00:00Please welcome Bob Odenkirk.
00:05Wow, holy cow, holy cow, I can't believe I'm here.
00:14How's everybody? Good?
00:16All right, I wrote something.
00:18I'm very excited to be here today.
00:21I heard that Los Angeles was pouring fresh cement, fixing the sidewalk, I assumed.
00:29And I wanted to be there to see it for myself.
00:32True cause for celebration.
00:34Now I'm being told someone is going to immediately put their hands and feet in it.
00:38You can't have nothing nice, can you?
00:41Like everyone in America with a sense of humor, I love Carol Burnett.
00:46I was born in 1962.
00:48I was lucky that my parents liked comedy.
00:51Even my mother, who didn't have much use for entertainment and really only had seen about ten films in her life,
00:58seven of those being viewings of The Song of Bernadette.
01:05Anybody?
01:08She was Catholic, with a capital every letter.
01:13But my parents loved The Carol Burnett Show, and so did all seven Odenkirk kids.
01:21It was important to me, that show. Important.
01:25As funny as it was, the greatest thing was the laughter and the warmth between the cast.
01:30Harvey, Vicky, Tim, all the guests.
01:33I couldn't believe I was watching adults being funny and silly and genuinely happy to be around each other.
01:41Boy, I needed that.
01:43Laughs and good feelings pouring out of the TV.
01:46Carol's natural smarts, silliness, warmth, was at the core.
01:52The flame at the core of that show.
01:55When we were making Better Call Saul, we heard Carol was a fan.
01:58She mentioned it in some interviews.
02:00Amazing. I told my mom.
02:03And it was finally something that landed for her, that maybe I might one day make it in showbiz.
02:11I'm still working on it.
02:15Carol joined Better Call Saul to play an absolutely pivotal character, the humble Marion,
02:21who was overwhelmed by Saul's charming, fast-talking cleverness.
02:25And Marion is the one who wises up and turns Saul's world inside out.
02:30Carol, you were heartbreaking and funny and powerful in that role.
02:35I loved working with you. It was an honor.
02:38You're a king of comedy and drama, and your film work has been outstanding,
02:43covering so much range, Annie, The Four Seasons, Noises Off, The Front Page, and so many more.
02:49Always perfect.
02:51You're a movie star, a TV star, a stage star.
02:54And the reason you're a star is that your range is incredible.
02:58But you always brought your soul to every performance, and you shared yourself.
03:02So we feel we know you, even when you're deep in character,
03:06just like your childhood heroes everywhere around here,
03:10where you used to roller skate when you were a kid living down the street.
03:16So thank you so much for having me, and I hope that you'll leave a little of your DNA in this cement,
03:22and maybe Elon Musk can make us a thousand Carol Burnetts in a few years.
03:27Thanks.
03:29Thank you.
