00:04Cutting machines are used throughout our society to create the products we use every day.
00:09Here are the Top 15 Most Amazing Cutting Machines.
00:14Number 15. The World's Largest Laser Cutter
00:17While laser cutters tend to only be found in office spaces and studios,
00:21the largest one on the planet in this category truly is monstrous in size.
00:25That's because the world record holder had a total area of 37 square meters
00:30and was built by Daniel Black, Zoe Laughlin, and Olivia Clements
00:34at the Institute of Making at University College in London on October 2nd of 2014.
00:39Now, the laser itself worked by outputting a laser beam at a wavelength of 445 nanometers,
00:44with this beam allowing the machine to etch and cut many materials.
00:48To top it off, it also featured a custom-made heat sink,
00:51which allowed it to operate for long periods of time without overheating.
00:54As such, despite its size, it truly was a fully functional machine.
01:00Number 14. The John Deere H414 Harvester Head
01:05Logging trees is big business in many parts of the world,
01:08as cutting them down and harvesting their wood can lead to big profits
01:11for companies who choose to work in this industry.
01:13However, a harvester is really only as good as its harvester head,
01:17and in this regard, the John Deere H414 is extremely high quality.
01:21Now, this machine is designed for John Deere 1170E and 1270E wheel harvesters,
01:26and is absolutely masterful by way of its power-to-weight ratio.
01:30However, it's the harvester's head's cutting mechanisms that are truly elite,
01:34as it features four moving and two fixed knives that can cut through tree trunks like butter.
01:39Therefore, if you want a mechanism that can truly eat trees for breakfast
01:43and help you cut trees efficiently and effectively,
01:45then it doesn't get much better than the H414.
01:49Number 13. The One-Click Butter Cutter
01:53Let's face it, we've all gone through the inconvenience of pulling out a stick of butter from the fridge,
01:57and thanks to it being cold, having to put a ridiculous amount of force into your knife while slicing it
02:02in order to get out a decently-sized slice.
02:04Yet the One-Click Butter Cutter ensures that this is no longer a problem,
02:08as it's essentially a plastic container with a steel blade
02:11that can seamlessly chop butter at the press of a button.
02:14And while this neat little invention may seem a little silly,
02:17at a price of less than $15, this little machine certainly won't break the bank.
02:23Number 12. The Martellato Guitar Cutter
02:26If you have a sweet tooth, then chances are that you've visited a confectionery shop at some point or another.
02:31And be it ganache, chocolate, fudge, cakes, petite flowers, or marzipan,
02:35you may have marveled at not just the taste, but how they always seem to be cut in a picture-perfect way.
02:41Well, it turns out that chocolatiers and confectionery aficionados alike
02:45often turn to guitar cutters in order to do this.
02:48In short, these are essentially large, rectangular-shaped cutters that have a set vertical blade
02:52in order to make perfectly cut items.
02:55But as far as guitar cutters go, the Martellato is among the best of the best,
02:59as it not only has three stainless steel cutting frames that allow for 22.5mm spacing,
03:0430mm spacing, and 45mm spacing, but also a tray that's relatively lightweight and easy to handle.
03:10However, at a price of about $1,400 just for one, they certainly aren't meant for casual use.
03:17Number 11. The PureSonic NC1 Electric Nail Trimmer
03:21While most of us are content with using a pair of nail clippers to manually cut our nails,
03:26there are some people out there that are going for more precise treatment when doing so.
03:30As such, one popular product in order to get perfectly cut nails is the PureSonic NC1 Electric Nail Trimmer.
03:36Now, the product itself prides on being a pain-free solution to nail cutting,
03:40as it uses a rotary nail trimming head to essentially file down nails to a proper size at the click of a button.
03:46And while some complain that the process is a little bit slow, they really do work.
03:50And oddly enough, this has made them a popular choice for mothers with children who are afraid of nail clippers.
03:55And while it reportedly can take a few minutes in order to complete both hands,
03:59at just $12 for a trimmer of your own, they're definitely worth a shot.
04:04Number 10. The LC40 Dremel Laser Cutter
04:08If you have the means to splash some cash on a new laser cutter, then the LC40 Dremel is the model for you.
04:14That's because with a starting price of $6,499, the machine is far out of reach for the average office worker.
04:22However, if you do manage to get your hands on one, then the possibilities are endless.
04:26That's because the LC40 uses top-of-the-line technology in order to allow creatives and business owners
04:31to complete some very high-quality cutting projects.
04:34Now, the process of using the machine first starts by way of the material library,
04:38where a user selects their material type and thickness.
04:41The user then uses the Dremel software in order to create a wide range of designs,
04:45with the possibilities being nearly endless in scope.
04:48From there, the software then takes a picture of the print bed in order to ensure the material doesn't get wasted,
04:53and then formats the design so it fits on the material.
04:56As such, the end result of this process is a product that is of extremely high quality.
05:04If you're the type that likes to make high-quality arts and crafts,
05:07then you can't go wrong with getting your very own Cricut Maker.
05:10That's because despite its minimalistic look, it is in fact a high-powered cutter,
05:14as it's capable of cutting over 300 materials that range from delicate fabrics and papers to mat board and leather.
05:20This is because you can choose to insert a rotary blade, fine point blade, or knife blade
05:25in order to help you complete any DIY project you could imagine,
05:28with this cutter being truly innovative, as it doesn't require you to place any backing material while you're working.
05:34However, the Cricut Maker also goes a step above the run-of-the-mill cutting machine,
05:37as it can also be used for a variety of other purposes,
05:40as simply switching out the blade can allow you to quickly begin scouring, engraving, debossing,
05:45and performing other decorative effects with a variety of specialty tips.
05:49To top this off, the Cricut Maker supports you every step of the way
05:52by providing its users with a huge library of design ideas, sewing patterns, and easy-to-use apps
05:57so that your project can be done as accurately and efficiently as possible.
06:01Thus, if you want a solid machine that can do it all, then you may want to consider purchasing the Cricut Maker.

06:18Number 8. The LaserPoint 3 Series Vinyl Cutter
06:22Vinyl is a notoriously difficult material to work with, yet due to its common usage on signs,
06:27many businesses have begun to look for high-quality vinyl cutters in order to create some premium advertising.
06:32If you happen to fall into this camp, then you may want to consider purchasing the LaserPoint 3 Series Vinyl Cutter.
06:37This machine, which also goes by the name the LP3, can be used to produce a wide range of vinyl lettering,
06:43pinstriping, and general signage thanks to its suite of text, curve, and object tools
06:47that are ultimately powered by a set of Roland-compatible cutter blades.
06:51And while this is impressive in and of itself, the LP3's true selling feature is its top-notch editing software.
06:57That's because after you import an AI, EPS, or PDF file, the LP3 then takes the image and optimizes it to your material,
07:04with the user then having the ability to edit their image in whatever way they please.
07:09This is then supplemented by the LP3's spool function, which allows you to layer and switch between multiple colors seamlessly.
07:15Therefore, if you're looking for a vinyl cutter that's truly top-notch, then this machine is the way to go.
07:26Meat slicers are perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a cutting machine,
07:30yet it turns out that they can be very useful for both amateur and professional chefs alike.
07:35That's because be it slicing thin cuts from a large hunk of ham or chicken,
07:38or slicing various pieces of cheese, bread, or veggies, these slicers can be extremely useful in the kitchen.
07:44Now, out of all those on the market today, the Bestwood stands apart due to its premium quality.
07:49That's because its blade is made out of chromium-plated carbon steel,
07:52with the machine typically going through a high-temperature treatment process in order to ensure that corrosion doesn't occur.
07:57It's also powered by a 240-watt battery, and even has a V-belt with noise and vibration reduction features,
08:03so as to work quietly as possible.
08:05As such, it's certainly a solid option if you're planning on doing some sort of cooking on your own.
08:10However, at a price of about $300 for one, it certainly is on the premium end.
08:19There are plenty of safety cutters out on the market today, but as far as being truly safe,
08:23well, few quite go to the lengths of the Slice Safety Cutter.
08:26That's because this little gadget makes use of a micro-ceramic blade that can roll over your finger without cutting it,
08:31with the tiny blade instead supposed to be used to cut paper and coupons.
08:34However, the wonders of this blade don't stop there,
08:37as its composition and design ensures that it won't rust, and will never need to be lubricated in any way.
08:42Now, the actual size of the safety cutter is quite small, at just 60 by 30 millimeters,
08:47and as such, it can be attached to a keychain, attached to a fridge via its built-in magnet,
08:51or stored in your pocket with ease.
08:53Best of all, its non-slip finish at the bottom ensures that the lines you cut are smooth and sleek,
08:58and thanks to its safety features, the chance of you injuring yourself with this machine is slim to none.
09:03And when you consider that it just costs nine bucks for one,
09:05you really can't go wrong with purchasing this paper cutter.
09:13While most of the cutting machines on this list are made ready to order,
09:16the Micro Slice stands apart for being a machine that's entirely self-made.
09:20That's because rather than come pre-assembled, it instead comes to your home in a set of 97 parts,
09:25meaning that you have to put the pieces together in a process that takes about 15 hours.
09:30For reference, the Micro Slice is a mini laser cutter and engraver,
09:34and is controlled using an Arduino Uno, which is an open-source microcontroller board.
09:38And while the 15-step and 15-hour setup time may be a turn-off for many,
09:42the Micro Slice is in fact a very functional machine once fully built.
09:46In regard to size, it has an extremely tiny work area of about 50 by 50 millimeters,
09:51meaning that it can primarily be used to cut and engrave small pieces of leather, chocolate, wood, and plastic.
09:56However, the possibilities of how to do so are quite expansive,
10:00as the Micro Slice has a graphics program that is open-source and free to use.
10:04In terms of lasering power, it uses a 100-milliwatt red laser diode,
10:08which is similar to what you'd find inside of a DVD rewritable drive,
10:11and can be upgraded to a 200-milliwatt diode for a fee.
10:15Yet most incredibly of all, despite its small size, it still packs a whole host of features,
10:19including two stepper motors which move the X and Y axis,
10:22a fan for ventilation, and a honeycomb cutting table,
10:25with all of these things being reminiscent of what would be found on a full-size pro machine.
10:30As a result, if you want a laser cutter that's light and portable, but still extremely functional,
10:34then the Micro Slice is the machine for you.
10:38Number four, the Ultratech V5 Classic.
10:42Gem cutting is certainly a serious business,
10:45but one small error can cause an extremely expensive gemstone to go from perfect to pathetic in a matter of seconds.
10:51As such, high-quality faceting machines are a must,
10:54and among them all, the Ultratech V5 Classic stands out as one of the best in the world.
10:59That's because its mast, which is the part that does much of the actual faceting work, is extremely high-tech,
11:04with perhaps its most unique feature being that it has a digital screen
11:07that tells you exactly what angle you're cutting a gemstone at.
11:10It's also very beefy and strong in terms of its makeup,
11:13ensuring that a jeweler avoids flex and is able to make highly precise cuts.
11:17However, many complain that most of its parts are proprietary,
11:20and thus to repair one often costs a lot of money,
11:22which is a little bit of a pain considering that the machine itself already costs $4,900.
11:27However, when you consider that even articles from International Gem Society recommend these machines,
11:32we suggest at least giving this machine a look if you're interested in becoming a gem cutter.
11:36However, what also makes the V5 stand apart is that it has a high-powered attachment
11:40that's nearly as expensive as the machine itself.
11:43Known as the Ultratech Fantasy Machine,
11:45it's meant to catapult one's gem cutting experience to the next level.
11:49That's because it has additional machinery that allows users to perform both concave and fantasy cuts,
11:54as it gives the standard V5 Classic a whole new range of motion
11:57and a number of features that it doesn't have in its base model.
12:00Yet at a price of $3,900 for this additional loan,
12:03you'll have to be seriously invested into gem cutting as either a hobby or a career
12:07in order to justify the cost.
12:10Number three, the Poncebear.
12:13As far as cutting machines go, none are quite as brutally efficient as the Poncebear.
12:17That's because this self-style king of the forest is essentially a massive eight-wheeled tree harvester,
12:22with it having the ability to clear-cut trees in a flash by uprooting them and then chopping them into pieces.
12:28Now, the machine weighs in at about 24,000 kilograms.
12:31It's about nine meters in length and four meters in height.
12:34And while this may make it seem like an unideal fit for the wilderness,
12:37this is anything but the truth.
12:39As its eight wheels ensure that it's very stable on all manner of slopes and uneven terrain,
12:44has a low surface pressure relative to the machine's size,
12:47and thus is efficient in all types of condition.
12:49The Poncebear also comes equipped with a number of other features to help it handle tough terrain,
12:54with these including traction assistance winch,
12:56which helps it remain productive in steep ground operations,
12:59and a Ponce synchro winch that helps prevent the soil beneath it from rutting and erosion,
13:03thus saving fuel and reducing stress in the machine's drive transmission components.
13:07As a result, this tree cutter is truly at the top of its class in terms of performance.
13:16We've all seen our fair share of infomercials,
13:18but there are few that are as quite as iconic as the Slap Chop.
13:22That's because the machine gained notoriety in the mid-2000s,
13:25thanks to its sleazy seller Vince Offer,
13:27who had already gained quite the following thanks to its selling of the ShamWow a couple of years earlier.
13:31Now, Offer sold the machines as a device that could easily chop up anything
13:35from fruits and veggies to nuts and cookies in a flash,
13:38as the machine would essentially cover the food
13:40and then chop it into either large chunks or small grains by the simple push of a button.
13:45Now, when Vince had it on display,
13:46the Slap Chop would be able to perform these feats with just him pressing the button down with his finger,
13:50making the machine truly look like a marvelous product.
13:53To top this off, the blade never had to be changed and could be easily cleaned,
13:56making the Slap Chop a kitchen essential.
13:59And best of all, at a price of just $19.95 plus shipping and handling,
14:02you couldn't go wrong with buying one of your own.
14:04However, a quick look at the reviews, unfortunately,
14:07makes it clear that the Slap Chop was not as effective as it appeared.
14:10That's because many complained the blades were quite flimsy
14:13and could not cut through things as easily as Vince made it appear.
14:16Many also noted it was actually quite difficult to clean
14:19and it was very easy to cut yourself while doing so.
14:22Regardless, the Slap Chop still does have its fans and can still be bought online today.
14:28Number 1. A Japanese Saw
14:31While Japanese saw may not be the first tool most turn to when they want to cut some wood,
14:35they are in fact one of the best wood cutting tools out there
14:38for those who don't want to make use of an electric power machine.
14:41That's because rather than function like Western saws,
14:44which have a back and forth motion that can be quite labor intensive to perform a long duration of time,
14:49the Japanese saw instead has a blade profile that allows for cutting on the pull stroke.
14:53As a result, the blade of the saw cuts as it's drawn towards the user
14:56rather than it's pushed away, meaning that the blade is constantly in tension while cutting.
15:01This allows the saw plate to be made of very thin metal and still be effective.
15:05And as a result, many professionals who work with wood have one in addition to the electric tools in their arsenal.
15:10However, even amongst Japanese saws, not all are made alike.
15:13Instead, there are two main divisions of saw that consumers can choose from.
15:17The first is the Ryoba blade, which is generally thought to be the most versatile of the three.
15:21That's because Ryoba blades feature two teeth patterns on either edge of the blade.
15:25With one set being used for cross-cutting across a grain of timber,
15:28and the other for rip-cutting with the grain.
15:30Thus, as a result of the two different types of cuts it offers,
15:34it is often the first Japanese saw added to one's arsenal.
15:37The second type is the Dozuki saw, which is used primarily for joinery and fine cuts.
15:42This is because they have extremely fine blades and have teeth that barely extend past the blade,
15:47with their sawing motion requiring the user to move them directly forwards and directly back,
15:52with absolutely no diagonal or sideways momentum.
15:54As a result, they're a little bit harder than the Ryoba saw to learn how to use effectively,
15:58as it's very easy to accidentally damage the teeth of the saw if you're not careful.
16:02Thus, if you're looking for a top-of-the-line saw that's a little out of the ordinary,
16:06then consider purchasing a Japanese saw of your own.
