02:21By the time that we competed, I could just see that look in her eyes.
02:24Knowing that she just admitted defeat.
02:27I think that you have to be able to take critiques in order to win this competition.
02:30The way she talks about her drag sometimes is as if all of us are too stupid to understand it.
02:35If we're not able to break it down.
02:37At the end of the day, we're all just entertainers.
02:39And we're here to entertain and do our part and showcase our art.
02:42And no one's better than anybody else.
02:43If you don't think that you're better than everyone, why are you here?
02:46Well, always arguing with critiques and making it about something that it's not is really frustrating too.
02:51Because we're all getting critiques that has nothing to do with your gender.
02:54Yeah, I would disagree with a lot of what you just said.
02:57Her art always has a powerful message.
02:59And there's nothing that she goes on stage without the message.
03:02And the message is what is important to her.
03:04So, some of us don't do that.
03:06Some of us are just about the look and the performance of the look.
03:09I feel like the message, though, sometimes got blurred.
03:11Because it's like she would go from talking about one thing.
03:14And then before you know it, ten minutes later, she's screaming about capitalism.
03:18It just sounded like she was screaming about her own personal vendettas,
03:21rather than being able to comfort somebody else.
03:23And the whole point of being a voice is being effective with your communication
03:26so people can be exposed to it.
03:28Because exposure leads to tolerance, tolerance to acceptance.
03:31People that make change don't do it lying down or a calm way.
03:34People that make change are radical and do it with fierce volume.
03:39She stayed true to her message.
03:41She went down in flames.
03:42And I just think it was the unfortunate downfall of not being able to compromise.
03:47Like Jack says every time, we're not critiquing your art.
03:50We're critiquing how you apply your art to the show.
03:54And I really just think that that was where she struggled to find it.
03:58She also found herself unwavering in being able to take critiques
04:04because she thought it was perfect in its message.
04:06I think it's important to take critiques.
04:08Not to change your drag, because that's not what they're trying to do.
04:11But I think it's important as insight for what they're looking for.
04:15If anyone understands that about taking critiques, it's me.
04:18The first challenge being in the bottom, I was like, fuck no.
04:22I listened to every single word they said, and they were like, amp it up.
04:26And I've taken every single critique they've given me and have applied it.
04:30Because I did not come here to stay stagnant and to not progress.
04:34But you know what's going to make you a winner?
04:36You listen to that critique and you apply it through the lens of your drag.
04:41But I know, yeah, you're giving me this critique in regards to my drag on this show.
04:46In the realm of this show, this is what you need to do to succeed.
04:50And I would be a goddamn idiot not to take it.
04:54And you know, regardless of all the opinions on her message or how intense she was,
05:00Dragula has made such a powerful movement, and including her and myself,
05:05and to break down all of those walls and to show that anyone can do drag,
05:10anyone can be a monster, anyone can do this, anyone can take it all the way to the end.
05:14And it really is because of this platform and the ways that we have to appreciate.

05:59Sometimes in the pursuit of drag monster status, a visit to the hospital is required.
06:05Whether it be a nip or a tuck to perfect your glamour,
06:08or just to stitch up the damage you've sustained during the competition.
06:12Either way, we're big fans of an operating theater,
06:15and have nothing but respect for the world of sutures and scalpels.
06:20For some people, the hospital can be a very scary place.
06:24And that's why we love it.
06:26This week, we're asking you to head into surgery and create a look suitable for our hospital of horrors.
06:34You'll be going on location to a real-life haunted hospital,
06:38where you'll be modeling your looks for photographers and editors from Alternative Press magazine.
06:44The monster with the best photos will win the challenge,
06:47and a two-page photo spread in an upcoming issue of Alternative Press.
06:52But be careful.
06:54If your brand of medical malady fails to increase our heart rate,
06:57you may be shocked at what we have in store for you during the extermination.

07:35We see these AP magazines there with a story from the Boulay brothers,
07:39and we're getting to really find out what they've been through in life,
07:42and all of their struggles, and I can immediately relate.
07:45I remember as a child, my dad saying,
07:47there were only two things I could do that would make him disown me.
07:51Turn out gay or become a drug addict.
07:54Reading the Boulay's letter in AP magazine really showed a lot about their history,
08:00and made a lot of sense as to why they've worked so hard
08:04at giving us the platform that is Dragula.
08:07I've never forgotten what it felt like to not have a place, though.
08:10So the events I create, the community I help cultivate, and the show I am part of,
08:13I provide that thing I desperately needed as a child,
08:16a window and weird flower bed where seedlings are allowed to grow any way that they choose.
08:21So poetic.
08:23So beautiful.
08:25That definitely hits close to home, especially Jack Morta's letter,
08:30because I grew up in a very rural south town of about 500 people,
08:34and I remember getting really sick, and I was having flu-like symptoms,
08:39and I was 16, and my mom having to bring me to a medical clinic.
08:45The physician that was there started asking me questions,
08:48and then immediately, once she heard my voice and how I looked,
08:52she went to, well, have you had sex with men? Have you had unprotected sex with men?
08:56And I'm like, no.
08:58And they wanted to run a blood test to see if I was HIV positive,
09:02and whenever the physician left out, my mom looked at me,
09:05and she pointed her finger right in my face and said,
09:08if you have AIDS, when we get home, you're getting the fuck out of this house,
09:12and I'm not helping you at all.
09:14And I just remember feeling like, fuck.
09:17Like, okay, not even my mom cares.
09:22And I wasn't positive.
09:24Actually, it was the beginning stages of Lyme disease, which we got treated.
09:27But I didn't have a queer community for a really long time,
09:30and when I moved to Austin, I found one, and drag saved my life.
09:34It really did. I was so under the thumb my whole life,
09:37either through my parents or religion.
09:39I didn't start living my life until I was fucking 36 years old,
09:42and I started drag when I was 36 fucking years old, and now I'm 42.
09:46And these have been the most amazing, best years of my life
09:49because I've found a community, and I have family and friends
09:52that support my work and just support me as a person,
09:55and I'm fucking amazing.
09:57I'm an amazing person. I'm an amazing drag queen.
09:59My only regret is waiting so long.
10:02Sometimes parents do change, and they grow, and they realize, like,
10:05my mom carries, I'm sorry, I haven't talked about my mom in a while.
10:08I really miss her.
10:10My mom carries a guilt, such a strong guilt.
10:13I feel so terrible for what she put me through, and my dad too,
10:17and they both come to my shows now.
10:19Sometimes pursuing your family, you can help them grow,
10:22and they can become better people.
10:24You're very, very fortunate because it doesn't always happen that way.
10:30My parents will never see me perform.
10:34And they're older now too, and they both have health issues.
10:38So yeah, that has to be something I let go of.
10:42Is their approval.
10:45I'm alive when I'm on stage, and it's the first time I've ever felt alive,
10:49truly alive in my life.
10:51And to know that they will never be privy to any of that, it's a hurt.
10:58But I just put on my fucking bra strap, fucking put on that wig,
11:02and I go out there and fucking serve it.
11:04Because that's what I do, and that's what I was made to do.
11:08I think that's why we cling on to our drag personas so much,
11:12because that's the one person that'll never leave us.
11:15Queer people have a strength.
11:18You can see it in their face, because we've had to go through
11:21a lot of fucking shit in this world.
11:23Louisiana finally opens up to all of us,
11:25and she shares that her life did not get started until she was in her mid-30s.
11:29I think this is finally her time to open up and share what was going on with her,
11:33and I think that this is only going to make her stronger,
11:35and it's going to really rise her to the fucking top.
11:37Drag definitely saved my life,
11:39and I'm so fortunate to be here with these amazing performers
11:42and share my drag and to share my story.
11:45And this shows, too, that, you know, everyone's like,
11:48Dracula, ooh, spooky queens, and they're tough, and they're rough and gross.

12:37My inspiration is the sexy female element of horror movies
12:43and the demonic killer side of horror movies.
12:47Yeah.
12:48I'm gonna play with the juxtaposition of beauty and gore
12:51and have it be, like, super classic, like, throwback, like, swoop bang.
12:57You want to tease in the opposite direction that you're intending to style.
13:00So in this case, because the bang went this way,

13:06I teased this way, and then I smoothed out the bang to make it gorgeous.
13:12My inspiration for my hospital horrors comes from a lot of experience in hospitals,
13:16both personally and close family members.
13:18And I always have this feeling that Western medicine
13:22just is chasing intelligence and knowledge
13:26instead of really trying to help people.
13:28I'm using a lot of tubes that are coming out of my body,
13:31so I have this putty that I'm molding around these tubes
13:34so that I can then glue them to my body where I need
13:38and smooth the edges down once I'm getting into my job.
13:41My inspiration for my hospital horrors look is pulling a lot from, like, Shutter Island
13:45and my realm, the doctor, is obsessed with leeches.
13:48And so he's creating this, like, perfect woman
13:51that's, like, part leech, part beautiful girl.
13:54Right now, this entire thing was hand-molded and sculpted
13:58and then cast in silicone, so now I'm just adding the little teepees to the end.
14:01I kind of wanted to do, like, a mad cow disease kind of thing.
14:05And then I'm obsessed with one of the old-school horror movies, Eraserhead.
14:09And so I'm going to try to incorporate a baby into mine.
14:12Like, they, like, injected me with cow splooge,
14:14and then out came a baby out of my udder.
14:17My inspiration for my look comes from a lot of, like, horror video games.
14:22I used a lot of expandable foam and then painted over it
14:25to give you this swollen, parasitic attachment growing out of my skull,
14:30and then it's going to come down my arm.
14:32I wanted to be somebody who was trapped and experimented on,
14:35and this was, like, the result of it all.
14:39So I am working on one of my accessories.
14:42One of my favorite aesthetics is really cute and outwardly beautiful,
14:47but seriously creepy inside.
14:49So I'm burning this beautifully distressed rabbit
14:54by, um, setting it on fire.
14:57Everyone loves fire.
14:59I probably shouldn't be inhaling, but, you know, it's Dragula, right?

18:19to model against each other in a head-to-head photo shoot challenge.

18:24the judges will also have to decide which of our dragzillas
18:27were able to deliver the strongest photo of the evening.

22:23This week is our photoshoot challenge. I'm super excited.
22:29Paige being there during the photoshoot was a little intimidating,
22:32but I got myself a good picture.

22:36where I am bringing out my pink brain sludge, and I feel horrifying.

25:39So the critiques are going to be scalpel sharp,

25:43So we are going to start off with Louisiana Purchase.
25:47Let's start by taking a look at Louisiana's photo.
25:53I have to say that this Pepto-Dismal pink
25:55was a real relief from what I saw tonight.
25:58I think this character is cute,
26:00and you had a lot of sadistic little tricks up your sleeve.
26:02I do have some criticism.
26:03Those guts, that liver, whatever was in that box,
26:05you brought us to kind of crazy.
26:07I wanted you to bring us to, like, psychotically maddening.
26:10What, did you want her to eat it?
26:12If you did, I would have gagged.
26:13I would have laughed.

26:15The strangle marks were a nice touch.
26:17You could see this, like, strangled, murdered candy
26:19striper haunting the hospital.

26:58I had, like, this whole, like, story pictured in my mind

27:04and smarter, and you started going mad for it,
27:06and, like, you're doing lobotomies on your patients
27:08so you'd be smarter than them.
27:09And I just had, like, this clear image,
27:11and I thought it was just really well done.

28:07I think the consensus was that you gave one of,
28:09if not the strongest photos of the night.
28:12The way you contorted your body, your torso, your legs,
28:15I mean, you were almost on your head.
28:17It made for an amazing photo shoot.
28:19I really liked the look,
28:20but I was distracted by the underwear you were wearing.
28:23It kind of took me out of it a bit.
28:25Other than that, I really liked it.
28:27I didn't get as ahead of a start getting ready today
28:29as the other girls did.
28:30It was my own fault. I wasn't prepared.

29:10and you're not going as far as I think you should have gone.
29:13Honestly, with such a big facial piece,
29:15I had a very hard time pulling any of your facial expressions,
29:19and it seemed like you might be struggling
29:21a little bit with that during the shoot.
29:23Priscilla, don't have a cow,
29:24but we didn't love the execution today.

29:28The prosthetic needs work.
29:29This belly needs the same skin tone as your own skin tone,
29:33and maybe a little bit of attention
29:34to the way it adheres to your body.
29:36Conceptually, I think really strong.

29:43Just tell us about where the calf came from.
29:45The cow was a stillborn.
29:46I like the idea of preserving beauty after death,
29:48and so I brought my little baby out
29:50and tried to give her life one more time on this stage.

29:54It is entirely cruelty-free.
29:55It is all naturally found.
29:56I just want to be clear that obviously
29:57we don't advocate any sort of animal cruelty in any way.

30:06And moving on, Eva Destruction.
30:09Let's have a look at your photo.

30:14I had a bit of an issue with some of the blood splattering
30:16and the splatters on the bottom of the dress.
30:18It doesn't seem like it would logically get there
30:20without it being also in that same spot on your tights,
30:23and I feel like that really took me out of it.
30:25Just so you know, you can see Millie on CSI next season.

30:32I'm actually gagged right now.
30:34I'll have to say, you know, conceptually,
30:36maybe not one of the strongest things we've seen tonight,
30:39but your performance, I think your strength
30:41is absolutely your ability to perform.
30:43The fungal growth, particularly around your head,
30:46it looks just like it's kind of plopped on.
30:48You might want to play with, like, treatment of the hair
30:50to show, like, a lot of less growth there.
30:52I was impressed and scared that you were screaming so loudly,
30:56but I really enjoyed the energy you brought
30:58to the photo shoot and to the stage.

31:01I do want to say, though, you get extra points
31:03for striking fear into the guest judges, so a good job.
