Transcript
00:00The Department of Trade and Industry, DTI, is promoting the strengthening of the industry of designing products in the country.
00:09This is the center of the news, Denise Osorio.
00:14The Department of Trade and Industry, together with the Design Center of the Philippines,
00:19is promoting the use of design that also provides solutions to the current issues that will bring change.
00:26Under the Republic Act 10557 or the Philippine Design Competitiveness Act of 2013,
00:32the Design Center of the Philippines ordered to promote and strengthen the Filipino design
00:38and this will be accomplished through the Good Design Award Philippines.
00:43If you bring in a designer from the very beginning of the process of solution finding,
00:50then we really are able to uncover or surface, I mean, not the surface problem,
00:56but real issues that could change and really provide a long-lasting solution to problems, to sticky problems.
01:05In addition, the designers that were selected this year showed their resilience and courage as Filipinos.
01:14The designers are showing a good strategy in solving problems,
01:19pushing for change, and standing up for the quality of life through innovative products, systems, and services.
01:29Designers are the ones most future-conscious and are willing to address these critical issues of society.
01:39And when we say sustainability, we're not even just talking about environmental sustainability.
01:43We're talking about economic sustainability, social sustainability, environmental sustainability,
01:48and of course, cultural sustainability.
01:50Jury Chairperson Maileen Aviva also gave evidence that the designs that were selected in the awards
01:56are not only promoting the good looks of modern Filipino designers,
02:00but also the integration of technology as an ingredient in the creation of art pieces.
02:06Aviva also added that even if artificial intelligence or AI is used, it has its limits.
02:14We have seen that some of the nominees, or I would say the submissions, have already used technology.
02:21And we can determine if it is AI-driven because we know that AI only uses data-driven artwork or other artifacts.
02:34So that was already identified by our jurors who are experts in our fields.
02:39So we can see if AI has already been used, particularly for content creation.
02:44DTI Design Center of the Philippines is inviting Filipinos to support local artists and their products
02:52so that they can continue their efforts in designing.
02:56This, I believe, is going to inspire other Filipino designers to have the value of Malasakit
03:03in their design.
03:04And as you mentioned, to also incorporate technology in the future because we have to be future-forward.
03:10Meanwhile, the Malasakit Grand Prix Award was won by the First United Building in Escolta, Manila
03:16for their efforts to revive the building as a museum
03:20and Escolta through the Escolta Block Party that is held every two months.
03:26In 2015, the museum was opened as a memorial to Si Lian Teng
03:31where the place served as the main shopping and financial district of Manila.
03:37The First United Building was recognized as the highest art deco building of Manila
03:42designed by Andres P. Luna in 1928, the son of the famous painter Juan Luna.
