00:00Good morning! Wow. We are all here together to witness our hero, Carol Burnett, take her
00:19rightful place alongside so many icons of the screen. In fact, just to take a moment
00:26and be specific, of the almost 200 people who have their handprints here, Carol has
00:33known or shared the screen with, wait for it, 127 of them. She has worked with everyone
00:43from Douglas Fairbanks to Whoopi Goldberg, Gloria Swanson to Robin Williams, Lana Turner,
00:49Harpo Marks, George Burns, Elizabeth Taylor, Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, Betty Grable, Jack
00:57Lemon, and I could keep going and going. It's so beautiful that today so many of Carol's
01:03family, friends, and recent collaborators are also here with us. Bob, your work together
01:11on Better Call Saul was astonishing. Vince, thank you. It's so special to have extraordinary
01:18emcee, Jimmy, and alongside Allison Janney, who is among our amazing Palm Royale cast
01:27and company here, because years before they co-starred in Palm Royale, I remember seeing
01:34Allison on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and she said that one day she was determined to work with
01:41her hero, Carol Burnett. I also find it moving to see Carol's cousin, if you didn't know,
01:51Bill Hader, here to celebrate with her today. Isn't it just magnificent that all of us here
01:57have the good fortune to know and love Carol? National treasure gets thrown around a bit
02:04casually sometimes, but not in Carol's case. As Jimmy has established, her accolades are
02:10innumerable, considering the mere sampling, as he mentioned, Kennedy Center Honors, Mark
02:16Twain Prize, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award,
02:21Emmys, Grammys, Tonys, Peabody's, Golden Globes, and yes, in fact, the Golden Globes have freaking
02:27named an award for her which is now presented every year to honor excellence in television.
02:34So forgive my producing partner, Jamie Lemons, and me for being shocked when we heard that
02:40Carol wasn't already among the illustrious group who have been honored here. Jamie went
02:45off to confirm it was true, and from there, we were on a mission that took a super long
02:50time, guys. It went something like this. Yeah, hello, Apple TV Plus, could we speak to Rita,
02:56Jamie, Zach, Matt, and Erica? Yeah, we'll hold. Hi, gang. Carol doesn't have her handprints
03:02or what? Hello? Yeah, I know, it's crazy. Should we call the TCL Chinese Theater? We
03:08call them Name the Day, which of course paved the way, pun very much intended, because that
03:15is the power and profundity of who Carol Burnett is and what she means to all of us. Carol
03:22is an artist who has helped shape our dreams and our memories, our family connections.
03:28The Carol Burnett Show, as Bob mentioned, was a multi-generational ritual, a safe haven
03:34where within our own homes, we would gather and be filled with joy, united by the shared
03:39love of this extraordinary talent. We saw her at play with her buddies, Lucille Ball,
03:45bless you, and Julie Andrews. We were introduced to lifetime favorite characters in sketches
03:51like The Family and Stella Toddler. We watched her sweep down the stairs and went with the
03:56wind wearing the iconic curtain rod dress, designed like all of her phenomenal wardrobe
04:02by legendary Bob Mackie, who is here with us today. And beyond the show, Carol soared,
04:12as Bob mentioned, in such dynamic and honest and pure work from the Broadway stage in Once
04:18Upon a Mattress to films, yes, like A Wedding, The Four Seasons, and her indelible Miss Hannigan.
04:26As producers of Palm Royale, it has been such a great gift for us to soak up a true
04:31education from Carol and her stories. She's shared lessons and given mentorship to us
04:37from her wealth of groundbreaking work as a producer that we will treasure and utilize
04:42throughout our careers. She is an example of leading by instinct, and without bitterness,
04:48she thrives on turning no's into challenges, which have reinvented television and everything
04:55the arts can encompass. That is exactly what she did producing The Carol Burnett Show,
05:00and in doing so, blazed a trail for all female producers to follow. Personally, and Carol
05:07knows this, she is a touchstone for me because just like she so dearly treasured her grandmother,
05:13I adored and was raised by my own. My grandma Mary and I spent all our hours glued to The
05:19Carol Burnett Show, and the memories we made together are as lasting as Carol Burnett's
05:25hand and footprints will be from this day forward. We love you, Carol. We are humbled
05:31by all that you are. We are honored to pay tribute to your genius, the gift of your artistry,
05:38and for the joy that you have brought all of us throughout your life and career, and
05:43we can't wait for so much more. Thank you.
