00:00Now to South Africa. The MK MPs were sworn in.
00:03Ex-President Jacob Zuma's party got 58 seats at a new parliament,
00:07turning into the third political force in the country.
00:10The ANC, formerly the majority party,
00:13only gained 40% of the vote in recent national elections.
00:17It entered into a government of national unity
00:19with the opposition, the Democratic Alliance.
00:22But the agreement already seems to be on the brink of falling apart
00:26between the two biggest parties now tussling over the fine print.
00:30Who gets which ministry could be the breaking point?
00:33From Cape Town, Anne Wenzel has the details.
00:38The DA, now part of the ANC government of national unity,
00:41is pushing for more ministerial posts than the ANC is currently offering.
00:46They are saying that they want a certain number of ministerial positions
00:49and they want to pick which ministerial posts they get.
00:53The numbers thrown around are 8, 10 and 12, depending on who you listen to.
00:58The former opposition party is also apparently arguing
01:01over the position of deputy president of the country.
01:05The ANC on Monday released a soundbite from their national spokesperson
01:09calling on media to stop speculating about who is getting which posts.
01:13But the DA federal chair, Helen Zillow,
01:16has rejected President Sol Roma Posa's offer of six ministerial posts
01:20and seven deputy ministers.
01:22Letters between the two parties have been leaked to the media
01:26to which the ANC responded that
01:28negotiation by leaking demands to the media is an act of bad faith.
01:33The ANC is also facing pressure within its own ranks over its joining forces with the DA.
01:39After the initial announcement of the DA entering the government of national unity,
01:43many members of the ANC resigned.
01:45And currently it would seem the marriage of convenience of the ANC and the DA
01:49is headed for rocky waters.
