00:19In Saudi Arabia, more than 2 million pilgrims have gathered today on Mount Arafat to accomplish the most important rite of the Hajj. This year, 34,000 Moroccan pilgrims perform their pilgrimage.
00:33Morocco and the United States signed a free trade agreement 20 years ago. Economic relations between the two countries are prospering, as highlighted by many experts. We talk about it right now.
00:43In Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria or Tunisia, several African countries are preparing to celebrate Eid al-Adha. A report to follow from Abuja, Tunisia and Abidjan.
00:53More than 2 million Muslim pilgrims have gathered today on Mount Arafat to accomplish the most important rite of the Hajj.
01:04The pilgrims performed the prayers of Dhuhr and Asr in the mosque of Namira after listening to the khutbah of Arafat, which is translated into about 20 languages.
01:13On the sunset, they went to Moussa al-Ifah, where they performed the prayers of al-Maghrib and al-Hijjah. This year, the number of Moroccan pilgrims rose to 34,000, of which 22,500 are supervised by the Ministry of Tabligh and Islamic Affairs.
01:2820 years ago, Morocco and the United States signed a free trade agreement, a commemoration aimed at strengthening good relations between the two countries for a win-win economic recovery. Details with Cheyme Afikri.
01:43Morocco is one of the oldest allies of the United States, both diplomatically, politically and economically. It is the only African country to have concluded a free trade agreement with Washington.
01:59It was concluded on June 15, 2004 and entered into force in January 2006. Its application field includes the trade of agricultural and industrial products and the trade of services.
02:11The free trade agreement also covers aspects related to environmental policy, the public market and intellectual property rights.
02:19Since the entry into force of this agreement, the volume of trade between the United States and Morocco has increased considerably, making the kingdom the fourth trading partner of the United States in Africa.
02:31Moroccan exports to the United States have reached record levels. Last year, for example, exports of food products, mainly grains and processed agricultural products, reached 4.3 billion Moroccan dirham, about 440 million dollars.
02:47A figure that reflects the demand of American consumers for Moroccan products.
02:52At the same time, American exports to Morocco have also increased significantly in recent years, thus reaching a total of 3.8 billion dollars at the end of last year, an increase of 34 million dollars compared to 2022.
03:08In this same dynamic, the volume of direct American investments in Morocco has also increased.
03:14Proof of support, the notable number of American companies active in the kingdom, i.e. more than 150 companies operating in various sectors.
03:22Investments that have contributed to making the kingdom competitive worldwide in strategic sectors and high-value industries, such as aerospace and automobiles.
03:33Morocco is now positioning itself as an economic platform in the region, thus offering companies and investors access to the continent's diversified and dynamic markets.
03:47Since Washington, a plethora of politicians, ambassadors and journalists have highlighted the excellence of relations between Rabat and Washington and congratulate each other on the free trade agreement between the two nations.
03:59The free trade agreement between Morocco and the United States is an excellent stepping stone in multifaceted and sustainable relations. Twenty years already and the best is yet to come.
04:14If we go back to the statistics of 2023 and refer to the current data, we will find that their figure is now 1.1 billion dollars. These figures are four times higher and this will benefit the Moroccan people first, because these exports create jobs for our two countries, which remains essential.
04:35Recently, during a symposium in Marrakech, the United States affirmed the need to develop their investments in the region. This demonstrates the interest of American investors in the kingdom, because it is a stable country and a gateway to Africa.
04:50I firmly believe that the best gateway for the export and import of our products in Africa remains Morocco.
04:58The free trade agreement is the symbol of a secular agreement, of mutual respect and concord. If this kind of agreement is ratified more internationally, it should minimize the risk of conflict and war and help eradicate poverty.
05:16The Israeli army continues to pillage the Gaza Strip. The hopes of a ceasefire seem to be fading, according to the plan announced two weeks ago by Joe Biden.
05:27On the ground, Israeli bombings have continued. This Saturday, especially in Rafah and in the outskirts of the city, on the Egyptian border, famine threatens the Gaza Strip.
05:36More than 75% of the total population was displaced by Israeli bombings. According to the World Health Organization, more than 8,000 children under the age of 5 suffer from acute malnutrition.
05:50The Ukrainian President expressed his hope on Saturday to achieve a just peace as soon as possible.
05:58This statement was made by Volodymyr Zelensky during the first summit on peace in Ukraine, which is currently taking place in Switzerland.
06:05Some 90 countries are participating. On the other hand, Russia and China have not been invited.
06:10Together, we are taking the first step towards a just peace, declared the Ukrainian President, adding that the world is stronger than Vladimir Putin.
06:17But the Russian President de facto set yesterday the re-edition of Ukraine as a condition for and to speak of the requirements rejected by Kiev and its allies.
06:26A total of 250,000 people protested today in France against the far right. In Paris, there were more than 75,000 to respond to the call of trade unions, associations and the left of the new People's Front.
06:41Demonstrations lasted two weeks from the anticipated legislative elections. Local authorities said that four people had been arrested.
06:48After the withdrawal of the immunity of the former head of state of Nigeria, the actors of the country's judicial system held a day of reflection.
06:58The participants debated judicial reforms wanted by local authorities. The report is by Jean-Gabriel William.
07:04It is a day of reflection that brings together lawyers, notaries, magistrates or even clerks, all concerned about the crisis of confidence that has settled over the years between the judicial sector and the Nigerian populations.
07:18The meeting, held this Friday, was an opportunity for the actors to discuss the judicial reform initiated by the new Nigerian authorities.
07:28For a long time, our fellow citizens, in the name of whom justice has been rendered, have been questioning the issues related to access to justice, independence and efficiency.
07:42Thus, on the instructions of the highest authorities of the state, reforms are being initiated by the Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with social partners, in order to make our judicial system more efficient.
07:59Many critics, who, for the union of magistrates, call for a re-founding of the Nigerian judicial system.
08:05And among the actors, held this Friday, is a justice whose share does not exceed 3% of the national budget and whose decisions are often not followed by the executive power.
08:17How to address the state of affairs of our justice today would not be without recalling current issues relating to the banalization of arrests and extrajudicial detentions,
08:29the manifest refusal to execute the decisions of justice and the violation of the law of defense of some of our constituents.
08:36To this, we must add the lack of creation of indispensable means for the functioning of the judiciary.
08:45It should be noted that this day of reflection takes place while the Nigerian State Court has decided this Friday to lift the immunity of the former president Mohamed Bazoum.
08:54Reversed on July 26, he is accused of conspiring with security and the interest of the state, of treason or of financing terrorism by the new authorities in power.
09:07In a few days, the faithful Muslims of Ivory Coast will celebrate Tabaski.
09:11This year, the celebration coincides with the great rainy season, a situation that does not take away the fervor around preparations.
09:17Soumak Soubi and Ferdinand Kouakou for the report.
09:22A few days after the celebration of the Eid al-Kadir in Tabaski, a great moment of sacrifice that marks the end of the Hajj and the commemoration of Abraham's will to sacrifice his son,
09:32the faithful Muslims of the city of Abidjan are already in preparation.
09:36As here, on this livestock park in the municipality of Youpougon.
09:39In addition to sheep, the faithful Muslims are active in the shops of Bazin, which are not quiet.
09:45In truth, the day goes very well, everything is going very well.
09:48At the price level, there was more reduction than in other companies.
09:51It was not as bad as last year.
09:53There were fewer customers as last year.
09:56We even promoted.
09:58In the hair salons, it is the same observation.
10:01The clientele is very present.
10:03Here at the Ayame Market Forum, it is the race for supplies before the big day.
10:08At the level of the Moroccan community, strong of 7,000 souls in Côte d'Ivoire, we are active while remaining mobilized for the success of the celebration.
10:16Here in Côte d'Ivoire, we are used to celebrating it by buying bellies.
10:21In our social policy of business, whether it is me or a few brothers,
10:27we have always made gestures concerning certain members of the Moroccan community, but also of the Ivorian community.
10:34So this celebration is an important celebration.
10:37We spend it with our family, with our collaborators, in conviviality and in peace.
10:43Despite the strong weather in Abidjan,
10:47the economic capital continues to live at the pace of the preparations for the celebration of Tabaski.
10:55In Tunisia, the celebration of Eid al-Adha is associated with several rituals,
10:59including those organized at the sanctuary of Imam Hassan Chadli.
11:02Believers gather at the sanctuary of this imam, originally from Morocco,
11:06to pray, recite the Qur'an and get closer to their faith.
11:10From Tunis, Najwa Bechat.
11:13The day before the gathering, at the time of the celebration,
11:16in Tunisia, people go to Sidi Belhassan al-Chadli.
11:20The state of mind and penance, the need to expiate their sins, the invocation of forgiveness.
11:27This takes place at the maqam of Sidi Belhassan al-Chadli,
11:31a zawiyah located on the Jalaz hill, south of Tunisia,
11:36where the Friday and Saturday rituals take place.
11:42After the evening prayer, we read Hezb al-Fatihah.
11:45This is what Sidi Belhassan wrote on the word Arafat.
11:48In Tunisia, people continue to repeat what the Sheikh wrote,
11:53then we continue to recite other verses and remember throughout the night.
12:00People come here to nourish their souls and their spirits,
12:04remembering God and reading the Qur'an.
12:09Born in Morocco, Tunisia was just a step in the path of Belhassan al-Chadli
12:15and his body was buried in Egypt,
12:18but his spirit is still venerated on the hill that bears his name.
12:23His sanctuary in Tunisia is considered an ancient religious and spiritual building.
12:29Chosen by the imam, Belhassan al-Chadli, upon his arrival in Tunisia,
12:34he spent long days praying in the cave located at the top of a high mountain.
12:48There is a strong and spontaneous spiritual attachment to this sanctuary
12:52and to this cave that attracts visitors.
12:55Here the Qur'an is recited continuously and has not been interrupted for seven centuries.
13:02Every ten weeks, the Qur'an is recited in this sanctuary.
13:06This is what we call the Shadiliya method,
13:10which remains the best way to get closer to God.
13:14The Shadiliya method is essentially related to the Qur'an.
13:18The believer comes here to reassure his heart.
13:21It is only in the remembrance of Allah that your hearts will find peace.
13:26Once the ritual is over, everyone goes to the lower Marala,
13:31which is located below the upper Marala.
13:34It is a narrow and dark cave.
13:36This is where Belhassan al-Chadli,
13:39where he spent the clearest time of his life,
13:42in invocations, prayer and divine interiorization.
13:50The mausoleum is still the meeting place of the Shadiliya Sophie Conferi
13:55which is of great importance in Tunisia.
13:58It gathers people from families as well as the poor.
14:03From Tunisia, Najwa Bechat, for Media.
14:06In Nigeria, Muslims celebrate this Sunday the Tabaski festival,
14:11commonly known as Eid al-Adha.
14:13It is one of the most important rituals of the Muslim religion.
14:16But this year, due to the high prices of many households,
14:19it is difficult to buy their sheep.
14:21This is a report by Gilbert Tamba.
14:23Nigerian Muslims celebrate Tabaski with a ritual cult
14:27which consists in going to the prayer ground in the morning,
14:31to offer sacrifices, mainly sheep,
14:34and to share meals with family and friends.
14:37But this year, the atmosphere is not the same at all
14:40and because of the high prices of sheep compared to last year.
14:46Customers complain about the price of sheep.
14:50Customers complain about the price of sheep.
14:53They seriously complain.
14:55This is how the situation is now.
14:57But we thank God.
14:59When this period is over, maybe the prices will go down.
15:02If this time passes, maybe the price will go down.
15:06A situation that makes the purchase of sheep difficult
15:09for some families of the capital.
15:11The price of sheep has almost tripled since last year.
15:15These growing costs make it difficult for families
15:18to afford the traditional celebrations of Tabaski,
15:22commonly called Salah in Nigeria.
15:25Business is moving away, not us.
15:29Business is moving away, not us.
15:32Last year, when we arrived here with sheep,
15:35we were able to sell everything.
15:37But this time there is no money.
15:40There is no money on the ground.
15:42People are not coming well as they did before.
15:47This year, many are preparing for what could be
15:51the most expensive Salah for more than three decades.
15:54Nigeria currently has the highest inflation rate
15:57for more than 30 years.
15:59Food inflation has reached a peak of nearly 40 years.
16:02The country has not experienced such a serious situation
16:05for decades.
16:07It's a normal reason that we know currently...
16:10It's a problem that we all know about in the country
16:13because of a very high inflation rate,
16:15especially because of the increase in fuel prices
16:18and the suppression of subsidies,
16:20which has affected almost the entire market.
16:22These are the major causes of this situation.
16:27For most Nigerians,
16:29the Muslim festival of Tabaski
16:32is a period of vibrant celebration,
16:34sharing of food and generous gifts within their neighborhood.
16:38The houses of Muslim faithful
16:40and local mosques are livened up
16:42with the traditional shearing of the sheep,
16:45a very appreciated element of festivity.
16:50Two days before Eid al-Adha,
16:52a number of sellers offer seasonal products,
16:54often used in this period of sacrifice of the sheep.
16:57Coal, furniture and household utensils.
16:59Inej Mojib went to meet them.
17:01Watch.
17:06On the occasion of Eid al-Adha,
17:08seasonal trades are more and more widespread
17:10in the different cities of the kingdom.
17:12The sale of coal, furniture
17:14and products made of burnt earth
17:16are among the activities that are
17:18making a considerable impact during this festival.
17:23We offer people everything they need,
17:26whether it's coal, salt
17:28or even burnt earth utensils.
17:35We trade.
17:36We sell products with symbolic prices.
17:41These trades respond to the strong demand
17:43of various products and accessories
17:45related to this religious occasion.
17:47Most of these professions remain temporary.
17:51Everything is available,
17:53whether it's tajine or even kitchen utensils.
17:59For people who don't have enough space in their homes,
18:02we offer a hotel for the sheep
18:04or a symbolic price.
18:06We trade during this period of Eid.
18:10Most of these activities are extended
18:12until the eve of Eid,
18:14while others are continued
18:16during the days following the festival.
18:18These seasonal trades are an important source
18:20of income for many young people.
18:24For all people who take the road this weekend,
18:26be vigilant.
