and paddle on a plank,
00:36:58rowing yourself across the acidic lake.
00:37:00You can see more broken pieces of your ship scattered around.
00:37:04Out of nowhere, the kraken springs into action and starts swimming rapidly.
00:37:09You don't have a choice but to hold onto the plank
00:37:12and keep yourself afloat without any acid going into your eyes.
00:37:16You shut them.
00:37:17Now, you're tossed further down the stomach where the digestion is happening.
00:37:22Over here, the acid is even stronger and melts anything that's in it.
00:37:26The smell is atrocious and you can't find your way to leave.
00:37:30But in the distance, you see some of your crew members
00:37:33stranded in the middle of a small stomach island.
00:37:36You see some sharks still swimming around that haven't been digested yet.
00:37:41There's nothing you can do at the moment but try to get through
00:37:44and make it to your crew members.
00:37:46You get on another piece of wood and row yourself toward them.
00:37:50This time, the stomach acid is melting the wood away.
00:37:54Luckily, someone from your crew tosses you another plank.
00:37:57So you hop onto it and row your way to them.
00:38:00You climb ashore.
00:38:01Everyone is happy to see you.
00:38:03You try to figure out a way out, but the exits are covered in acid.
00:38:07More water seeps in along with plenty of marine animals.
00:38:11The acid levels are rising and everyone huddles together.
00:38:15After a while, the kraken swallows a large humpback whale
00:38:19that's thrashing around the acidic water.
00:38:21It's making the kraken upset, so it starts moving, tossing everyone around.
00:38:27You, along with many others, land on the whale and hold onto it tight.
00:38:32It seems like the kraken wants to expunge the whale out somehow.
00:38:36The inner walls of the stomach contract until it shrinks enough to let the whale out.
00:38:41You and your crew members are still holding onto the whale, but it's not easy.
00:38:46Finally, the kraken spits out the whale and swims off to the bottom of the ocean.
00:38:51The new challenge is to swim to the surface to breathe.
00:38:54The whale pushes you and everyone else up.
00:38:57Without it, no one would have made it to the surface to catch some oxygen.
00:39:02You don't know where you are.
00:39:04Some of your crewmates grab onto some loose pieces of your ship to stay afloat.
00:39:08You swim to one and climb aboard.
00:39:10The sun is starting to set.
00:39:12There's nothing in sight.
00:39:14The crew is feeling cold and hungry.
00:39:16Worst of all, it's feeding time for the sharks.
00:39:20Everyone climbs up on their planks to stay out of the water.
00:39:23Before you know it, shark fins start to pop up from every corner.
00:39:27There's nothing to do except survive the night.
00:39:31The next day arrives.
00:39:33No one has managed to get any sleep.
00:39:36Everyone decides to fix all the planks together and row towards the sun.
00:39:40While other people debate another direction, the whole crew listens to your final word.
00:39:45The sun is scorching and everyone's energy is low.
00:39:49There's no fresh water to drink.
00:39:51No one can catch fish for eating.
00:39:53There's still the ever-looming threat of sharks and the kraken.
00:39:57One of your crew members spots something in the distance, which appears to be an island.
00:40:02Everyone cheers and hugs each other and paddles their way there.
00:40:06After a few hours, you reach the island and stuff your hands in the sand.
00:40:11Someone is running around while others embrace the sand and palm trees.
00:40:16But for some reason, something seems off.
00:40:18Some birds are flying around.
00:40:20They aren't scared of you.
00:40:22Everyone moves to the center of the island to discover if anyone has been here before.
00:40:27A small campfire sits in the middle of the island, but there are no signs of people anywhere.
00:40:32This island is too small to have any residents.
00:40:35There seems to be no sign of anyone who has ever visited it, besides the campfire.
00:40:40After a while, the island starts moving.
00:40:44Everyone climbs a tree and water covers the island.
00:40:47In the distance, you see a large figure emerge from the water and turn towards you.
00:40:53It's a giant sea turtle.
00:40:55You were on the back of a giant sea turtle this whole time.
00:40:59It moves gracefully across the water and stops after a couple of hours.
00:41:04The crew members build some huts and start a fire to cook some food and sleep comfortably.
00:41:09You look out in the distance and at the night sky, with the stars populating the horizon.
00:41:15You climb the highest tree to get some rest and peace.
00:41:19Far away, you see the kraken swimming around and getting closer to the turtle.
00:41:24But compared to it, the kraken is only the size of a shoe compared to a person.
00:41:30The next day, you tread around and discover the rest of the turtleback island.
00:41:36Some unique animals you've never seen before are living here.
00:41:39Some of the most exotic birds are flying around, and the animals don't seem to take you as a threat.
00:41:45You reach the top of the mountain covered with trees and vines to get a good look at the island.
00:41:50You have a panoramic view of everything
00:41:52and discover that there's a huge hole in the ground right below you.
00:41:57And you see what appears to be digging tools left by other explorers.
00:42:02You gather your crew and rush to the hole.
00:42:05You have to make your way through vines and climb over some challenging terrain to reach there.
00:42:10The main question is, where does this hole go if the bottom of this island is a giant turtle shell?
00:42:17You step on the site and see many abandoned tools and plans.
00:42:22You pick up a map and see that there is an X marking for treasures beyond anyone's imagination.
00:42:28You gather your crew. Everyone picks up some of the equipment.
00:42:32Another scary question is, why did they abandon this equipment?
00:42:37You study the plans. They state all the steps,
00:42:40except the final one, which no one seems to have figured out.
00:42:44After a while, you descend the hole and make your way towards the bottom.
00:42:48But what you discover is even more shocking than what you expected.
00:42:54And you'll have to find out what it is next time.
00:42:57Ah, such a beautiful day, isn't it? It is, until it all goes boom.
00:43:02That's gravity disappearing for just a second.
00:43:05Let's recap the events from the smallest to the largest scale.
00:43:08We'll start with you. Yes, you.
00:43:11If gravity is lost for a single second, unfortunately, you'll most probably be no more.
00:43:17Thing is, gravity doesn't only keep you anchored to the Earth,
00:43:20it also holds all the atoms inside your body together.
00:43:24If this force completely disappears even for such a short period of time,
00:43:28chances are you'll simply fly apart.
00:43:32If you don't, then you'll start floating above the ground.
00:43:35Not high, though, because one second isn't enough to fly too far away.
00:43:39If the gravity stops working only for you, then you'll levitate a little over an inch upwards
00:43:44and then fall back without consequences.
00:43:47Your thoughts will be occupied by the lack of oxygen in your lungs, though,
00:43:51because with no gravity, your blood will stop pumping.
00:43:56Now, if it affects the surrounding objects as well, you'll be lucky to be away from home
00:44:01because everything around you will float too.
00:44:03And after a second, all your cutlery, your bed, your wardrobes, etc. will smash down on the floor.
00:44:10Luckily, buildings and trees will probably stay put
00:44:13because they're strongly rooted in the ground by their own means.
00:44:16Still, the picture won't be pretty, and it'll be up to you to clean that mess.
00:44:21Aw, shucks.
00:44:23By the way, you surely know our planet is spinning and hurtling through space
00:44:28at mind-blowing speeds, so there's a chance that if gravity does turn off for a second,
00:44:33everything on the Earth's surface will succumb to inertia
00:44:36and fly horizontally at several hundred miles per hour.
00:44:39That will be an even bigger mess.
00:44:41But only if everything retains its mass.
00:44:44If it doesn't, then it should be no problem.
00:44:47Maybe.
00:44:49Yet the real trouble starts if the gravity disappears for the entire planet.
00:44:54The force of gravity is equal to the pressure from inside the Earth.
00:44:58And if the outside pressure is gone,
00:45:00nothing will stop the molten innards of our planet from bursting onto the surface.
00:45:04An immense earthquake will begin all over the Earth as the tectonic plates move upwards.
00:45:10Also, all the world's volcanoes will probably erupt too,
00:45:14since the lava will be pumped up with the pressure.
00:45:17If such a mega-eruption occurs, no life will survive except the sturdiest of creatures,
00:45:22such as tardigrades.
00:45:24The clouds of volcanic ash will spread across the whole planet, blocking the Sun.
00:45:30At first, the temperatures will rise due to the greenhouse effect.
00:45:34But then the planet will cool down, and a new ice age will begin.
00:45:38Optimistic?
00:45:40This will all happen even if the gravity returns after a second.
00:45:43Because the motion will already start, and it'll take a more powerful force to calm it down.
00:45:49Up above, the atmosphere of the Earth will simply evaporate.
00:45:53The air we breathe is also kept around the planet by the force of gravity.
00:45:57So, if it pops, we'll have nothing to fill our lungs with.
00:46:01When the gravity comes back in a second, the atmosphere will eventually gather itself back.
00:46:06But the damage will have been done already.
00:46:08It will take a lot of time for the air to return to its original composition.
00:46:14Meanwhile, in space, things are even worse.
00:46:17As far as we know, everything in the Universe is held together by gravity,
00:46:22including other planets, stars, galaxies, and even galactic clusters.
00:46:26On a cosmic scale, our planet is but a fleck of dust, having a really tiny mass.
00:46:32The Sun is incredibly huge by comparison.
00:46:35It's 109 times bigger in diameter, and over 300,000 times more massive.
00:46:41Which is why its gravity is able to keep so many planets in its orbit.
00:46:46And now that enormous force is just poof!
00:46:50Even though it's only a second, the immense pressure of gas from inside our star makes
00:46:54it explode, sending a heat wave far greater than anything we've ever experienced in history.
00:47:00Now, the Sun will most likely survive because a second is too short a period of time for the
00:47:05star to inflate too much.
00:47:07But the same can't be said about Mercury, Venus, Earth, and probably Mars too.
00:47:12Mercury, being the closest, will probably be simply incinerated.
00:47:16The temperature on Venus is already extremely high, but it will spike even more, scorching
00:47:22its surface.
00:47:23Good thing it's not inhabited.
00:47:25And bad thing that Earth is.
00:47:27The heat wave from the Sun will probably obliterate our atmosphere first and then do the same
00:47:32with the surface.
00:47:33So, from the looks of it, nothing will be able to survive.
00:47:37Again.
00:47:38Oh well.
00:47:40But that's not even close to the end.
00:47:42Our Sun is one of the smallest stars in the Universe, the biggest known one being about
00:47:471,500 times larger and more massive.
00:47:50If such a giant loses its gravity for a second, everything around it for millions upon millions
00:47:56of miles will simply disintegrate, including other smaller stars.
00:48:01But the objects with the most mass and, as a result, the most gravity are neutron stars
00:48:07and black holes.
00:48:08Both of them are extremely small for their mass, like me.
00:48:12But the pressure inside them is so immense that the loss of gravity for even a fraction
00:48:17of a second might mean a tremendous space explosion.
00:48:21And with a whole second, it's basically warranted.
00:48:24Nobody knows for sure, though, how black holes operate, so there's a chance that something
00:48:29else will happen with them.
00:48:31Or nothing at all.
00:48:33Finally, on the largest scale, if gravity decides to take a second-long break, surprisingly,
00:48:40nothing much will happen.
00:48:41Planets will mostly retain their orbits, although they might change a little bit, and
00:48:46if we talk about galaxies or galactic clusters, those won't even notice anything.
00:48:52The biggest changes will be local because, as I said earlier, stars will explode, and
00:48:57the larger the blast, the more it will affect the neighboring celestial bodies.
00:49:01For example, if a star large enough sends a wave of energy in the direction of our Solar
00:49:07System, it might send asteroids flying toward us from the Oort Cloud.
00:49:11Those space rocks fall onto the Moon and even Earth quite regularly, but they're mostly
00:49:16rather small.
00:49:18The ones sent to us by a star explosion, however, might be a lot bigger and more dangerous.
00:49:23We will be protected by other planets, but still, the chances of collision will be a
00:49:28lot higher than normal.
00:49:30But who cares, really?
00:49:31We'll be toast by then!
00:49:33Obviously, this is all just speculation.
00:49:36Nobody knows for sure what will happen if gravity suddenly decides to stop working even
00:49:41for a second.
00:49:42What we know, though, is that it can't happen without numerous laws of physics being broken
00:49:47all at once.
00:49:48Scientists are pretty certain such a turning off is impossible altogether.
00:49:53For this to happen, everything in the Universe will have to lose its mass first.
00:49:57Mass is the main reason things have gravity.
00:50:00So, the heavier the object, the more gravity it has.
00:50:04Even you have it.
00:50:05It's just so small that you can't feel it.
00:50:07But if you were several million times more massive, you'd probably be the center of
00:50:12everyone's attention.
00:50:14Hey, I'd use that opportunity!
00:50:18You've spent your entire life researching microorganisms.
00:50:22Last few years, you've been creating a device that can shrink you in size.
00:50:27And finally, it's ready.
00:50:29At first, you want to shrink yourself to the size of a thumb so you can probably see some
00:50:34microbes with the unaided eye.
00:50:36And then, after more experimenting, you hope to shrink to the size of a bacterium yourself.
00:50:43To make the journey safe, you put on a special suit, similar to a spacesuit.
00:50:48It's equipped with a life support system.
00:50:51You direct a beam from the device at yourself.
00:50:54The beam must change your mass and volume.
00:50:57To return to the previous state, you must stand on a round platform the size of a hockey
00:51:02puck.
00:51:02You put it near your feet so you can easily climb on it when you get smaller, press the
00:51:07button, and activate the machine.
00:51:09Ooh, something's wrong.
00:51:11The device gives an error and you shrink not to the size of a thumb, but a thousand times
00:51:16smaller to the size of a bacterium.
00:51:19Oops.
00:51:20You become so small that the fleece of the carpet on which you were standing seems to
00:51:25be the size of huge trees.
00:51:28Now don't panic.
00:51:29You need to find the puck, stand on it, and you'll return to your normal size.
00:51:34It was right next to your feet, just an inch away.
00:51:37Wait, but what's one inch now, when a thousand people your size can fit on the tip of a human
00:51:43hair?
00:51:44You decide to climb the fleece to see where the puck is.
00:51:47You can't see the lab ceiling.
00:51:49The room is out of focus because of its huge size.
00:51:53You're surrounded by thousands of bacteria.
00:51:56They're so different in sizes and colors, but you can identify three main forms.
00:52:02Round bacteria that look like spheres are cocci.
00:52:05They can merge with each other and increase in size.
00:52:08Cylindrical capsule-shaped bacteria, looking like sausages or bananas, these are bacilli.
00:52:15And spirobacteria are called spirilla.
00:52:18At the end of their body, they have a hair-like cilium.
00:52:22Bacteria are essential for our planet.
00:52:24They help to produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide.
00:52:28They purify the water and air, digest the food inside our stomachs, and improve our
00:52:33immune system.
00:52:34They're crawling on the ground all over the carpet.
00:52:37You start climbing the fleece.
00:52:39On your way, you meet cocci that look like huge potatoes, spirilla similar to spaghetti.
00:52:46After a few hours, you've finally reached the top of the carpet.
00:52:50For you, it was a long time, but in reality, just a couple of minutes have passed.
00:52:55The smaller you are, the slower the time's going.
00:52:58Do you remember how difficult it is to swat a fly?
00:53:01That's because it sees your movements in slow motion.
00:53:05So, looking around, you see an endless forest of fleece.
00:53:09In the distance, you can see the silhouette of a big mountain with a flat top.
00:53:14It seems bigger than Everest to you.
00:53:17Great.
00:53:17Now you need to get there alive.
00:53:20Suddenly, a huge bacterium attacks you from below.
00:53:24It's several bacillus joined together.
00:53:27They look like a bunch of sausages.
00:53:29To escape, you jump down.
00:53:31You weigh so little that falling from any height is safe.
00:53:35You run through the dense forest.
00:53:37You notice that almost all bacteria are going at you.
00:53:40Most of them eat organic material, such as glucose or carbohydrates.
00:53:45And right now, hey, lucky you, you're the biggest source of carbs.
00:53:49Smaller microbes stick to your legs, arms, and face.
00:53:53You shake them off and fall.
00:53:55Several bacilli joined together are approaching.
00:53:58But then, a round object with spikes the size of a football crashes into them.
00:54:03You see a lot of these balls and realize they're viruses.
00:54:07Microorganisms that can't live apart from bacteria.
00:54:11To reproduce, they must infect a living being.
00:54:14The viruses have entered the bacterium.
00:54:17Other bacteria that chased you are attacked too.
00:54:20You see a gigantic bacterium that looks like a passenger Boeing without wings.
00:54:25It's a type of kachi.
00:54:27Several big balls attached to each other and about to eat you.
00:54:31You see a small prickly football getting inside its body.
00:54:34The bacterium shivers and freezes.
00:54:37After a moment, a hole appears in it, and hundreds of thousands of viruses fly out.
00:54:43They're everywhere and looking for a new host.
00:54:46Prickly balls fly towards you at high speed.
00:54:49You grab a piece of lint and swing it like a baseball bat.
00:54:53You fight off the viruses one by one.
00:54:56Your bat breaks, and you run away.
00:54:58It seems that you're safe now.
00:55:01You're entering a huge field.
00:55:03There's nothing here but bacteria.
00:55:05You realize this is a small spot on the carpet that you accidentally burned a few months ago.
00:55:11There's a billion microbes here, and they're multiplying at a tremendous rate.
00:55:15One bacterium increases in size and splits into two.
00:55:19After a few minutes, these two bacteria also grow and divide.
00:55:23Now there are four of them.
00:55:25The colony of bacteria grows exponentially.
00:55:29With such rapid reproduction, a single bacterium can create offspring weighing about a ton
00:55:34in 24 hours.
00:55:36After five days, the bacteria will be able to fill all the seas and oceans.
00:55:41Fortunately, the speed with which they divide is equal to the speed of their destruction.
00:55:47Dryness, a ray of light, high temperature, humidity – all these phenomenon control
00:55:52the population of microbes.
00:55:54Under ideal conditions, the bacteria could take over the whole world.
00:55:59You make your way through a field of microorganisms.
00:56:02Large bacteria consume small ones.
00:56:05They multiply and are being destroyed.
00:56:07It's a boiling sea of life.
00:56:10You feel your foot is stuck.
00:56:12You stepped on something sticky.
00:56:14Right underneath, a large spherical bacterium crawls out of the ground.
00:56:19It's connected with other bacteria and hasn't gotten a certain form.
00:56:23It looks like formless pulsing biomass.
00:56:26The thing is clinging to your body, wrapping you.
00:56:29It feels like you're being absorbed by warm jelly.
00:56:33The bacterium compresses your chest.
00:56:35It's hard to breathe and move.
00:56:37At this moment, something that looks like a metal screw smashes into the bacterium.
00:56:42A large diamond bursts in next.
00:56:44After that, several thin smooth legs looking like curved needles get inside too.
00:56:50All these details unite and transform into a strange creature inside the microbe.
00:56:56A diamond is attached to one end of the screw, and the needle legs cling down.
00:57:01Several dozen of these break into the jelly's body.
00:57:04They connect together and form an army of robots.
00:57:07All these creatures break out from a small hole in the bacterium and tear the microbe to pieces.
00:57:13You escape and find yourself in chaos.
00:57:17The little robot with a diamond for a head is called a bacteriophage.
00:57:21Despite their appearance, they're created by nature, not artificially.
00:57:25The goal of bacteriophages is to attack and destroy bacteria from within.
00:57:31That's how they reproduce.
00:57:33These creatures are all around us everywhere and control the population of microorganisms.
00:57:39When bacteria multiply inside the human body, they leave waste products of decay.
00:57:44This waste is harmful to the body, so it has to fight.
00:57:48Sometimes doctors use bacteriophages, so they help to get rid of bad microbes.
00:57:54They don't attack anything but bacteria.
00:57:56And now you see hundreds of billions of bacteriophages destroying billions of bacteria.
00:58:03The walking diamonds jump on the bacterium, plunging their heads into it,
00:58:07and release the genetic code, separate parts that assemble in new bacteriophages.
00:58:13You continue on your way and take a few diamonds with you, just in case.
00:58:17The road is long, but after a few weeks, you finally manage to reach the puck.
00:58:23In the normal flow of time, it's been an hour.
00:58:26You're exhausted, and there's still a whipping to the top.
00:58:30The puck is so high that you can't see the top of it.
00:58:33You can't sleep because you might wake up inside some microbe.
00:58:38There are still a lot of bacteriophages around, but you don't want to take any chances.
00:58:43A deafening crash shakes the air.
00:58:46It's like an airplane turbine is running right next to your ear.
00:58:50You're looking up.
00:58:51A creature the size of a city lands on the carpet from the sky.
00:58:55It flaps its wings and makes this noise.
00:58:58The wings create a hurricane.
00:59:00You grab the fleece to keep yourself from being blown away.
00:59:04The creature smells bad.
00:59:06One of its legs resembles a large skyscraper.
00:59:09You realize it's a fly.
00:59:12Here's your chance to get to the puck.
00:59:14Big orange eyes divided into thousands of segments look like two planets.
00:59:19You climb on the tip of the fly's leg.
00:59:22The insect takes off, and you hold on tight.
00:59:25The carpet is moving further and further away.
00:59:28From up here, you can see the top of the puck.
00:59:31It's so wide that you can't see the round edge.
00:59:34You let go of the fly and fall.
00:59:37In the air, you run into millions of bacteria.
00:59:41Finally, you land on the solid puck surface.
00:59:44The device activates, and you return to your normal size.
00:59:48You are indeed one lucky bug.
00:59:53Ah, you're flying first class to Paris.
00:59:57Vacation, sightseeing, it's all good.
00:59:59Then the pilot comes on.
01:00:01Attention passengers, this is your captain speaking.
01:00:04The ground below us is jello.
01:00:06We cannot land.
01:00:08Everyone on the plane panics.
01:00:10Is there no wiggle room?
01:00:12Down there, apparently, it's all wiggle room.
01:00:15The seatbelt sign turns on, but no one seems to care.
01:00:18People topple over each other.
01:00:20The flight attendants try to calm everyone down,
01:00:23but they get pushed around and ignored.
01:00:25There's food flying everywhere.
01:00:27People are frantically dumping out their carry-ons to find who knows.
01:00:31You look out the window and see buildings falling down like dominoes.
01:00:35The roads begin to look like spaghetti, and the sea is being washed inland.
01:00:39The mountains out in the distance are also caving in,
01:00:42causing massive amounts of landslides.
01:00:45It really does look like jello.
01:00:47Your phone starts going crazy with breaking news alerts.
01:00:50This phenomenon is happening all over the world, but it's not a giant earthquake or anything.
01:00:55The Earth's crust has lost its strength and has become soft, birthday cake soft.
01:01:01The Earth has many layers stacked on top of each other.
01:01:04The inner core, the outer core, the mantle, and the crust.
01:01:08That's the top layer that we all walk around on.
01:01:12When the mantle moves a little too much, the crust starts to shift.
01:01:16That's sort of what an earthquake is.
01:01:19The crust has about 7 massive pieces and a bunch of smaller ones.
01:01:23Now they've all split up into millions of pieces.
01:01:26It's like the whole world's one giant waterbed.
01:01:30The Eiffel Tower, the pyramids of Egypt, the Great Wall of China,
01:01:34skyscrapers, bridges, you name it.
01:01:37They're all in trouble.
01:01:39Years later, you and the rest of humanity have adapted to the Earth's new wobbly surface.
01:01:45Your daily routine now consists of wearing special shoes
01:01:48to help you keep your balance wherever you go.
01:01:51Say goodbye to high heels and sneakers.
01:01:54These boots have a special gadget that glues you to the ground,
01:01:58kind of like a gecko scaling a wall.
01:02:01Sleeping in constant motion is the new normal,
01:02:04but it's not like sleeping on a waterbed.
01:02:06It's way worse.
01:02:08Imagine waking up in the middle of the night for a glass of milk
01:02:11and the ground's moving around like crazy.
01:02:14You'd fall down 20 times before making it to the kitchen.
01:02:18Going downstairs would be more of a sliding situation.
01:02:22Houses built with concrete don't exist anymore.
01:02:25You have a sort of giant bubble as your house now.
01:02:28With the help of special technology,
01:02:30the ground inside the bubble can be stabilized so it won't shake all the time.
01:02:35The foundation underneath your house sways with the wiggly crust
01:02:39so that it doesn't collapse.
01:02:41People rely heavily on drone technology to deliver food,
01:02:45supplies, or the latest cell phone.
01:02:47In fact, the whole sky is regularly filled with drones going from place to place.
01:02:53Sports gets totally revamped.
01:02:55Basketball players are now equipped with helmets and protective body gear
01:02:59so they don't hurt themselves when they fall, which is a lot.
01:03:03You try dribbling on a soft surface.
01:03:05It's borderline impossible.
01:03:07One sport that survives is ice hockey.
01:03:10Actually, all ice sports.
01:03:12Speed skating, figure skating.
01:03:14As long as the ice is thick enough, it doesn't matter what's going on underneath.
01:03:19Pretty much everyone relies on these bubbles to do anything or get anywhere.
01:03:24Think of it like a giant hamster ball floating on a shallow lake.
01:03:28Humans have adapted and don't get motion sickness anymore.
01:03:32The new economy is still built on trade and transportation.
01:03:36But now, it's mainly done with ships.
01:03:38No more big trucks on the road.
01:03:40No more road.
01:03:41Helicopters are super popular, but landing them can be kinda hairy.
01:03:46All around the world, cities are floating and drifting around.
01:03:50That used to take millions of years.
01:03:52Now, it just takes a few.
01:03:54Imagine living in Melbourne, Australia,
01:03:56but your city's only a few months from reaching South America.
01:04:00It's like a giant cruise ship.
01:04:02All over the planet, millions of animals used to migrate huge distances
01:04:07to find water during the dry season.
01:04:09That's all over.
01:04:11Marine life and our flying friends have been relatively unaffected.
01:04:15Since the ground's always moving,
01:04:17it's impossible for huge herds of animals to stick together
01:04:21when they make their way across land.
01:04:23They're trying to adapt, but it's tough.
01:04:26Mountain goats evolved to be in the mountains.
01:04:28Now the whole world's just one flat soft mess.
01:04:32After putting on your boots, you make your way to visit some friends down at the park.
01:04:37All inside a large bubble, of course.
01:04:41When the ground collapsed all those years ago,
01:04:43many factories went haywire and released a bunch of chemicals into the atmosphere.
01:04:48Yeah, I think I want to stay in my bubble.
01:04:51You get into your little hamster ball of a car and drive off.
01:04:55The ground is bumpy and gooey at the same time, but you make it eventually.
01:05:00Have you ever tried eating or drinking on a rocking ship?
01:05:03Sailors got used to it ages ago,
01:05:05but for most of us, it'd be a nightmare.
01:05:08But nowadays, everyone's a pro, handling hot soup without spilling a drop.
01:05:14After lunch, your friends decide to go out and explore the lands outside the giant bubble.
01:05:20At first, you refuse.
01:05:21But somehow, you find yourself strapped into your personal bubble car, heading for the exit.
01:05:27You sneak past security, find a place to hide the cars, and get out.
01:05:32You and your friends look ridiculous in those specialized boots and gas masks.
01:05:37Still, you wouldn't want to inhale all those toxic fumes.
01:05:41You make your way to where a large major city once stood.
01:05:45It looks like a scene from a sci-fi movie.
01:05:48Buildings piled on top of each other, with nature growing all around.
01:05:52The roads that once existed have split into their original ingredients.
01:05:57You're essentially walking on broken bricks, concrete, and asphalt.
01:06:01Statues are half-buried in the ground.
01:06:04Way out in front of you is an old abandoned airport.
01:06:08You have to watch your every step.
01:06:10The ground ripples under your feet.
01:06:12No one's been here for years.
01:06:14As you make your way to the core of the city,
01:06:16huge blocks of concrete break off a falling building.
01:06:20You try your best to jump out of the way, but the ground's so shaky, you barely make it.
01:06:26You and your friends finally find your way to the downtown area.
01:06:30That's when you notice a lot of water around.
01:06:32When the buildings collapsed, it destroyed all the water and drainage systems.
01:06:37All the water for homes, businesses, factories, and hundreds of nearby farms all ended up here.
01:06:44You and your friends scale a building with your gecko boots and reach the top.
01:06:48It looks like the lost city of Atlantis.
01:06:51The buildings look like ancient ruins from a forgotten civilization.
01:06:55One of your friends is getting nervous.
01:06:57Maybe it's time to go back to the bubble city.
01:07:00But you think it's better to just keep moving forward.
01:07:04You find a piece of driftwood and make a sort of improvised boat.
01:07:08You all hop on board and paddle through the city.
01:07:11Under the surface is a whole new ecosystem of underwater plants and animals.
01:07:16And not too far ahead, you spot a shipwreck that's half-submerged.
01:07:21One of your friends gets the idea of heading over there to explore it.
01:07:26The moment you step onto it, the water starts shaking.
01:07:29The ground under the ship is so fragile that any tiny change in pressure makes the ship sink deeper.
01:07:36You hop back on the boat and start to paddle back where you came.
01:07:40But the land under the water is extremely shaky,
01:07:43and the collapsed buildings begin to move around.
01:07:46It's like kayaking down a wild river, except it's also raining concrete.
01:07:52Once you make it back to the bubble cars,
01:07:54you and your friends decide it's time to head back to the giant bubble.
01:07:58But as you start to move, you notice that everything looks completely different.
01:08:03The ground's shifted so much, you're lost.
01:08:06Everything around you looks the same, like you're stuck in a giant maze.
01:08:11You drive around for ages.
01:08:13Is the giant bubble anywhere close?
01:08:16Impossible to tell.
01:08:18Out of nowhere, you hear a loud rumbling noise above you.
01:08:22You look up and see a helicopter soaring through the air.
01:08:25It drops down a rope ladder, and everyone climbs on.
01:08:29You were lucky this time.
01:08:33If Einstein was born in the 1500s, his hair would definitely be slicker and
01:08:38probably parted in the middle.
01:08:40We'd seen him with a puffy chest and a neutral expression,
01:08:43and most importantly, he would wear these funny aristocratic shoes with delicate lace.
01:08:49Here's a crazy thought.
01:08:50Let's say Beethoven was an adult in the early 2000s.
01:08:54I'm thinking he would look like a member of the Backstreet Boys or NSYNC.
01:08:58Definitely no crazy hair since he would be rocking a buzz cut.
01:09:02Honestly, I think I love this version of him.
01:09:04Now, if The Scream by Edward Munch was an early Renaissance painting, this is what we would see.
01:09:11A man in a laced-up long-sleeved vest with a pouch on his belt.
01:09:15To carry water and essentials, of course.
01:09:18Picture an old Bilbo Baggins, if you will.
01:09:21And what if Selena Gomez had been born in the 1920s?
01:09:25I'm thinking she'd be pictured wearing a beautiful polka-dot dress
01:09:29with a short hairdo and a cloche hat.
01:09:32Would Brad Pitt also be considered one of the most beautiful men alive back in Ancient Egypt?
01:09:38I'd say absolutely.
01:09:39These pastel tunics are a great fit for him.
01:09:42Oh, and we saw him in Troy.
01:09:44He sure can sport sandals.
01:09:46Oh, and who's that?
01:09:48Ah, it's Spider-Man.
01:09:49But all the way back in the Victorian era.
01:09:52He still has his red mask, but even superheroes had to be formal.
01:09:56That's why he's wearing a vest with precious-looking gold buttons.
01:10:00And not to mention, this Spider-Man has a cape.
01:10:03Those long tailored capes men used to wear.
01:10:07And that's Doctor Strange.
01:10:09I have to say, he seems to fit perfectly into the Victorian period.
01:10:13He's a little bit fancier here.
01:10:15His cape got an upgrade, and it's embroidered with golden threads and some brooches.
01:10:20Jump to the future.
01:10:21AI generated what celebrities would look like in 40 years from now.
01:10:25So, this is Harry Styles.
01:10:27I'd say a mixture of an aged Jim Carrey with Daniel Craig maybe.
01:10:32And what about Billie Eilish?
01:10:33With natural gray hair, she looks like Tilda Swetton in Narnia.
01:10:38Gorgeous, if you ask me.
01:11:08Deep inside our planet, like the distance between New York and Philadelphia deep,
01:11:14the underground heat from the core melts rocks the same way the sun melts ice cream.
01:11:19When these rocks melt, their temperatures can reach around 2200 degrees Fahrenheit.
01:11:25But don't worry, that only happens really deep under the ground,
01:11:29and only in some specific areas, mostly around the Atlantic Ocean.
01:11:34And it only pops out of the ground when there's so much pressure
01:11:37that it flows up to the surface as a gooey orange super hot liquid called lava
01:11:43that usually erupts through a volcano's neck.
01:11:46But somehow, the entire ocean is made of lava now.
01:11:50And although from a really far away distance, it looks pretty cool to look at,
01:11:55it's really dangerous.
01:11:58First of all, say goodbye to the beautiful blue waves and the ocean currents.
01:12:02Unlike water, lava is thicker, closer to creamy peanut butter in texture,
01:12:07so the wind can't move it around like it used to.
01:12:11But that also means that nothing can sink or swim in it.
01:12:15So even if some ocean creatures could withstand the super high temperatures of lava,
01:12:20they won't be able to live inside of it.
01:12:22They'll either be submerged or float on the surface instead, depending on their density.
01:12:28So all our marine friends and other creatures that used to call the ocean home
01:12:33will need to find another body of water to live in if they want to survive.
01:12:37Actually, the only animals on this planet that could possibly survive the heat of lava
01:12:42would be the tardigrades.
01:12:44These cute microscopic creatures can survive in any extreme environment on this planet,
01:12:50from frozen icy glaciers to hot and fiery volcanoes.
01:12:54They can even survive in outer space under the cosmic rays.
01:12:59You run away from the beach along with everyone else nearby.
01:13:03The atmosphere is getting thicker and it's not easy to see around you.
01:13:07You think to yourself, I should have stayed home.
01:13:10But home isn't exactly safe either.
01:13:13The heat radiating from all the lava alone would be intolerable for miles.
01:13:19So no more houses by the sea and beach resorts.
01:13:22You're going to want to make sure you live as far away from the ocean as possible.
01:13:28Most of the coastal cities would become instantly uninhabitable,
01:13:32especially areas touching the ocean with more than one side.
01:13:36Places like Florida, California, and Central America would become mostly unbearable to live in.
01:13:42And that's not to mention island life.
01:13:45Most islands would be so hot that no animal or plant could survive.
01:13:5097% of the planet was made up of ocean water and it now all turned to lava.
01:13:57No place on Earth can hold snow anymore as the planet would look like a glowing orange lava ball.
01:14:03Temperatures would rise so much that the furthest place from the shores
01:14:07and even the highest peaks will still feel like the hottest day in a desert.
01:14:12As you keep running away from the ocean, you realize that maybe you're dreaming.
01:14:16But you look at your skin and see so much redness.
01:14:19Even if you run for miles, the heat will still catch up to you.
01:14:24All the offshore oil rigs and ships in the middle of the oceans will face plenty of problems too.
01:14:30Their metallic composition would simply glow red and melt instantly when in contact with hot lava.
01:14:37And even if it doesn't melt, you better hope nobody happens to be on it.
01:14:41But in any event like that, they would have evacuated everyone.
01:14:46Meanwhile, at the North and South Poles, where the planet is at its coldest,
01:14:51all the ice that was covering the ocean is instantly melting in contact with the lava.
01:14:56It would then cool down and solidify into rocky black landmasses
01:15:00called igneous rocks that are often glassy in texture.
01:15:05The moment the hot lava cools down, huge clouds of acidic steam and gases
01:15:10get released into the air, covering the sky.
01:15:13Scientists call those lays, which is a combination of the words lava and haze.
01:15:20Kind of like when you exit the shower and all the heat comes in contact with the cold outside air,
01:15:25creating a haze.
01:15:26Except this one would cover the whole North and South Poles, and it would be super toxic.
01:15:32It sometimes even contains tiny glass particles that are extremely hazardous.
01:15:37And this laze can travel around the world with strong enough winds to cover it.
01:15:43And cover almost the entire Northern Hemisphere.
01:15:46It could also cover the southern part of New Zealand, Argentina, South Africa, and Australia.
01:15:53Flying an airplane through this gas wouldn't be the best idea.
01:15:57The heat alone emitted from the lava would be enough to cause major damage to the exterior
01:16:03and affect the airplane's hardware.
01:16:06It's a good thing you found your trusty oxygen container.
01:16:10The air is barely breathable at this point.
01:16:12You make your way to your car and drive away as fast as you can.
01:16:16But even your car's taken some damage.
01:16:19You drive out to the countryside, where the atmosphere hasn't been affected by the lava yet.
01:16:24But even all the way out here, the temperature is changing.
01:16:28The river you used to see on your weekly hikes is drying up.
01:16:32The plants around you are losing their green lush.
01:16:36The animals around have migrated to a different place.
01:16:40Rivers flowing into the ocean would simply create mounds of glassy igneous rocks upon contact,
01:16:46permanently creating natural dams.
01:16:49The rest of the water inland, like in ponds and lakes, would eventually evaporate over time.
01:16:55With the rise in temperatures and no rainfall,
01:16:58it would be the end of water on the planet as we know it.
01:17:02The huge mass of ocean water plays a major role in creating clouds and rainfall.
01:17:08Without water in the atmosphere, the sun's heat would add to the lavas.
01:17:13The world would be a huge barren wasteland.
01:17:16The nights would be hot and the days even hotter.
01:17:22Hop on the Bright Side of life together with our brand new tees, hoodies and more.
01:17:26Click the link to pick your choice.
01:17:28Still, lava cools down eventually in contact with the cool air.
01:17:32So soon enough, the surface would start forming a thin layer of black crust
01:17:37that would gradually thicken over the years.
01:17:40The thicker the lava, the longer it takes to completely cool down on the inside.
01:17:45It would still be super hot though,
01:17:47but at least if you touch it, you won't be directly touching the burning lava.
01:17:52That's actually how many islands were formed.
01:17:55Like the Hawaiian Islands, for example.
01:17:58They're fully formed by lava erupting from below the ocean
01:18:01that dried over hundreds of thousands of years.
01:18:04It accumulated layers over layers of solidified lava from below the ocean
01:18:10until it rose above the surface, forming islands and even mountains.
01:18:14As we speak, a new landmass in Hawaii is being formed by an active volcano.
01:18:21Scientists expect it to be a new fully formed island in about 10,000 years.
01:18:26So now, the view that used to be the blue ocean
01:18:29turned into steamy glowing orange slime
01:18:32that will in turn quickly transform into a solid black wasteland.
01:18:37But don't think you can easily walk over that ocean.
01:18:40It could take hundreds of years for it to fully cool down and turn into solid rock.
01:18:46Until then, walking on that dried lava crust
01:18:49would be similar to walking on a frozen lake.
01:18:51Except that in this case,
01:18:54one misstep would cause you to fall into boiling hot lava
01:18:58instead of ice cold water.
01:19:00Some regions would even take thousands of years to fully solidify.
01:19:04The Mariana Trench, the deepest region of the ocean,
01:19:08is about a whopping 43,000 feet deep.
01:19:11It would actually take at least 5,000 years
01:19:13for that much lava to completely cool down.
01:19:17There are many planets out there that are so-called lava planets.
01:19:21A recently discovered planet, K2-141b,
01:19:25has magma oceans, supersonic winds up to 3,000 miles per hour,
01:19:30and even rocky rains.
01:19:32That's right, the planet is so hot that it vaporizes rocks and rains them back down.
01:19:39Keep in mind that this planet is much closer to the sun than our planet is.
01:19:44Maybe their oceans once turned into lava overnight.
01:19:48You are waiting for your garlic bread in the oven.
01:19:51While looking up at the stars through your kitchen window,
01:19:54you ask yourself,
01:19:55could you send garlic bread to space?
01:19:58And more importantly, could you still eat it if it came back?
01:20:01Some mighty important questions.
01:20:04Usually, when it comes to garlic bread,
01:20:06there are only two things people care about.
01:20:08Do we want cheese on it?
01:20:10And, oh yeah, eating it.
01:20:12That mouth-watering garlicky taste
01:20:14combined with the soft, warm bread
01:20:16Okay, focus.
01:20:18How are we going to send the bread to space?
01:20:20Given that NASA's first space shuttle cost roughly $49 billion,
01:20:25I don't think they'll allow us to borrow a rocket ship for the day
01:20:29since they may have, you know, more important things to do.
01:20:32I know, it's hard to believe that some people don't take garlic bread
01:20:35as seriously as the rest of us.
01:20:37Don't worry though, all we need is a balloon.
01:20:40Not the kind of balloon we're used to being around at things like parties,
01:20:44where you're surrounded by pizza, burgers and bread buns,
01:20:48hot dogs and bread buns, and cake.
01:20:50I think bread might have too strong of a hold on me.
01:20:52Anyway, the kind of balloon we need is a weather balloon.
01:20:57A weather balloon is explicitly designed to reach high altitudes of up to 24 miles.
01:21:02It carries instruments beyond our atmosphere
01:21:05to send information on temperature, humidity, wind speed,
01:21:08and atmospheric pressure back to us.
01:21:10A French meteorologist, this guy, first started experimenting with them in 1896,
01:21:16and his work led to the discovery of the stratosphere.
01:21:19Hmm, I wonder if he'd been proud of these balloons now operating
01:21:22as an extraterrestrial taxi service for our garlic bread.
01:21:26Maybe not, but I'm sure he'd be delighted knowing that hundreds of people worldwide
01:21:32today release these balloons for their own experiments every 12 hours.
01:21:36Most standard organizations believe that space officially starts
01:21:40at the completely arbitrated Kármán line, over 62 miles above us.
01:21:45Sending the bread into orbit would require a speed of tens of thousands of miles an hour.
01:21:50Without our rocket ship, which conventionally travels at a speed of 17,000 miles per hour,
01:21:56we won't be able to get the bread that high or to travel at that speed.
01:22:00Okay, no, you can still keep the rocket.
01:22:03I'm happy with my amazing weather balloon, which, by the way, will still get us a third
01:22:08of the way to space, bringing us to the area known as the edge of space.
01:22:14Given that the atmosphere up there is so thin, about 1% of the pressure at ground level,
01:22:19it's really not that bad of a substitute for actual space for this test.
01:22:24I was never comfortable with being over 62 miles away from my dinner anyway,
01:22:28so this works much better for my food abandonment issues.
01:22:35Ah, my ears! I can already hear you at your computer screaming,
01:22:39what is this guy talking about? I've seen videos of things like
01:22:43pizza being sent to actual space before using a similar method.
01:22:47Why should we settle for the edge of space?
01:22:50Many cameras operating in those videos to document the object's journey use a fisheye lens.
01:22:56This lens exaggerates the Earth's curve compared to what it looks like at those heights,
01:23:01giving off the illusion that the camera's closer to space than it is.
01:23:06Glad we settled that. Unlike if I were to ask you which is better,
01:23:10pizza or garlic bread. Moving swiftly along, thank you.
01:23:14Now that we've got our weather balloon to which we've reluctantly attached our garlic bread,
01:23:19the moment for take-off has arrived. We launch the garlic bread to the sky
01:23:24and wipe the tears from our cheeks as we watch it disappear beyond the clouds.
01:23:29In comparison to a rocket, the pace of our balloon may as well be that of a tortoise,
01:23:34and it will travel at a speed of over 1,000 feet per minute.
01:23:38So, a good way to distract ourselves from the sadness of our bread's departure
01:23:43is by asking ourselves what the garlic bread's in store for during its journey.
01:23:48Well, in 2 hours, our weather balloon can rise above the clouds higher than the paths of jet
01:23:54planes, passing through the ozone layer in the stratosphere and reaching altitudes of 22 miles
01:24:00or higher. The balloon will endure temperatures as cold as minus 90 degrees centigrade, meaning
01:24:06we'd better have a microwave on hand should it make its way back to us. The balloon will expand
01:24:11as it ascends, from 6.5 feet up to 26 feet, because air pressure decreases as the balloon
01:24:18climbs higher in the atmosphere. What happens next would be a truly satisfying experience,
01:24:23with my food not being put at risk as a result. Our weather balloon pops. And just like that,
01:24:30our garlic bread will begin the descent from the skies. Wind conditions dictate how far from the
01:24:35launch site the bread will land, but we can expect it to turn up no more than 75 miles away.
01:24:42As is the case for experiments with weather balloons, a parachute is attached to the cargo,
01:24:47which will help ensure the bread's safe return and a reunion with its best friend – my stomach.
01:24:53Some say it's a one-sided friendship. Even though it's this stomach of mine that's currently making
01:24:58animal noises from starvation, it's actual animals who now pose a threat as potential
01:25:04predators of snatching our dinner. Engineers have designed packaging for exercises like this,
01:25:10equipped with GPS and a servo. This packaging will close shut approximately 3,280 feet above
01:25:17the ground. It will protect the garlic bread from unwanted landing spots and the various jaws of the
01:25:23animal kingdom, dramatically increasing the likelihood of being able to eat the garlic bread
01:25:28if we can relocate it. In all actuality, weather balloons used for experiments like this
01:25:34are doing more damage to wildlife and nature than vice versa. Marine animals like turtles often
01:25:40mistake the remains of weather balloons in the water for jellyfish and eat them, thinking that
01:25:45they've just got themselves an easy meal. This is damaging for these animals, given the components
01:25:50of these weather balloons contain rubber and battery acid. Arguments have been put forth that
01:25:55weather balloon testing is ultimately another form of littering. If this video inspires you to
01:26:01try and send some food to space using balloons, keep this in mind. So, the hunt is now on,
01:26:08not for any wild animals, but ourselves. What's that saying though? Fail to prepare. Prepare to
01:26:14go without that fantastic piece of garlic bread that you've just launched into the edge of space,
01:26:19which you're now on your way to reclaim? Or is it just preparing to fail? It doesn't matter.
01:26:25As suggested by the parachute and protective packaging, we're doing neither. To ensure we
01:26:30could find the bread once it landed, we attach radio trackers to the balloon before launching
01:26:35it. These send a signal with a GPS position to the ground, which is then put on a map for us to chase,
01:26:42giving us a good idea of where the garlic bread will be found. Man, I love technology! And just
01:26:48like that, the moment has arrived. We've found our garlic bread intact, and after some moments
01:26:55of passionate hugging and loving strokes, I'm ready to take a bite. So, was the wait worth it?
01:27:01How's it taste? And can you eat it? Yes, you can. But the taste? Not that great, actually. And
01:27:09despite mentioning it earlier, I forgot to bring my microwave. The bread's been frozen from the
01:27:14frightening temperatures experienced on its journey. And I actually mean frozen. The bread
01:27:19itself has an icy middle. But before we can even discover this, we'll notice that when we go to rip
01:27:26a piece of the bread off, it doesn't tear as normal. Instead, it snaps off, as if we've just
01:27:32broken a piece off a twig. We can even hear the clicking noise. My warm, soft bread is no more.
01:27:39You'd be better off keeping this for dessert in the event you run out of frozen ice cream.
01:27:44On second thought, let's just throw it in the trash. Nonetheless, it's pretty cool that we
01:27:49were able to send this garlic bread to the edge of space and still end up eating it, right?
01:27:55Before I pass out from starvation, I'm going to the store to buy some more,
01:27:59which I definitely won't be sending to space. Why don't you let us know in the comments if
01:28:04there's any food you'd like to send to space for seasoning before eating?
01:28:09Okay, what if pressing only one key could change your life forever and make it much easier?
01:28:15Well, if we were in Minecraft, everything would be possible. Too hard to live? Too many tasks,
01:28:21deadline, school classes are tedious, and you just can't go on like this?
01:28:25Change your life mode to somewhat less challenging. Just press escape. Adjust your
01:28:30life difficulty choosing peaceful, easy, normal, or even hard for those who like it tough. If your
01:28:36teacher is as hostile as a green and white pixelated creeper, choose peaceful mode. Monsters
01:28:42don't spawn there. Or just get yourself a cat. Creepers are terrified when they see them. Even
01:28:48if your pet looks a bit boxish. One more cool piece of news, if your life is in peaceful mode
01:28:53now, you don't even need to eat, which could save you a ton of money. As for appearances,
01:28:59no more worries about pimples. Now that you're pixelated, nobody's ever gonna notice them.
01:29:04You look the same every day. Your haircut, even if you hate it and can't wait for your hair to grow,
01:29:09never changes. Unless you change the skins. You can't grow or lose some pounds. Your body
01:29:15proportions are much different too. In our world, the head-to-body ratio is about 1 to 7.
01:29:21And in Minecraft, it's more as if everyone had a baby body with a huge head and smaller torso.
01:29:27You wouldn't have fingers. So, if you had Minecraft body in real life, you wouldn't be
01:29:32good at fine motor skills. Um, I guess no Minecraft surgery, huh? No matter what kind of biome you live
01:29:39in, you don't need some super cold-resistant clothes or nice shoes. Life without changes
01:29:45means that you don't age the way we normally do. No more birthdays anymore. The cake you find in
01:29:51the game is not for candles or making wishes. It can only help you if you're starving.
01:29:57A day-night cycle is somewhat different now, with 100 Minecraft days equaling 33 standard hours.
01:30:03So, life expectancy should change too. The average lifespan in the USA is 78 years,
01:30:10or about 683,000 hours. So, the average lifespan, according to Minecraft, would jump up to 5,700
01:30:19years. Eh? And you can also respawn. Ready to live forever? Food isn't that different from
01:30:25what we have in real life, even in terms of calories. A whole cake will replenish your
01:30:31energy so much more than a plain beetroot. Mmm, carbs! There would be some exceptions too.
01:30:37A golden apple gives extra health in Minecraft. So, sad golden delicious from Walmart are only
01:30:43delicious in real life. You can starve in Minecraft in two game days, though it takes
01:30:49a bit longer in real life. Yeah, going with no food is a real challenge, but a human actually
01:30:54can do that. Water, on the other hand, is pretty essential in our world but doesn't do much to
01:31:00Minecraft people when they drink it. Today's agriculture uses some fertilizers to speed up
01:31:06plant growing. But if we had that bone meal Minecraft people feed their plants with,
01:31:11we'd have an abundance of any fruit or vegetables. Life would be quite boring, though. You wake up
01:31:16today and you mine. You wake up the next day, you craft. The retail industry could never compete
01:31:23with skillful people, who actually don't need it, being able to create various objects from scratch.
01:31:29Anyway, you don't need that much. You can do almost anything with a mere pickaxe,
01:31:34upgrading it to a diamond one. All those hardware stores full of handy items would go bust in a
01:31:40real world with a pickaxe replacing everything else. It'd also have to be a bit more hard-working,
01:31:46though. If you want to have a nap, there's no way you can do that in the Minecraft world.
01:31:51Here, you only sleep at night or if there's bad weather outside. Sleep is essential not
01:31:57to be caught by monsters that appear as soon as the night falls. And you gotta be sure there are
01:32:02no monsters nearby before you go to bed anyway. You can only sleep in your bed, though. Even if
01:32:08you want to spread on a nice meadow in the shadow, you won't just fall asleep. Same with school
01:32:13classes. No matter how boring they are, it's just impossible to doze off. If you're used to watching
01:32:20pop science TV shows, well, that's something that would probably be almost unchanged.
01:32:25Discovery Channel would show not only various biomes and square animals, but other worlds too,
01:32:31like the Nether and the Overworld. Anyway, you wouldn't spend that much time indoors.
01:32:36Most activities in Minecraft are performed outdoors, so you'd have to go outside really
01:32:41often. Traveling is fun in Minecraft World. Want to visit the Nether? No, not the Netherlands.
01:32:48It's a trip to the Underworld. No need to buy tickets, go through customs, spend hours in a
01:32:53tiny airplane seat. You only want some lava and a bit of water. Pour one over the other,
01:32:59and you get obsidian. As soon as you create at least 8 blocks of the stuff, build a portal with
01:33:05them, set it on fire, and voila! Welcome to the Nether! If you travel a lot, you can casually
01:33:12grab your bed with you and assemble it wherever you want. Nice move to avoid pricey hotels,
01:33:18which are missing in the Nether anyway. It's not just a fun trip, though. There are a bunch
01:33:23of ingredients you may need for potions. No fancy souvenirs either. Rather, some useful stuff you
01:33:29mine from exotic Nether blocks. Despite their moniker, locals called Zombie Pigmen are quite
01:33:35friendly and never attack unless it's you who started a fight. Lava can help you to travel,
01:33:41be a kind of trash bin, and keep intruders away. In Minecraft world, you can be sure unexpected
01:33:47guests won't bother you. They'll just fall into boiling lava, end of story. You can also install
01:33:53a tripwire hook just behind your front door to activate piston-based traps for unwanted visitors.
01:34:00Once your guest triggers the tripwire, the pistons will remove the flooring and send the visitor
01:34:05into the void. If you're going to the seaside, take your front door with you. It'll help you
01:34:10explore the ocean deep. If you fall into water, all you need to breathe freely is place a door
01:34:16above you. Nobody could ever hold their breath for more than 24 minutes in our real life,
01:34:21but in Minecraft, you can stay underwater almost forever, or just as long as you want.
01:34:27Transportation system is much cooler now. You can still use all the means of transport you're used
01:34:32to, but having a ride in a cart can be both fun and fast. Just build the rails wherever you want
01:34:39and forget about traffic jams. Physics are another big change.
01:34:43They give you lots of superpowers not accessible in the real world. You can jump higher,
01:34:48climb any mountain easier, and run faster as if the whole gravity stuff was a joke to you.
01:34:53You can make a vertical row of blocks, and even if you smash the lowest block,
01:34:58the one above it will hang in the air. It doesn't mean you can't fall down from a height. You can,
01:35:03but it's safe if you just spill some water from a bucket right before the impact.
01:35:08Not only can you perform all that, but you can also easily chop a massive trunk in just a few
01:35:13moves. No tools necessary, by the way, just your bare hands. And not even a scratch left on them
01:35:20afterwards. You don't feel pain in this world. Don't worry, the top branches of the tree you
01:35:25just fell won't hurt you either, since they'll be hung in the air. Deforestation in Minecraft
01:35:31looks insane. Can you imagine a forest made up of floating trees? No squirrel could ever
01:35:37climb any trunk in such a forest. Walking around here, you're likely to come across wild animals,
01:35:43such as bears and wolves. You can domesticate wolves and almost convert them into dogs,
01:35:49and bears are not that dangerous for you. Just trap them inside a fence.
01:35:53It looks flimsy, but it's Minecraft World, so it's absolutely safe.
01:36:12You've finally done it! You've created a simulator that allows you to copy yourself
01:36:16into the apps on your phone to learn faster. You plug your phone in, open Google, and put
01:36:22on a helmet with goggles to get a 360-degree view. After hooking them up, you call your sister to
01:36:28activate the machine. She's not answering you, so you head to her bedroom where you see her doing a
01:36:36TikTok dance challenge. You tease her for it and pester her to activate the machine downstairs.
01:36:42She follows you while still using TikTok. She gets upset and, without you looking,
01:36:47changes the homepage on your phone to TikTok. She then activates the machine.
01:36:54You're in the simulation, but something's wrong. You're going through a virtual wormhole.
01:36:59You see all kinds of apps circling you until you land flat on your face on a dark surface.
01:37:07You're scared. Your heart is thumping. You look around and see yourself in a room with a screen
01:37:13in front of you. It asks for your username. You shout all kinds of words asking to let you out,
01:37:19but a red light blinks every time you do so. Every word you say is picked up by the screen,
01:37:25which then displays it as your username while asking you to accept it to proceed.
01:37:30You say accept and the wall opens. Your username is LetMeOut.
01:37:36You exit and enter a futuristic city glittered with purple and blue lights and tall towers with
01:37:44screens showing TikTok videos non-stop. The tallest tower shows the most trending videos today.
01:37:51We'd like to continue helping you learn and giving you useful skill improvement tips.
01:37:55Got a thirst for knowledge? We've prepared four masterclasses on creating a 2D character
01:38:00animation from scratch, 10 hours of video lessons, practical tasks using professional
01:38:06software, and additional materials that you can use with your own projects.
01:38:11While the other towers show other popular videos, you follow the road in front of you.
01:38:16It leads you into a crowd in the middle of a virtual Times Square. Everyone has a floating
01:38:21bubble above them with their username and bio written there. It also shows how many followers
01:38:26they have. Most of these people have just a handful of followers. They look like their
01:38:31profile pictures. Everyone is staring at you since you're the only one who looks not like an avatar,
01:38:38but like a real human. You see two people standing opposite each other without moving.
01:38:45You see the bubbles above each of them change. They are now following each other. Suddenly,
01:38:51everyone stops and stares at the girl as she becomes verified. A blue tick appears in her
01:38:57bubble and she vanishes. You run up to the one who has just followed her and try to get some
01:39:02information. You're the only one talking out loud while everyone else is communicating through
01:39:08direct messages in their inboxes. You realize that you have to stand still and wait for someone to
01:39:14accept your DM. The person you're talking to receives your message and blocks it. You try
01:39:20to initiate another dialogue, but the person freezes and then walks away. You realize some
01:39:27people are looking at you in a peculiar way. They start following you. They're everywhere.
01:39:33You start walking fast and disappear into a sea of people where they can't find you.
01:39:39After a while, you dip into an alley and find an underground cafe. You enter and see a bunch of
01:39:46people sitting around doing nothing. You try to talk to some of them, but they don't answer.
01:39:51Even weirder, they don't have faces. None of them have followers. They don't respond to anything.
01:39:58And if you try to communicate with them, they just spaz out some advertisements.
01:40:04You look at the screen in the room. It shows your face. TikTok is after you. You hear a
01:40:10knock on the door and dozens of people rush in. They're the internal security of TikTok and
01:40:16they're after you. You exit through another room. Now you're inside a building where many of these
01:40:22bots are living. They're behind you and getting closer. You reach a dead end with a window in
01:40:28front of you. You turn around and see the security running straight at you. You have no choice but to
01:40:36jump out of the window. You get a running start and sprint through the glass. You land on the roof
01:40:42of a neighboring building. Every tower is now displaying your username and profile pic as
01:40:47wanted. You have no idea why they're after you. You make your way to another alley and hide in a
01:40:55dark corner. It seems you've lost them. You check your settings to see why you're the most wanted
01:41:00man on TikTok. It shows that you're an invalid user. The app thinks you're a glitch that's going
01:41:07to destroy the very fabric of TikTok. You know for a fact that it's just the cyber security of TikTok
01:41:15working to catch any bugs or attacks. You open your settings but you can't do anything since they
01:41:20blocked you. You open search and type in your sister's name. It turns out she's verified with a
01:41:27blue tick which will be difficult to track. You head back out and try to search for her. You hear
01:41:33some people walking around and quickly leave the alleyway. You get back to the crowd. You can't act
01:41:39hysterically anymore or you'll draw attention to yourself. You reach hashtag avenue where all the
01:41:46trending videos are. So far no one has noticed you. The most popular hashtags are at the top.
01:41:52It's quite a walk to get there. You browse through most of them but can't find your sister.
01:41:58Then you remember that she was dancing. So you check the hashtag dance and try to locate her.
01:42:04You find out that the video she was doing earlier is one of the most popular videos.
01:42:09You finally find her but the security stops you and chases you along hashtag avenue.
01:42:15You randomly appear in various trending videos. You reach a dead end and the security catches you.
01:42:22They escort you to a room where they try to get information out of you. They think you're a bot
01:42:27but you keep telling them that you invented the machine to copy yourself into TikTok virtually.
01:42:33They're not buying it. Eventually they try to extract you but it's not working. They try to
01:42:39figure out what to do but they don't let you leave. While they're transporting you to another
01:42:44facility you manage to slip out of their sight and sneak off to search for your sister. This time
01:42:50you have to be on high alert. TikTok is searching for you. Users have seen you in hashtags so
01:42:57they're also on the lookout. Out of nowhere large cameras pop out. They're trying to spot you.
01:43:04Any slip up and you could be stuck in TikTok for good. You make one last attempt to get to your
01:43:11sister. You find a hat and a jacket to disguise yourself. Now it's impossible for you to interact
01:43:17with anyone since they can detect your activity but you have to take this chance for her to get
01:43:22you out. Eventually you go back to hashtag avenue and head to your sister. You find some of the most
01:43:30popular TikTokers chilling together. Your sister is among them. There's a lot of security so you
01:43:36keep it low. After a while you slowly approach her and take her aside. You activate the chat option
01:43:42and ask her to head downstairs to the basement and unplug you from the system.
01:43:49But before you can finish the last few words the security guards rush over to you and start
01:43:54chasing you. But this time all cameras are on you and there's no place to go. You surrender yourself
01:44:01to the security and they take you to a locked room you can't escape from. You sit there worried.
01:44:07You're bouncing your knees and rubbing your palms together. You have no idea if your sister has
01:44:12received the full message or not. Hours pass and no word from outside. You may have blown it but
01:44:20suddenly you get a notification from your sister. You try to type but nothing is working. You start
01:44:26feeling funny. Everything around is shaking. The walls start glitching and you see the real world.
01:44:34You get pulled into a wormhole and you wake up in your lab. You're breathing heavily trying to piece
01:44:41the recent events together. You feel like you've been in TikTok for half a day but apparently it
01:44:47was less than half an hour. Your vision is clear and the first thing you see is your sister filming
01:44:53you with her phone. She's grinning from ear to ear not knowing what you've actually gone through.
01:45:00Ah, the stage is set. You're in the spotlight and everyone is looking at you. The piano's glossy
01:45:06texture shines brightly in the light. You lay your fingers on the keys and start playing. Since you
01:45:12have 20 fingers on each hand you can hit multiple notes and make the sound richer. Each piano chord
01:45:19can have extra octaves and additional notes now with 40 fingers on the piano. After you finish,
01:45:25everyone stands up and claps for you. The sound of clapping is so loud since the palms are huge
01:45:31to fit 20 fingers on each hand. Now you're in a boat in the middle of a lake ready to go for a
01:45:36swim. Your friend pushes you in and races you to the shore. Since you both have 20 fingers and toes
01:45:43on each limb, it's easy to swim and paddle. They act like natural rudders. You beat them and make
01:45:49it to shore. After that you swim back to the boat paddling with your hands and feet. After swimming
01:45:56you go for a hike and notice a nice wall to scale. You get your gear ready and place each large palm
01:46:02on a nice fitting rock. Your grip is tight and you hang on to many different rocks that aren't
01:46:07the typical size of a 10-fingered rock. You manage to climb to the top and see the breathtaking view
01:46:14of the countryside. An iron suit and a confident smile. Yep, you're ready to nail that interview!
01:46:20You walk into the building like you own it and wait for someone to escort you to the CEO's office.
01:46:26Everyone notices your confidence and smart look. You're called in for your interview. You unleash
01:46:32your disarming smile and pop your suit up. You enter the room and extend it for a sturdy handshake.
01:46:38With 20 fingers, you release a pressurized grip that leaves the CEO impressed and eager to know
01:46:44more about you. You leave the building gleaming with a winner's attitude, and it's not long before
01:46:50they call you back for another interview. Ok, you've got this! 20 grocery bags in the trunk
01:46:57of your car and one trip. The road is long and has lots of curves and hills. You stretch your
01:47:03fingers and crack your knuckles. You plan out the weight distribution so you can have it evenly
01:47:08divided on each hand. With 20 fingers, you grip different bags and hold 10 on each hand. It's
01:47:15heavy, but hey, think of it as a leg and shoulder workout. You take them out of your trunk and make
01:47:21it quickly across the plain all the way to your house. Success! In one trip, you managed to get
01:47:27all the bags except one. Oh wait, never mind! You put the bag inside another bag before you left.
01:47:34But you do need to go back to your car and close the trunk. After a long day at work, you need to
01:47:40meet up with a friend you haven't seen in a long time, and you've been working way too hard today.
01:47:45On the way, you see a nail salon. You hop in for a quick manicure. But with 20 fingers on each hand,
01:47:52it's like doing a treatment for two people. Time is ticking, and you only have one hand done.
01:47:58Your friend calls you and tells you that she's waiting for you at the coffee shop.
01:48:02On to your next hand. After a while, you finish and rush to meet your friend. You're late,
01:48:08but at least you look good. You're attending a new tech launch with dozens of people showcasing
01:48:14all the new products. Many of the phones are slightly larger than phones suited for 10-fingers
01:48:19and two-handed people. The phones are large enough to be considered mini-tablets. You pick
01:48:24up a sample phone and click away. Since you've got four thumbs, typing on the keyboard is smooth
01:48:30and easy. The screen is long enough to be supported by the rest of your fingers on each hand.
01:48:36You move over to the computers and see something interesting that catches your eye.
01:48:41A laptop with a wide keyboard for your fingers to type effortlessly. You open a file and type
01:48:47away. You're surprised at how easy it is to write a quick document. Too bad you have to wait until
01:48:53it's officially launched so that you can get your hands on one of these bad boys.
01:48:58You're at the gym warming up and getting ready for the next exercise. You enter a boxing ring
01:49:04and practice sparring with a boxing bag. Since you have 20 fingers on each hand,
01:49:09each fist you lay on it is stronger and louder than with a regular 10-finger fist. After each
01:49:15punch, you stretch your body and continue sparring. You move on to other exercises to get ready for
01:49:21the big day. You're in the forest practicing your bow and arrow aim. You line up two cans side by
01:49:28side. And another two cans side by side. You take your bow and extend it backwards with 10 fingers
01:49:35on each hand. You place two arrows neatly and let loose. You strike both cans with ease. Now,
01:49:43let's up the ante by adding four cans next to each other. You turn your bow sideways and retract the
01:49:49arrows until there's enough pressure to release. You pull back and let the arrows fly off. Another
01:49:56success! You knock out four cans without breaking a sweat. If you have 20 fingers on each hand,
01:50:03then you'll need at least 7 or 8 bullseye targets next to each other.
01:50:07The bows will be long, but keeping a good aim won't be so easy. After much concentration,
01:50:13you release the arrows and hit all of them right in the middle.
01:50:17Having 50 fingers on each hand will alter the way you look and walk. Your hands will be heavy,
01:50:23so you'll need a powerful set of arms to keep balance and support your fingers. Everything
01:50:28will be large, including your phone and laptop. A guitar will be designed to accommodate the
01:50:34number of fingers that can play around the fretboard. If a regular guitar has 6 strings
01:50:39on the neck, then these monster guitars can have an easy 30 to 40. The music won't be limited to
01:50:45human design and can achieve so much more. Every musical instrument can be designed to suit the
01:50:51current physical conditions, like having 50 fingers on each hand, like a trumpet, piano,
01:50:57harp, and saxophone. A 3-piece band will sound like an orchestra, and an orchestra will sound
01:51:03like, well, 5 orchestras. You're chilling at home playing some video games with your friend.
01:51:09Each control is the size of a coffee table. A hand that can support 50 fingers on each hand
01:51:14is no joke, so a controller is supported by a little stand pinned to the ground.
01:51:20There are so many buttons and pad controls that it's easy to get lost just by looking at it.
01:51:26You're playing a game of soccer while controlling each player in the game individually. With such
01:51:31power to move and coordinate 100 fingers in total, your brain is larger than average,
01:51:36and your multitasking skills are on point. In the end, you beat him. And after a rematch,
01:51:43he beats you. In the third game, you both hit a stalemate. You prepare a high-five and slap
01:51:49his 50-finger palm with yours, producing sound waves that reach your neighbors across the street.
01:51:55A lot of fingers on each hand means that tangible and ergonomic things
01:52:00have to be a lot bigger than average. Going to a jewelry shop is a headache
01:52:04since you have to find the right ring that fits any of the 50 fingers on each hand.
01:52:09Producing any glove is a multi-billion-dollar industry since each glove costs so much to make.
01:52:16Drawing is also a challenge since holding a regular-sized pen isn't easy to simply draw
01:52:21something. Each pen and stationary equipment are 10 times bigger than what we have today,
01:52:27and also cost a lot more to make than regular-sized pens.
01:52:31Glasses of water are longer or fatter so that you can properly grip them.
01:52:36The hand is a lot bigger, and the fingers go around the palm and resemble a sunflower.
01:52:42If you're hot, you can fan yourself with your hand instead of a regular fan. It'll be easier
01:52:48to scoop up some sand if you're building a sandcastle at the beach. With so much more space
01:52:53in your hand, you can make sand balls and create a mega-sized castle super fast. And if you're
01:52:59playing a game of snowballs, then get ready to have cannonballs instead of normal-sized snowballs.
01:53:07Check this out! There's a giant tornado heading towards you, and it's so fast! These twisters can
01:53:13move at crazy speeds of more than 250 mph. Plus, they can carve a pathway 50 miles long and a mile
01:53:21wide. Sometimes you can see them coming clearly, while in some cases, low-hanging clouds or rain
01:53:27can hide them, so they sneak up on you and you don't even see them. And in most cases,
01:53:32a tornado can develop so fast that no one can even warn you in time if it's already too close.
01:53:38And now, this insane storm is really close. Maybe you have a couple of minutes to get
01:53:43somewhere safe. Do you have a basement? Go hide! Or maybe, I know this is a crazy idea,
01:53:49but what do you think about going inside a tornado to check what it would be like?
01:53:54Now some tornadoes appear as rope-like swirls, while others have wide clouds in the shape of
01:53:59a funnel. And here's the second one, right before you. Look at these whirling winds,
01:54:04born in a thunderstorm. They extend down from it to the ground. Many times, hail joins the party
01:54:10too. The U.S. itself has something like a thousand tornadoes per year. Texas holds the record with
01:54:16about 120 tornadoes per year, a record not to be proud of. But you'll generally see most twisters
01:54:23in Tornado Alley, which is a stretch of land in the Midwestern part of the U.S.
01:54:28They develop when warm, moist air coming from Mexico meets cool, dry air from Canada.
01:54:34These two clash and turn into a powerful storm that at some point can spawn tornadoes. And you'll
01:54:40see most tornadoes there between April and June. Though lately, some have come even in December.
01:54:46They can range from a regular dust storm to an incredibly powerful force that can carry away
01:54:51cars, large trees, and even houses. But this is a unique chance. You've never been this close, right?
01:54:58Plus, it's a gigantic one. You don't often get to see such a big one. Okay, ready then? It's
01:55:04getting closer. You feel the wind getting stronger while tossing dirt and debris in your face.
01:55:10You close your eyes and whoosh! You're inside, and it's crazy. Vicious winds are hurling and
01:55:16spinning you around. They're lifting you up at the same time. Feeling dizzy? Feeling like Dorothy
01:55:22from The Wizard of Oz? Now may be a good time to check what's really happening to you while inside
01:55:28swirling with winds and, oh wait, is that your neighbor's motorcycle spinning together with you?
01:55:33Hope it'll stay that far away. Now let's take a moment to catch up. Being in the middle of a
01:55:39raging tornado is actually something you might survive. But I won't lie to you, it won't be easy.
01:55:45The first thing you'd sense would likely be the temperature changes. Inside this crazy twister,
01:55:51it can be 36 degrees colder than outside of it. That's because the center of the tornado funnel
01:55:57spins all the time. All that funneling makes the inside of the vortex way colder, and it makes the
01:56:03air way thinner than you used to. The air would be 20% less dense than, for example, what you would
01:56:09find at high altitudes. Now I hope you're not planning to stay there for too long. Disclaimer
01:56:15here, the atmospheric pressure inside this swirling vortex is so low that your lungs won't
01:56:20be able to extract enough oxygen. Now to give you a perspective of all this, breathing inside a
01:56:26tornado is like trying to get some air at an altitude of 26,000 feet. That's a pro level,
01:56:33similar to climbing Everest. So yeah, you'll need some help just to be able to take a regular breath.
01:56:39In short, you'll probably pass out after only a couple of minutes. But don't worry, I brought you
01:56:44this special mask, so breathing is not a problem anymore. Hey, did you notice how smooth the airflow
01:56:51from the inside is? Some storm watchers ended up inside a tornado. Later, they said it all looks so
01:56:57chaotic with all those raging clouds and wind swirling around. But from the inside, the air
01:57:03is surprisingly smooth. But that doesn't mean you'll get a peaceful ride because of it. And it's
01:57:09not a solo party in that thing. The neighbor's motorcycle is not the only thing you'll see there.
01:57:14Wood, bricks, glass, maybe even cars, cows, motorhomes, bricks, roofs, and other big objects.
01:57:22You'd be pretty lucky if nothing crashes into you in all that chaos. With all that debris that's
01:57:27swirling at, for instance, 310 miles per hour, you can hardly avoid it. But let's just say a miracle
01:57:34happens and you got through it. Now you're really dizzy, and you're just wondering when all of this
01:57:40is gonna be over and if you're even gonna be able to come out of this gigantic tornado.
01:57:45Well, the tornado will eventually slow down. It happens because cool air enters the twister.
01:57:51Just because things are settling down, it doesn't mean you can relax. Well, your stomach can,
01:57:57since all that crazy swirling is done, but the tornado will drop you from whatever height you're
01:58:02on when it stops. If you're somewhere in the countryside, there might be some soft bale of
01:58:08hay to break your fall. Oh wait, we're talking about a twister that's probably more than 45,000
01:58:14feet tall, so that won't work. I hope you brought your parachute, because now would be a good time
01:58:19to pop it. Nope? Hey, don't worry, I'm all about happy endings, so I'll help you out. Here you go!
01:58:26And now you're slowing down, enjoying the view, if you even see anything around you from all that
01:58:32dizziness. How come there are clear sunlit skies from your left, you may wonder? It's not unusual.
01:58:39Tornadoes often form near the edge of a thunderstorm. It's like a border between
01:58:44two different worlds. And it wasn't even windy, plus the air was very still before it hit, right?
01:58:49Well, that's common too. Okay, I think you know this kind of scenario is impossible in reality.
01:58:56So it would be best to find a safe spot quickly if a tornado was close by. Use your underground
01:59:02shelter first, and if you don't have one, your basement could be the next best choice. Prepare
01:59:08ahead of time with a battery-operated TV or radio, together with fresh batteries, or a device with
01:59:14internet to be able to hear the latest updates on the tornado. Include some non-perishable food,
01:59:20water, and other essentials prepared too. As it turns out, some people really were picked
01:59:26up by tornadoes, and they managed to go through it. A tornado actually dropped them a few hundred
01:59:31feet away without a scratch. Hey, I'd say that's a whole lot of bother just to save some bucks on
01:59:37Uber. But you can't have a guarantee you'll be safe or where you'll end up. It would be incredibly
01:59:44hard to get out of one of those big and fierce ones though, like supercells. They fall into the
01:59:49category of the strongest type of storms, mostly thunderstorms. And imagine falling into water
01:59:55spouts. Those could be fine though, at least the beginning, because they're weak and they form over
02:00:00warm water. So they could be like a part of your spa day, at least until they move inland and turn
02:00:07into a real tornado. Now dust devils wouldn't be that pleasant. They're not that big, but we're
02:00:13talking about columns of air that rotate at large speeds. And you can easily see them because of
02:00:18all that dirt and dust they pick up, which is why you need glasses for that. Whoops, wait, I forgot
02:00:24that, so I can't help you this time. But if it makes you feel any better, they're not associated
02:00:30with thunderstorms. Hmm, don't know why that would make anyone feel better when I think about it.
02:00:36But if you're willing to jump into a fire tornado, I'll find you a special suit that will keep you
02:00:42safe while spinning through smoke, gas, and flames. I promise. Columns here are narrow and they rise
02:00:48vertically into the air, similar to a dust devil. Of course, the heat is crazy. And as updrafts are
02:00:54becoming stronger, and if there's enough dry fuel, a fire whirl is turning into a real fire tornado
02:01:01that extends from the ground up to the cloud, moving incredibly fast. Okay, let's stop now,
02:01:07I'm pretty dizzy. That's it for today, so hey, if you pacified
02:01:17your curiosity, then give the video a like and share it with your friends. Or,
