00:00Hi there. The westerlies are returning and that means a return to cooler and more changeable
00:06weather across the UK, particularly for northern parts. But we keep the very warm air in the
00:11far south-east and east Anglia on Thursday before this cooler air from the west-northwest
00:18sweeps country-wide by the end of the day, all tied in with an unseasonably deep area
00:24of low pressure which is going to bring unseasonably strong winds across western Scotland and Northern
00:30Ireland during Thursday afternoon. Wind gusts into the 40s, miles an hour, could affect
00:35some ferries and bridges in western Scotland and also bring some very unpleasant weather
00:41for June if you've got outdoor activities, outdoor events taking place. Take note, those
00:47winds are going to be strong. They're going to be combined with a spiralling bands of
00:52rain and showers across Northern Ireland and western Scotland. It's also going to be breezy
00:57in the east and north-east of Scotland, but for Shetland some heavy, perhaps thundery
01:01showers will be moving through during Thursday afternoon. We've also got some showers for
01:06northern England, a little shower for Wales and the south-west as well, more cloud here
01:10and certainly a cooler feel compared with recent days. But we keep the sunshine in the
01:17east and south-east, or at least for part of the day, and temperatures still reaching
01:2226 to 28 Celsius before cooling off later in the afternoon as the very weak front marked
01:29by this area of cloud goes through. Once that's through, clear spells for the evening for
01:34the east and south-east and temperatures falling away but not particularly cold. Elsewhere,
01:40we've got further strong winds across northern parts of the country as the low moves across
01:45Scotland and further spells of rain, especially for the far north-west of Scotland. Showers
01:50for northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northern England, parts of Wales. One or two showers
01:54for the south-west of England, but mostly dry the further south you are. And with those
01:58clear spells, temperatures will fall a bit further compared with the recent nights. In
02:03that cool air, we're talking about 12s and 13s generally. The breeze helping to keep
02:09the temperatures higher than they would be otherwise, but out of the breeze could see
02:13temperatures falling to 6 to 8 Celsius in some sheltered spots. So, certainly a cooler
02:18night, a more comfortable night for sleeping for those areas that have been particularly
02:22muggy recently. And then we start off Friday with some fine weather in the south, some
02:27early sunshine. The cloud will tend to fill in, but mostly it's dry across south Wales,
02:32southern and central England. One or two showers for north Wales, but more frequent showers
02:37into northern England, northern Ireland and Scotland. Showers mixed with bright spells
02:42compared with the more persistent rain that we're seeing on Thursday here. The more persistent
02:46rain now confined to the far north of Scotland where it will stay windy, although the winds
02:50tending to moderate a little elsewhere. And it's another cool day. Temperatures certainly
02:55a marked downturn across the south-east compared with Thursday and continuing to slide down
03:02for the south-west as well as Wales, 17, 18 Celsius here, but similar temperatures in
03:07the north compared with Thursday because, of course, we're already in the cooler air
03:11here. Now, into Friday night, those showers will continue for a time in the north, clear
03:17spells further south before another area of cloud and some outbreaks of patchy rain turn
03:22up for the start of the weekend. So, we're back to a westerly influence, Atlantic-dominated
03:29weather for the foreseeable future. That means cool and often changeable, particularly in
03:34the north, but there will be some drier and brighter and warmer interludes, particularly
03:38in the south.
