Steve Kerr's thoughts on JJ Redick's journey and the challenges of Head Coaching in the NBA
Transcript
00:00And so let me ask you this Steve when JJ Reddick was officially introduced as the Lakers new head coach yesterday
00:05Of course, your name has come up in conversation as one of those quote broadcasters who made the transition and coaching
00:12Personally, obviously, I don't think that's good comp
00:14I mean you were the Suns GM prior to taking over the Warriors you had background and personnel
00:19But he you did take that gig without head coaching experience
00:23What do you think JJ's biggest challenge is going to be and trying to make that jump from broadcasting?
00:28Directly to head coaching and head coaching the Lakers no less
00:33JJ's gonna be great. I mean, he's smart as hell. He's been in the league for so long. He understands how this league operates
00:39Obviously, there's a learning curve for everybody
00:42but you know each one of us has our own unique set of circumstances that we deal with and and I was given a
00:50golden
00:51Opportunity no pun intended, you know when I became the Warriors coach in
00:562014 with a talented young roster, but also
00:59incredible support and ownership, you know from from Bob Myers and and Joe Lake have been
01:05So we are all as coaches in the NBA
01:08we're all kind of dependent on on the talented character of our players and the support that we get from upstairs and
01:16So everyone everyone has a unique set of circumstances. JJ will navigate his own
01:21Circumstances and and as we know in this league
01:25Nothing is guaranteed. Nothing is given
01:29You got Monty Williams getting fired after one year Frank Vogel getting fired after one year with
01:35You know so many years and a lot of money on their contracts. It's um, the league's never been crazier in my mind. It is nuts
01:44So you you go in and you try to you know
01:46You unify with your front office your management and and and try to build something solid and see where it goes
