00:00Meanwhile, the first day of the campaign period for local candidates for the 2025 midterm elections kicked off peacefully,
00:07according to the Commission on Elections, or COMELEC.
00:09However, the poll body received complaints about heavy traffic caused by numerous campaign rallies,
00:15as well as the deafening beat of drums, fireworks, and vehicles blaring campaign jingles.
00:21Our PTV's Luisa Erispe tells us more.
00:25The first day of campaign for local candidates of 2025 midterm elections has been generally peaceful,
00:33according to the Commission on Elections, or COMELEC,
00:35didn't receive any report of violations or disarray related with candidates today.
00:40This is generally peaceful, and to a certain extent, it follows the rules.
00:45However, there are minimal issues the poll body would like to raise,
00:48such as the traffic caused by proclamation rallies.
00:51Because of this, the COMELEC called on candidates that, as much as possible,
00:55not cause heavy traffic buildup among national roads, especially in cities.
01:00Some of us are a bit disturbed by the traffic, and therefore, we don't plan to talk to the campaigners.
01:08As a result, you are getting permits from the barangay, from the municipality, from the city hall.
01:15We hope that we can ensure that this will not disturb our fellow countrymen.
01:20Even those who are using drums and campaign jingles,
01:23COMELEC advised candidates that they should be careful not to disturb voters within resting hours.
01:28And for those who aren't using biodegradable campaign materials,
01:32COMELEC reminded them that, based on the rules, eco-friendly campaign materials are a must.
01:37It is enough for us to emphasize to everyone that we are using biodegradable materials
01:44so that we can help even in a small way in our surroundings.
01:50Shirts, ballers, caps, and candies are allowed during the campaign.
01:54However, the COMELEC reiterated that any presence of candidates during Ayuda-giving events is strictly prohibited.
02:01If a politician or a candidate disobeys the rules, why should we vote?
02:05We should not vote because we are teaching young people that they can violate the rules.
02:11It is okay to disregard the rules, even if it is a law.
02:14The COMELEC is open to receive complaints or petitions that will be filed before their office against violators.
