00:00I can't tell if the guy is locked in or if he is frozen.
00:07No, he's here.
00:08That's Marc Zinno.
00:11It is his MLB award winners that we are going to discuss
00:15around Major League Baseball.
00:18It's time to win with Zinn on this Wednesday morning.
00:21That's exactly what we do.
00:23Marc Zinno.
00:23Thank you for joining us here on The Early Line on SportsCrit.
00:27Gentlemen, always great to be with you.
00:29I'm just sorry.
00:30We're not here, you know, talking about Luis.
00:32Don't call me Lucas Gilheel.
00:35No, but we are talking about Garrett Cole making his return
00:39and his season debut in the Bronx today.
00:41And some more good news for the New York Yankees.
00:44A little bit of a precarious moment yesterday.
00:47Aaron Judge hit by a pitch in the third inning of the opening
00:50game of their midweek set against the Baltimore Orioles.
00:53He did stay in the game, but then exited early after the
00:57fourth was taken for x-rays.
00:59But good news for Aaron Judge and New York.
01:01Judge saying the x-rays and a CT scan have come back negative.
01:06So he's feeling better.
01:07I'm sure everybody in the Bronx breathing a sigh of relief.
01:11Marc Zinno, are you doing the same?
01:13Yeah, I mean, look for all the, you know, hot start the Yankees
01:19had and for how much we were impressed.
01:20Even I was impressed about how well they were playing and
01:22how well they are playing.
01:24You started to see the injury bug creep up on a little bit.
01:28Clark Schmidt and Anthony Rizzo.
01:30Now Aaron Judge get hit.
01:31I mean, this is what happens in Major League Baseball.
01:33It's a really long season and it's very, very hard to stay
01:37healthy for 162 games.
01:40So look, I assume Judge probably isn't going to play tonight.
01:43He's listed as day-to-day.
01:44I'm sure they'll give him a day off and I'm not even sure if
01:46they're off on Thursday.
01:48No, they're not because the series started on Tuesday.
01:51So, you know, again, depending on the situation here, but
01:55Judge said after the game last night, he was okay.
01:57It was a sigh of relief.
01:58You know, no fractures or anything, just a little bit of
02:00a bruise.
02:01So we'll see how quickly he gets back in the lineup, but they
02:04are certainly going to be a much different team without him.
02:07By the way, he's been stellar this season and some of the
02:09Yankees and also as we talked about today, getting that big
02:12pitcher back on the mound.
02:13The Cy Young Award winner, Derek Cole.
02:15We'll see how that moves forward.
02:16But if we are looking at the ALMDP race, it's still two top
02:20contenders on the Yankees.
02:21And by the way, Judge, typically when you look at these
02:23races, specifically what in the month of June, you're at least
02:26getting plus money out there.
02:27Judge, a minus 110 price, followed by Soto at a four to one
02:30price, then Gunnar Henderson and Bobby Witt Jr.
02:33Is this race in the AL just going to come down your mark to
02:35these two Yankees?
02:36Or can somebody else do you believe creep into that market?
02:39Of course, somebody else can creep into the market, but you
02:42literally cannot bet an MVP favorite with four months left
02:47in the season.
02:47That is at minus money.
02:49That is just a bad decision.
02:50Like you can't lay extra juice here in this spot.
02:54So pass on buying on Judge to win anything at this point in
02:58time.
02:58It's just not a number that I'm interested in.
03:01Oh, by the way, there's a really big argument that Juan Soto
03:03is actually more of the Yankees MVP than Aaron Judges this
03:06year, despite Judge's eye-popping numbers.
03:09You know, Soto has been a presence in the middle of this
03:12lineup.
03:12And there's an argument to say that Judge might not have the
03:15numbers he has without a little protection from Soto in the
03:18lineup as well.
03:19So yeah, I still think that there are some other guys who
03:22can work their way into this because health is going to be
03:24a major factor for both of those guys, I believe down the
03:27stretch.
03:27But look, if Judge stays healthy, he's not going to lose
03:30this award.
03:31If Soto stays healthy, he's not going to be right behind him.
03:34It's just a question of whether that happens.
03:37So it was a little bit stronger on Aaron Judge in minus money
03:41over the weekend when the American League MVP award because
03:44of how sensational he has been over the map last month and a
03:48half. But with the injury, although we're not entirely sure
03:52what his status is in the next coming days, we expect Aaron
03:55Judge to be back on the diamond pretty quickly.
03:58The odds did move ever so slightly, but after we got the
04:01injury in the National League MVP race to Mookie Betts on
04:05Sunday, where he has a fractured left hand and is going to
04:08miss some considerable time for the LA Dodgers, a ton of
04:13movement marks.
04:13You know, Mookie Betts, who was the favorite, not quite in
04:16minus money, but nearly even money, has moved all the way
04:19back to 50-1.
04:21His Dodgers teammates, Shohei Otani, a plus 145 number, Bryce
04:26Harper, second best price at 3-1.
04:28So without Mookie Betts in consideration and due to his
04:32injury, how wide open do you think the NL MVP race now is?
04:38Pretty wide open.
04:39I mean, look, you know, I think a lot of this comes down to
04:44what team some of these guys are on.
04:47Like in reality, you know, it's hard for guys in smaller markets
04:52on teams that aren't winning the division and going to the
04:54postseason to win these awards, right?
04:56That's just the reality of it said as it may be.
05:00So, you know, whether it's Contreras or Marte or somebody
05:03like that, you know, I don't think they have a real shot.
05:06And Atlanta fans will hate me for this.
05:08I don't think Ozuna has a shot to win the MVP.
05:10Like that's not real.
05:11Like this, this, at some point, this is going to fall off.
05:14He's not going to put these numbers up all season long.
05:17I may eat some crow by the end of the year when it's all said
05:19and done, but history tells me that he's not that guy for six
05:23months of a baseball season.
05:24So I think it's down to, and the idea that Betts all of a
05:28sudden is out of this thing.
05:31I mean, if the metric nerds take over and he comes back and
05:36has a really good final two months of the season, then
05:39there's something there's a chance for him to win it.
05:41But yeah, it changes the odds and I think you just got to
05:45sit and wait at this point.
05:46I'm not sure that there's a real lucid feeling on any of
05:49these people right now that gives you a warm and fuzzy
05:51like, hey, this is the guy that I really want to put some
05:54money on at this point.
05:56Also, Mark, there is that bias of a true DH winning the MVP,
05:59which doesn't happen all that much.
06:01Ohtani did win MVP, but certainly was pitching for a portion
06:04of that Harper at that plus 300 price.
06:06We'll see how that figures out.
06:07Let's flip it over quickly to the rookie of the year.
06:09Odds here, particularly in the AL.
06:11Here we go.
06:11Louise Heal, a minus 185 price.
06:14Currently the leader in the clubhouse at the Fandula
06:16Sportsbook.
06:16Abreu, Miller, Couser, and Langford following up.
06:19It looks like right now again here.
06:21Heals to lose, Mark.
06:23Again, cannot be minus money at this point in time on any
06:27future market.
06:28It's just because they're so volatile markets and they're
06:32up to voters.
06:33It's not like yes, but it's your guy.
06:36I get it.
06:36I get I mean, it is my guy.
06:38But when we're talking about my guy versus my money, my
06:41money is more important than my guy.
06:43So from that point, I'm not laying 85 cents on on the
06:49volatility of a voter going.
06:50Well, you know, if you look at his ex step and bat pip
06:53and everything else, we're going to pick Mark Miller.
06:55I'm not having a conversation like I'm just not that's
06:59not where my money goes.
07:02I get it.
07:02I think the National League Rookie of the Year award race
07:05is also fascinating between Shota Iminaga, who's been
07:08sensational, but Paul Skeens in the start of his career
07:11who has been downright historic with all the notoriety that
07:15surrounds it.
