Pixar is about to experience a ‘ton of change’ but studio boss is excited by it

Pixar CCO Peter Docter and Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann reflect on the animation studio&#39;s future and what to expect from Inside Out 2.

00:00I wanted to ask about, you know, how you feel about the animation industry,

00:03like the future of the animation industry at the moment because obviously there's things like AI

00:07and, you know, streaming, of course, is one example. There's recent news about

00:11Pixar lately, so I wonder if you could kind of speak about the future of Pixar. What do you see?

00:16I think a ton of change. If you're excited by change, it's very exciting. If you're scared,

00:22if you're anxious about change, maybe it's kind of, you know, you don't know because it's, I think,

00:27looking back, man, okay, so I've been lucky enough to be at Pixar for 33 years now, and the first

00:3330 or so was pretty consistent, and now suddenly, boom, there's a lot more out there. As you say,

00:40there's all new technology. For me personally, I find that exciting. I think it means we're

00:44going to have to shift things up a lot. It's funny. It's almost like Pixar is kind of hitting

00:50their teenage, like, change years. It's very similar to what Riley's going through with,

00:55and kind of the unknown, you know, not sure what the future is going to be,

00:59and we could be very anxious about it, or we could try to, you know, use the anxiety of,

01:06like, okay, how can we help plan for it, but then have joy step up and be optimistic and hopeful

01:11for what we can do in the future. I mean, in a weird way, the way we make films is that it's

01:16constantly changing. Like, as a kid, I always thought, oh, it's like, you know, Walt Disney

01:21is in bed, and he just goes, dumbo, and it's all in his head, and then you just make it,

01:26and then you realize, no, the truth is, you start here, and it's constantly shifting and

01:30changing, just like life, just like you as a human being, and so for me, the idea that

01:35the industry is getting shaken up, I'm kind of excited by it.
