00:00Today is the dawn of a new era. The task before us is enormous.
00:05We're gonna stay here all night if we have to, so let's get started.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:10And today we're counting down our picks for the best SNL sketches featuring the incomparable Chris Farley.
00:15For those of you who don't habla espanol,
00:19El Nino is Spanish for...
00:23The Nino.
00:26Number 20. Bobby watches grandma.
00:43It's not often that you get to watch Chris Farley be normal in a sketch.
00:47While watching his grandmother, his character Bobby tries to keep the woman happy.
00:50This is all the more chaotic with Adam Sandler playing the grandma.
00:54Their back and forth creates some great comedy moments as the fictional personalities clash.
01:13Michael Keaton also pops in to play the angry brother, making the younger sibling's life even harder.
01:18It's a comedy of errors that culminates in a classic fall.
01:21Farley turns aggravation into an art form, making you feel for the man and laugh at him at the same time.
01:31Number 19. Not getting any. Losers.
01:45This sketch tackles the universal feeling of being in a romantic drought.
01:49Chris Farley plays just one of a few unlucky guys, mixing comedy and misery together.
01:54The comedian's character gives a long explanation of his problems.
01:57With each new detail, the speech becomes more hilarious.
02:01The performer even provides his own rendition of a Fleetwood Mac song.
02:13This all comes together with some enjoyable banter alongside other talents like Michael J. Fox.
02:18His presence adds to the scene, with his frequent outbursts giving each moment a fun edge.
02:23It might not be the best script in SNL history, but it does show that Farley makes everything funnier.
02:29Number 18. Breaking into the Central Park Zoo polar bear cage.
02:34What happened? What happened? Did the bear get him? I'm not wearing my glasses.
02:39Yeah, the polar bear killed Jay. What do you mean you weren't talking to me?
02:42You were looking right at me. Who are you calling Mr. Dictionary?
02:45Just for pure dedication, each performer in this sketch deserves a medal.
02:50Chris Farley and his castmates play friends who jump into a polar bear cage.
02:54The violent results don't seem to faze them, resulting in a bizarre scene that's full of all-stars.
02:59Farley delivers on a crazy script and interacts with fellow legends Norm Macdonald and Adam Sandler.
03:05Mr. Dictionary, oh my God! He totally burned you, man!
03:12You better hope that nickname doesn't stick, Mr. Dictionary.
03:16It might not make that much sense, but it's fun to watch the group fight among themselves.
03:21All of them bring their own energy to the piece while also entertaining themselves.
03:26Most importantly, Farley gives 110% the entire way.
03:31Now, Farley, did you or did you not hear me tell him that there was a bear still in that cage, huh?
03:38Well, you know what? I wasn't really listening that much because I was trying to remember who's been killed.
03:48Why, yes!
03:51Say when.
03:53Even when he isn't the lead in the sketch, Chris Farley reminds us that no part is too small for his vibrant personality.
03:59This absurd scene follows two waiters as they dish out pepper to guests,
04:03with their adventures taking them to a table with Farley's character.
04:06The comedian is instantly hilarious with his wild beard.
04:09He then opens his mouth, stealing the sketch away from his co-stars.
04:13It's already a funny moment that's made better by Adam Sandler's reaction.
04:17Almost breaking his fellow cast member, Farley shows that he doesn't need a bunch of lines to get laughs.
04:44Number 16. Newt Gingrich
04:54He's known for playing wacky characters, but Chris Farley can also do impressions.
04:58His take on the former Speaker of the House is completely energized.
05:02The sketch shows the comedian in top form, shaking up Congress with his fast-talking and hard-hitting pace.
05:13Newt Gingrich is funnier here than he has ever been, with a hilarious use of the gavel.
05:23Farley commands the screen in an underrated political satire.
05:27His full-throttle performance never lets up, turning the House of Representatives into a lively auction.
05:33You can't take your eyes off this legend as he carries the entire sketch.
05:43Our 590th proposal of that life of New York, it's Saturday night!
05:49Number 15. Splash Zone
05:51She's cute. And my, my, my, wouldn't you know it, my seat's right next to hers.
05:57Better luck next time, loser!
06:01Hey, how you doing?
06:03Even while competing with George Clooney, Chris Farley shows he can out-charisma anybody.
06:08He's on fire here as a whale keeps splashing him with water.
06:11The character gradually loses it over the course of the scene, drawing huge laughs in the process.
06:20Damn it! That fish really got me! Son of a bitch! Oh my God!
06:28It's hilarious to watch the comedian flare up with anger.
06:31Farley raises his voice like nobody else can, turning every piece of dialogue into comedy gold.
06:37He even dumps a whole bunch of food in another standout moment.
06:40Through the endless cascade of waves, the performer shows that he is ready for anything.
06:45I've gotta see this!
06:55Son of a bitch! Oh my God!
06:59Number 14. Focus on Beauty 2
07:02Dear Lori, I'm so excited about the way my hair looks after using your products.
07:08Here's another.
07:11Dear Lori, I have never used such an exciting hair care system.
07:16If you love infomercials about questionable products, this accurate sketch is for you.
07:22Chris Farley's character shows off a new beauty line.
07:24The talented comedian is all smiles throughout the sketch, running through items with an upbeat attitude.
07:30No. I'm talking no alcohol. Alcohol free!
07:35That is so exciting!
07:37No wonder it's not sticky.
07:39Farley reveals that he can create laughs in a more subtle part.
07:42He talks about ingredients and answers questions, with each one being funnier than the next.
07:47The goofy scene feels like it could be taking place on another planet at certain points.
07:52In a fantastic parody, the performer shines as he portrays a shallow TV personality.
07:57Come on, oh girls, look at the volume in this hair!
08:01Do you believe it? Do you believe that volume?
08:05Oh, I'm better now. I think I just got too excited about my hair.
08:14Now as your father told you, my name is Matt Foley, and I am a motivational speaker.
08:21Before I begin, I ought to tell you a little about myself, so you'll know where I'm coming from.
08:29While we'll get to Matt Foley's debut later on,
08:32we first wanted to highlight how entertaining Farley's portrayal of the motivational speaker is
08:36during this subsequent holiday-themed version of the character.
08:39This time, he tries to teach lessons to unruly kids, but some hilarious surprises interrupt him.
08:45I'll get it! Don't worry about a thing. Trick or treat!
08:50Oh my God! My God!
08:55He first has to deal with a prank at the front door.
08:58This puts the performer in a funny situation where he has to put out a fire.
09:02The fun isn't over either, because the comedian still has to go through a window.
09:06Foley proves to be one of the best physical characters ever,
09:09allowing Farley to break things in another laugh-inducing scene.
09:13What are you looking at? I've done my job.
09:17If you need me, I'll be extracting glass from my rear end in a van down by the river!
09:25Chris Farley as Bennett Brower
09:27Thought the network bigwigs would have sent Bennett and his negative Q rating on a slow boat to Shanghai.
09:35This weekend update segment centers around a correspondent who loves air quotes.
09:40Chris Farley gives his all to the role, but he's really just building up to a big reveal.
09:45He's actually hooked up to wires and preparing to fly over the stage.
09:48I'm flying! I'm flying! I'm flying! Holy shnikes!
09:55Look at Kevin! But I'm doing something!
10:00This doesn't go according to plan, creating a hilarious mishap.
10:05Farley improvises through the mistake as update host Kevin Nealon tries to help him out.
10:09Pretty soon he breaks free and soars over the studio audience.
10:13It's a chaotic appearance that reveals the comedian's versatility,
10:16with him rolling with the punches and flying like a bird.
10:30Number 11. Zagats with Hank and Beverly Gelfand. Anniversary.
10:34What do you want?
10:36Hank and I are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary tonight and we're very excited, Hank and I.
10:43No!
10:45Chris Farley had the kind of talent that gave every role a spark.
10:48His work here as Beverly Gelfand convincingly mimics a housewife,
10:52with Adam Sandler playing the husband Hank.
10:54Their on-screen chemistry fuels some hilarious banter about their anniversary.
10:58The city's steakhouse serves the best beef in town.
11:02Their sensual setting will set the mood for any romantic rendezvous.
11:08Oh, hear that, Hank?
11:12While looking over Zagats' guidebook,
11:14Farley's character turns into a free-spirited woman who's the opposite of a cranky partner.
11:18Sandler even holds back laughter at one point while watching his fellow comedian give a dedicated performance.
11:23From the voice to the wardrobe,
11:25the lead performer bounces off of his comedy friend with glee.
11:28Hank and I have decided to spend a nice quiet evening at home.
11:32Isn't that right, Hank?
11:34The book is gone but the mouth goes on!
11:39Rudy Giuliani's son
11:41Rudy Giuliani's 1994 mayoral inauguration speech made nationwide news
11:46thanks to the upstaging antics of his young son.
11:49But that was nothing compared to the incident's treatment on SNL.
11:55Chris Farley's on-screen chemistry with Kevin Nealon is at the forefront here,
11:59as Chris makes faces and mugs for the camera.
12:03Oh, yeah! I love my mayor!
12:06Nealon can barely keep it together while trying to play straight man to the irrepressible Farley.
12:11And their combined live-from-New-York call-out for this cold open
12:14really sets the stage for a sentiment we'll be returning to often during this list,
12:18that Chris Farley was truly loved by his castmates.
12:21Sunday, we can all say...
12:24Live from New York, it's Saturday night!
12:29Gap Girls
12:30Adam Sandler, David Spade and Chris Farley were a team on and off the screen,
12:34so naturally, they worked well together on many a famous SNL skit.
12:38Can't believe how slow it is in here today.
12:41We've got so many lucky those.
12:43The trio was particularly funny in this recurring sketch
12:46that saw them playing teenage girls working at Gap.
12:49It's how dedicated Chris and the boys were to their characters
12:52that saves the sketch from the obvious pitfalls.
12:54When I was making out with her, it was weird,
12:57but I didn't hate it.
13:04The accents, physical mannerisms and hair flips
13:07lifted the Gap Girls from a pretty basic premise
13:10into a sketch that almost always brought the house down.
13:19We all know that Adam Sandler is a master of musical comedy,
13:22but not even he could hold a candle to the force of nature that was Chris Farley.
13:27I got this net on my head,
13:30cause my red hair is falling out.
13:35I wear these brown orthopedic shoes,
13:38cause I got a bad case of the gout.
13:41Here, Sandler's lunch lady land receives the pantomime treatment from Chris
13:45as the titular school chef,
13:47as other cast members dance around as angry pieces of food.
13:50A spatula just do what you're told,
13:52then the liver and onions started joining the fight,
13:56and the chocolate pudding pushed me way to Holly and Spike.
13:59Farley's facial expressions and enthusiastic dancing are to die for,
14:03so much so that Sandler can barely hold back his laughter.
14:06Lunch Lady Land may have already been a funny song,
14:09but it took Chris Farley's hilarious performance to make it iconic.
14:13We got six kids and we're doing just fine.
14:19Sometimes it's what we don't expect that really gets us rolling.
14:23We're drinking Colombian decaf coffee crystals.
14:31That was certainly the case when it came to the SNL sketch,
14:34Schiller Vision Hidden Camera,
14:36where Chris Farley made it a point to go off the rails with his performance.
14:39You no good damn...
14:46The sketch is a parody of the old coffee commercials,
14:49where a company would switch an average person's cup of joe with their brand.
14:52Only Farley's character does not take this deception very well.
14:59He flies off the handle when served Colombian decaffeinated coffee crystals,
15:03cursing and overreacting in a way that goes against the grain of the OG commercials,
15:07and Chris's own easygoing nature.
15:13We can actually imagine kind of loving a real interview program
15:16featuring this fictionalized version of Farley.
15:23That sounded stupid!
15:25God, I'm an idiot!
15:26In this sketch, Chris plays a well-intentioned and passionate interviewer
15:30who's just a bit too starstruck by his guest,
15:32the Beatles' Paul McCartney.
15:34Remember when you went to Japan
15:37and at the airport they arrested you because you had some pot
15:42and made all the papers and everything?
15:47Well, to be honest, Chris, I'd kind of like to forget all that.
15:53Idiot!
15:55His enthusiasm is there, as well as his nerves,
15:58but he just can't seem to get his line of questioning right.
16:00That is, until a very sincere question about the Beatles' Abbey Road album
16:04gets him a short but very sweet answer from Paul.
16:07I find the more you give, the more you get.
16:15Seeing Chris's happy reaction to one of his heroes gets us every time.
16:22This recurring SNL sketch may be something of an ensemble piece,
16:25but Chris Farley's character, Todd,
16:27had a number of moments that fans still remember fondly.
16:34Some may be a little morbid, but then again,
16:36the superfans were a bunch of diehard Chicago sports fans
16:39whose diet consisted primarily of beer, cheese, and cured meats.
16:43Coach Dicka had his mind on more important things.
16:46There was a war end, my friend.
16:49That's right, our boys were overseas.
16:53Todd would choke on pork chops, have multiple heart attacks,
16:56play his own wife in drag,
16:58and overall just make it difficult for anyone sharing the superfans' table to outshine him.
17:07He always stole the scene.
17:09You gotta remember to chew those pork chops, buddy.
17:14While we've already mentioned another SNL parody of popular commercials,
17:17there's Schmidt's gay satire hits the funny bone on a whole other level.
17:24You two look like you need to get wet.
17:29Farley and Adam Sandler shoot this video clip as typical single bros,
17:32house-sitting and planning a wild beer bash.
17:36This beer commercial is a little different, however,
17:39as instead of bikini-clad babes,
17:41the boys are going gaga for Schmidt's gay,
17:43the beer choice for buff beefcakes.
17:45If you've got a big thirst and you're gay,
17:48reach for a cold, tall bottle of Schmidt's gay.
17:52Seeing the pair go through all of the typical motions you'd see in an 80s or 90s beer ad,
17:56it's hard not to laugh.
17:58While completely subverting expectations is hilarious,
18:01while its satirical take on the ad industry still resonates today.
18:08There have been plenty of comedy shows that have tackled the wild world of Japanese game shows,
18:12but this episode from 1994 was early to the party, and in a great way.
18:18Farley is a stranger in a strange land,
18:20as the only person on a Japanese game show who doesn't speak Japanese.
18:30This could have been a one-joke sketch,
18:32but it gets darker when the other contestants have to pay a horrible price for it,
18:36and it's a bit of a pain in the ass.
18:40Farley and Adam Sandler,
18:42This could have been a one-joke sketch,
18:44but it gets darker when the other contestants have to pay a horrible price for their wrong answers.
18:52Chris' character somehow gets to the final round through dumb luck,
18:55only to find himself tied up and electrocuted,
18:58while still insisting that it's all a big mistake.
19:08Even people who aren't avid SNL fans are still familiar with this iconic skit.
19:11It's not so much the setup of a Chippendales audition that makes this scene with Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze so funny,
19:16but rather the execution.
19:18The judges and cast take the competition between Swayze and Farley so seriously,
19:23and the performances are so deadpan,
19:25that Swayze seems sincerely relieved when he gets the job over Chris,
19:28who certainly has enthusiasm on his side.

20:18This may have been motivational speaker Matt Foley's signature line,
20:21but it wasn't the only thing that made this Chris Farley sketch such a success.
20:28You're using your paper not for writing, but for rolling doobies.
20:34Chris's boisterous movements, his intense knack for physical comedy,
20:38and the reactions of his co-stars all made his Matt Foley segment
20:41some of the funniest in SNL's run.
20:43And I wish to dear God that I was living in a van down by the river.
20:51Thanks to Farley's truly one-of-a-kind talent,
20:54even his castmates struggle to keep a straight face.
20:57That just makes the skit even funnier.
20:59His work here is still making us laugh so many years later.
21:08Did we forget another highlight from Chris Farley's SNL career?
21:11Let us know in the comments below.
21:14I feel great. The cold's all gone. Did I miss anything?
21:18Not much.
21:19Oh, I missed the Super Bowl, didn't I?
21:22I've got it right here.
21:25I love you, honey.
