Transcript
00:00Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure the health and well-being of a baby.
00:07It's not only good for the baby, but it's also good for the mother.
00:13To give us a better understanding of the importance of breastfeeding and breast milk for babies and mommies,
00:21we will now join Ma'am Fluencer, Micaela Jessa Tandayo,
00:26a breastfeeding and breast milk donating advocate.
00:30Good morning, Mommy Jess. Welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:35Good morning to our RSP.
00:40Thank you for joining us, Mommy Jess. This is Diana Patrick.
00:43First of all, why is breastfeeding important for babies and mommies?
00:48What are the effects of breastfeeding, Mommy Jess?
00:51According to our experts, breastfeeding is the best for babies up to 2 years.
00:59It also helps in the bonding of a newborn baby and its newborn mother.
01:08Through direct latch, they bond and give a connection to each other.
01:15Breastfeeding is very important and the most nutritious food for babies up to 2 years,
01:23especially up to 3 months, if it's pure breastfeeding.
01:29Babies only drink breast milk, for sure.
01:32It's very nutritious.
01:36My baby is exclusively breastfeeding for 18 months now.
01:44It's not painful. It's very strong.
01:49So, Mommy Jess, what motivated you to become a breastfeeding and breast milk donating advocate?
01:57When I started, I was only 3 weeks postpartum.
02:02I was pregnant until a friend of mine asked me if I could give them breast milk.
02:09During that time, I only had 3 bags of breast milk in the freezer.
02:14I said, yes, I'm willing.
02:17Until I can, I will donate breast milk.
02:21It became my determination that I will pump more milk.
02:30I will set a schedule and I will eat nutritious food.
02:35I will increase my milk production so that I can help the children in need.
02:43Our country currently needs breast milk, especially our hospitals.
02:52Wow, that's amazing.
02:53This is an amazing advocacy.
02:54I'm glad that you are helping your fellow mothers.
02:58You mentioned clearly that breast milk has a lot of benefits.
03:01It's a connection and it brings nutrients to the baby.
03:05Sadly, there are mothers who don't have enough milk to produce.
03:10There are mothers who find it difficult to breastfeed for other reasons.
03:14Did you experience this?
03:16What advice do you have for your fellow mothers who are in this situation?
03:23When I was pregnant, it was difficult for me to produce milk.
03:28But me and my OB believe that I can produce milk.
03:32That's why I did everything.
03:34I remember the first night I was in the hospital, I couldn't produce milk.
03:38But thank God, my baby, Tyler, was able to live.
03:43Until now, we exclusively breastfeed and he drinks breast milk.
03:50My advice to my co-mommies and soon-to-be-mommies is to increase your milk intake.
04:00In the first few days, it's normal to produce a small amount of milk.
04:05But this is just right for the baby's tummy because their tummies are small.
04:10There are many ways to increase our milk intake.
04:14We eat malunggay, drink vitamins that will increase and boost our breast milk.
04:24There are a lot of breast milk available in the market now.
04:30Breast milk is now easily accessible to mothers.
04:41Malunggay is a good suggestion.
04:44Mommy Jess, you have mentioned earlier that you help mothers who are having a hard time breastfeeding.
04:50You are the one who is donating breast milk.
04:52What are the necessary processes before donating breast milk?
04:56Maybe we have RSPs who are interested in donating breast milk.
05:01Or maybe they want to be a beneficiary.
05:06I was able to donate to 69 babies.
05:11These are the direct donors who contacted me.
05:14I am also an active donor of the hospital.
05:17In order for you to be able to donate,
05:21the first time, they asked for documents and examinations.
05:28In my case, the documents I used at the hospital were still valid.
05:33From time to time, I check to make sure that the breast milk I give to the little ones is valid.
05:45If they want to donate, they can contact their LGUs.
05:51The LGUs provide examinations for them.
05:57Others ask for breast milk bags so that it will be easier for them to donate.
06:06PGH is always calling for donations because there are many children who are sick,
06:14not just newborns, who really need breast milk.
06:19Their only way to eat is breast milk.
06:25Do you have a community to reach out to?
06:30For example, if they have questions or tips about your advocacy,
06:37is there a community that they can reach out to?
06:40Or do you have a social media account that they can follow and contact?
06:45Because of my advocacy, I created content that can help my first time moms.
06:55I will serve online breast friends for their tips,
07:03especially if you are a first time mom,
07:06There are so many products available, but what is trusted and can help their motherhood journey?
07:15That is my advocacy for my content creation.
07:19I hope they will follow me for more tips, especially for breastfeeding.
07:26Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
07:32Again, Mami Jess, thank you for being an inspiration to your friends.
07:37Again, thank you and stay safe to you and your family.
07:40Our online momma breast friend. Thanks, Mami Jess!
07:44Thank you so much and good morning to our RSP.
