00:45But did you know that some truly silly names have challenged for the most prestigious championship
00:49in WWE history?
00:51Names that don't quite belong in the aforementioned pantheon.
00:54Let's take a trip down memory lane and have a look at some matches, all of them televised,
00:58some of them on pay-per-view, where the WWE Champion put everything on the line against
01:02a challenger that makes you say, him?
01:04I'm Adam, hailing from partsFUNknown, and here are 10 Wrestlers You Forgot Challenged
01:08For The WWE Championship.
01:10Before we start the list, what's your favourite design of the WWE Championship?
01:14Big eagle all the way over here, but let us know below and like and subscribe to partsFUNknown
01:19for more silly wrestling lists.
01:2210.
01:23Goldberg
01:24Oh, he's the silliest man.
01:25The figurehead of WWF being a catty little mister during the Monday Night Wars, over
01:30in WCW they had Goldberg.
01:33Have you heard of him?
01:34He fought for the WWE Championship at Summerslam.
01:36Wasn't that silly?
01:37He was a big dude who killed medium dudes and entered to terrifying pyro.
01:42Vince responded by transforming Dwayne Gill into Gilberg, a tadpole dude who died often,
01:48and came out to sparklers and aggressive fire extinguishers.
01:51Oh, and he was also WWF Light Heavyweight Champion for 15 f***ing months.
01:56How do you do?
01:57During that reign, or to be specific, on August 31st, 1999's episode of Smackdown, he had
02:02a shot at an upgrade when he wrestled Triple H for the WWF title in the greatest champion
02:07vs champion match since Hogan and Warrior.
02:09He actually got a spear in on Trips, which popped the crowd before proceeding to be murdered
02:13in the kind of arrogant champion puts his title on the line against a jobber that WWE
02:17have repeated many times since.
02:19See also Brock destroying Paul London for the Undisputed title in October 2003, and
02:23Sheamus killing Zack Ryder with the spinner belt on the line in August 2010.
02:279.
02:28Cody Rhodes
02:29I think it's fair to say that AEW really needs to see a surgeon about that chip on
02:33its shoulder.
02:34At the start it was all good fun, Cody doing a Gilberg level squash on a giant f***ing
02:39chair before staring down the lens for 10 minutes saying, do you get it?
02:43But while Cody has many legitimate reasons to hate the big dub, most of them polka dot
02:48The one thing he can't claim is that he never got a chance to compete for the WWE Championship
02:52because that is technically what happened on Raw on the 31st of August 2009.
02:58See that night, the guest host of Raw turned out to be the American Dream Dusty Rhodes
03:01who cut a prome about how much he loved his son, who was actually a heel at the time as
03:06part of Legacy.
03:07The champion, Randy Orton, put his title on the line against Cody, who holy s*** really
03:11looked like Lazy Town's Robbie Rotten at the time, with John Cena a special guest ref.
03:15The actual match broke down almost immediately, with it being revealed to be a Legacy ambush
03:19on Big Match John, but hell, the match is technically in the books.
03:23But if you're not convinced by that and think this is a wasted entry, Val Venus fought
03:26The Rock for the WWE Championship on the October 12th, 2000 episode of Smackdown while dressed
03:31as a milkman.
03:32Venus rhymes with penis.
03:338.
03:34Spike Dudley
03:35Spike Dudley is often referred to as the runt of the Dudley litter, but out of all his brothers,
03:38including Big Dick Dudley, never forget him, he's actually had the most WWE Championship
03:43matches in his career.
03:45to having none.
03:46Bubba Ray fought Kurt Angle for the strap on Smackdown in December 2000, but Spike has
03:50fought for the former Winged Eagle not once, but twice.
03:53In the main event of Smackdown, June 14th, 2001, Spike fought Steve Austin for the belt,
03:58and actually lasted four minutes, good for him.
04:01Three years later, on July 1st, 2004, the week after dethroning Eddie Guerrero for the
04:05WWE Championship boo, JBL defended the black and gold against Spike again in the main event
04:10of Smackdown, and Spike lasted almost twice as long, even nailing the Dudley dog for a
04:14near fall.
04:15Turns out, Steve Austin is better than JBL, it's finally official.
04:197.
04:20Crash Holly
04:21We almost put Hardcore Holly on this list, but I reckon most of our fans remember his
04:24incongruous match for the WWE Championship at the 2004 Royal Rumble, a fleeting main
04:29event promotion as a way of saying, you know, sorry about the whole Brock accidentally breaking
04:33your neck thing.
04:34It's a fairly well-known little wrestling courier, but did you know that both Holly cousins
04:38have wrestled for the big belt?
04:40Yes, just over three years earlier, on the 13th November Raw in 2000, little Crash Holly
04:45had the opportunity to add a WWE Championship run to his 22 Hardcore title reigns.
04:50The show opened with current champ Kurt Angle declaring himself the most fightingest champion
04:55in WWE history, offering to fight a certain superstar who would have his arm tied behind
04:59his back.
05:00That superstar was Crash Holly, arm tied behind his back because damn, gotta make this match
05:04up fair somehow I guess.
05:06Despite going on to stack the deck against Angle by untying his arm, that wasn't part
05:10of the deal Crash, Angle was able to overcome the odds, survive a near fall, before locking
05:14in the ankle lock for a quick win.
05:166.
05:17Eric Bischoff
05:18Good for you dad, you silly karate bastard.
05:20On October 3rd, 2005, WWE had a special homecoming episode of Monday Night Raw, with the program
05:26returning to the USA Network after five years with the channel then known as Spike TV.
05:32How do you celebrate such a momentous occasion?
05:34First of all, bring back Steve Austin to stun every member of the McMahon family, that
05:38works.
05:39Next, have a Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels Iron Man match, yes please I'll take seconds.
05:43Third, have Eric Bischoff wrestle John Cena for the WWE Championship in a no disqualification
05:48match with Kurt Angle sat at ringside like he's front row at a strip club.
05:51Did my dad win the WWE Championship?
05:54He did his best.
05:56Angle accidentally hit himself in the head with a chair, then one FU later, Bischoff
05:59was done.
06:005.
06:01The Fabulous Moolah
06:02By accounts, Fabulous Moolah was the worst, with heaps of allegations against her for
06:03ripping off her trainees, trainees she would allegedly pimp out to other promoters, she
06:04helped screw Wendy Richter back in the 80s.
06:05She sounds terrible.
06:06Moolah famously beat Ivory to become WWF Women's Champion in 1999 at the ripe old
06:07age of 76.
06:08However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:09to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:10Moolah was the first female WWE Champion to win the WWE Championship.
06:11However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:12to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:13However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:29to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:30However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:31to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:32However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:33to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:34However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:35to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:36However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:37to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:38However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:39to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:40However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:41to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:42However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:43to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:44However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:45to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:46However, three years later, on the 28th November episode of Smackdown in 2002, Moolah came
06:47to the ring, 79 years of age, with the title of Women's Champion.
06:48But there's more.
07:02a near fall on trips as well.
07:044.
07:05Farouk
07:06It shouldn't really be much of a surprise that Ron Simmons got a WWE Championship match
07:09at some point in his career, after all, the man became the first African American to win
07:12the WCW World Heavyweight title, but in WWE he would always be remembered as a midcard,
07:18his most famous run being one half of the APA, Always Pounding Ass.
07:21However, before he was Always Pounding Ass, he used to be the leader of the Nation of
07:25Domination, a faction that helped usher in the Attitude Era throughout the late 90s,
07:29peaking with Farouk receiving a WWF Championship match on f***ing pay-per-view no less.
07:35At King of the Ring 1997, Farouk, accompanied by members of the Nation, took on reigning
07:40champion The Undertaker, Crush was part of the Nation back then, lol Crush what are you
07:44doing there?
07:45It was a 13 minute match that was really quite boring indeed I'll be honest, which goes
07:48some way towards explaining why it's so easily forgotten.
07:51After the match, Ahmed Johnson beat up The Undertaker.
07:53Did Ahmed Johnson get a WWF title match?
07:56He did not.
07:573.
07:58The Patriots
07:59In peace, Dell Wilkes, the man behind the Patriot mask, who passed away in June earlier
08:03this year, the Patriot wrestled throughout the world during his career, including a cup
08:06of coffee in WWE, for about 6 months in 1997.
08:10Most fans remember him for having a pretty kickass entrance theme that would go on to
08:13be known the world over as Metal, Kurt Angle's entrance music.
08:17Years before Angle would make his debut, that music sounded before a match for the WWF Championship
08:21at In Your House, Ground Zero in September 1997.
08:26When Bret Hart was in the middle of his Yay Canada, Boo USA feud that gradually everyone
08:30else in the world would come to realise was a righteous cause, Bret Hart way ahead of
08:33his time as usual, to bolster that feud, the Patriot was rushed into a title match with
08:37Hart to try and sell as many flags as humanly possible.
08:40The highlight of the match saw the Patriot lock Bret in his own sharpshooter, though
08:43Bret would of course emerge victorious.
08:45The Patriot only had 3 PPV matches in WWF before succumbing to a triceps injury and
08:49being released shortly thereafter, but when one of your 3 matches on PPV was a 20 minute
08:53bout against WWF Champion Bret Hart, pretty good going.
08:572.
08:58X-Park Ah, the original Karate Kid, DX on, DX off.
09:02Sean Waltman had two major lifetimes in WWE, the first as the 1-2-3 kid who was very good
09:07but looked like he was about to burst into tears at the slightest breeze, and the second
09:10as X-Park who was very good but spent most of the time doing hateful kung fu poses like
09:14your mum's new boyfriend.
09:16Neither gimmick strayed above the midcard, but amazingly both iterations of DX's most
09:20earnest penis indicator received shots at the WWF Championship.
09:24The 1-2-3 kid got a shot against Bret Hart's Winged Eagle in what I imagine was a whopping
09:2817 minutes, which was super rare at the time, and it was caught by the commentator-odd couple
09:32of JR and Macho Man Randy Savage and was really bloody great.
09:36Four years later, in 1998, the WWF produced the UK-exclusive PPV Capital Carnage, a show
09:42famous for featuring Vinny Jones, Jacqueline having her top ripped off, and JR suffering
09:46a tachybel's palsy during the show.
09:48With all that going on, it's easy to forget that the WWF Championship match was, on that
09:51card, the Corporate Champion The Rock putting his Big Eagle belt on the line against X-Park
09:56in a rematch of another WWF title match the two had on Raw three weeks earlier, and in
10:01both cases those matches were… fine.
10:03It was the late 90s, it was run in Central.
10:06They were fine.
10:071.
10:08The Brian Kendrick
10:09Brian Kendrick was, and remains, awesome.
10:12He was the emotional heart of the Cruiserweight Classic, looks like what would have happened
10:15if Charles Manson had gotten into disco instead of cult, and in the late 2000s his gimmick
10:19of the Brian Kendrick was really great, a sort of Jack Sparrow rocker slash drug-addled
10:25swan.
10:26It was a lot of fun.
10:27He won the right to compete for the WWE Championship in a championship scramble at Unforgiven 2008,
10:31in a match that featured guys who also never otherwise got title shots, MVP and Shelton
10:36Benjamin.
10:37What makes the story even more fun is that not only was this Cruiserweight with the odd
10:40gimmick getting an incongruous title shot, but he actually, sort of, won the WWE Championship.
10:46Kinda.
10:47See the rules of the scramble, and now I just really want a plate of eggs but I'll get
10:50through that, stated that the match would last exactly 20 minutes, superstars enter
10:54every 5, if you pinned someone you became interim WWE Champion, and whoever was champ
11:00at the end of the match officially won the title.
11:02Shortly after he arrived, Kendrick pinned Jeff Hardy, became interim most prestigious
11:07champion in all of wrestling, held it for 6 minutes before being pinned by Triple H.
11:12It's officially not part of WWE canon, so Kendrick is unique as not only receiving a
11:17forgotten WWE Championship match, but a forgotten WWE Championship reign, all 6 minutes of it.
11:23And that's our list.
