00:00 Hi everyone, how are you feeling?
00:06 I mean, isn't it a beautiful day?
00:08 This is such a perfect day.
00:09 Okay, it is such an incredible honor to be here today to celebrate the illustrious career
00:16 of a true icon, Cindy Lauper.
00:24 Her legacy as an artist, singer, songwriter, actress, and activist will now forever be
00:30 enshrined in Hollywood history right here in front of the Chinese Theater.
00:36 To say that Cindy is someone that I've idolized my entire life is an understatement, you guys.
00:43 I remember growing up as a little girl in New York City, and I'd be dancing around the
00:49 house to one of my mother's favorite artists, who is Cindy, and she quickly became one of
00:55 my favorite artists.
00:57 And not only was I drawn to her infectious melodies and her edgy style, but it was most
01:04 importantly her unapologetic nature to be her true self, her true authentic self.
01:10 She helped to empower me not only as an artist, but most importantly as a woman.
01:18 And now to be able to call her a friend is so awesome, you guys.
01:22 I can't believe I'm here.
01:24 So this is so amazing.
01:25 So thank you.
01:28 For over 40 years, she's been teaching us that time after time, girls just want to have
01:35 fun and that we should always let our true colors shine through.
01:41 She won her first Grammy in 1985 as Best New Artist and has not stopped blessing the world
01:47 with her art since.
01:50 She also has a Tony, an Emmy, and countless other awards to her name.
01:56 But the most important thing is she's always used her platform to advocate and fight for
02:01 the underdog, especially women, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the entire LGBTQ+ community.
02:17 She has worked with so many important organizations, including the Human Rights Campaign, Planned
02:23 Parenthood, AmFar, and she even started her own charities, the True Colors United, to
02:30 help bring an end to homelessness among the LGBTQ youth.
02:35 And the girls just want to have Fundamental Rights Fund to support.
02:41 Yeah.
02:42 Yes.
02:43 Thank you.
02:44 Come on.
02:45 Let's go.
02:46 Thank you.
02:49 And the girls just want to have Fundamental Rights Fund to support organizations that
02:53 advance the women's rights and health.
02:56 Cindy, I know you're back there.
02:59 I hope you hear me.
03:00 I just want to say your heart is as big as your talent.
03:05 And as you continue to make the world a better place, no one is more deserving of this honor
03:10 than you.
03:12 Thank you for inspiring so many of us throughout the years.
03:16 It's an honor to be able to share this special moment with you.
03:19 I love you, Cindy.
03:20 Thank you.
03:21 Thank you.
03:22 Thank you.
03:23 Let's go.
03:24 Let's go.
03:24 [APPLAUSE]
03:28 (whooshing)
