Is this the best start to the offseason the Mavs could have had?

Over the first few days of free agency, the Mavs have gotten rid of their worst contract in Tim Hardaway Jr., received a quality player in return in the form of Quentin Grimes, replaced the departing Derrick Jones Jr. with a younger player, and acquired one of the best sharpshooters of this generation in Klay Thompson. That's a lot for a team that just made the NBA Finals! Is this as good of a start to the offseason as we could've hoped for?

00:00Clay Thompson pending potentially a Dallas Maverick here.
00:20We got the Woge bomb.
00:21We're just waiting on a final piece to fall to secure this deal.
00:25Apparently it's Golden State compensation.
00:27They're trying to figure out exactly what they're going to receive in this, but Charlotte
00:30appears to be in, Mavs are in, three player deal, Clay Thompson to the Mavericks, three
00:36team deal, three years, $50 million for Clay.
00:38And he's reportedly, according to Woge, he had a four year offer for more money.
00:42He's taking less for a chance to win a fifth championship with your Mavs, and of course,
00:48the difference in state taxes, which you brought up, Brian Broaddus, and that is a big, big,
00:51big sticking point.
00:52But ultimate competitor in Clay Thompson.
00:54You know this would mean a little something for him, come over to the Mavericks, chance
00:59to win, looking at Golden State like, ooh, this isn't looking too good right now.
01:03My guys, you know, Draymond, I love you, Curry, I love you, Steph, but I'm going to go ahead
01:09and party with Luca and Kyrie and go ahead and add some more diamonds to my collection.
01:14Yeah, yeah, he's feeling disrespected.
01:16He's upset, but then you look over and they're like, there actually might be some greener
01:19grass over there.
01:20So much so that I'm willing to take maybe a little bit less money because, well, as
01:24you mentioned, the state taxes, that helps.
01:26He's a businessman trying to be a five-time champion.
01:29And I love the fact that he's coming.
01:30I thought Mike was making a great point in crosstalk like this.
01:32The first time ever you get like a respectable kind of star name, at least, to be like, yeah,
01:37you know what?
01:38I do want to come here.
01:39Even Dinwood, he's like, no, I'll go to the Lakers instead of the Mavericks.
01:41And he's been there, done that with the Mavs, going on a nice run.
01:44And so to have this with Clay Thompson, I think so much is credit to Nico Harrison.
01:48Obviously, so much is credit to Luca for being, you know, spearheading and being the reason
01:52why this team is as awesome and close to a title as it is.
01:56And then the Kyrie factor, I mean, they have the same shoe line or whatever.
02:00And so, which is not like a Nike thing.
02:02They're both Nike.
02:03It's a much smaller situation there.
02:05And so I think that there's a relationship there with Clay Thompson that's huge.
02:08But for him to turn down playing with LeBron, playing for the Lakers, playing for the team
02:13that his dad played for and still is associated with in a huge way.
02:16I mean, I think that is what a homerun situation, especially with you lose Derrick Jones, but
02:22you bring in Najee Marshall and now, OK, now you still have the defensive identity here.
02:27It wasn't a swap.
02:28It wasn't you lose Derrick Jones Jr.
02:30Now we're OK.
02:31We're going to be we're just going to go to Clay Thompson and now we're going to expect
02:34him to be a much better defender than he can probably be at this point.
02:38But now that's not the case.
02:39You still have great two studly defensive wings in P.J. Washington and now Marshall
02:44and then bringing in Grimes over THJ like the Mavericks are a much better team today
02:49than they were.
