00:00Palestinian Abjadiyat, Hanbala, Steadfastness and Resistance
00:07A simple caricature drawing of a child holding his clothes,
00:12with an arm band behind his back, leading him to us.
00:16As for the hair on his head, it is as short as the roots of a cactus plant.
00:21This drawing turned into what looks like the traces on the paintings of the late Palestinian artist,
00:27Naji Al-Ali, before he became a symbol of the Palestinian people and their struggle.
00:34Naji Al-Ali invented the character of Hanbala in the late 1960s,
00:39to be seen in some of his caricature drawings.
00:42In 1973, Hanbala became a permanent part of Naji Al-Ali's paintings,
00:50with the emergence of the American project to balance the Palestinian cause.
00:56Suddenly, Hanbala's arm band behind his back rejected this project and chose to abandon it.
01:04In 1987, Naji Al-Ali was assassinated in London.
01:09The character of Hanbala's child gradually became a symbol of the renewal of the Palestinian cause,
01:17especially after the outbreak of the First Palestinian Uprising,
01:21when it became apparent that many of the children of the stone and its young look like Hanbala.
01:30Thus, the symbol of Hanbala's child became the symbol of the Palestinian people in the camps and the barracks.
01:38Hanbala is the renewal of the Palestinian cause.
01:42Hanbala is the victim of the policies of oppression, marginalization and poverty.
01:47Hanbala is steadfastness and resistance.
