00:00Hello and
00:27welcome to the first of our 2024 European Championship live shows for National World
00:32Local TV and Shorts TV with myself Daniel Wales and my colleague Charles Haig-Jones.
00:37Now our first show today of course will be looking at the Germany-Scotland game. All
00:43our shows we're going to be doing six across the group stages looking at every single England
00:47and Scotland game and then of course into the knockout games we'll do selected games
00:52whether that be England or Scotland or other big games that we choose to look at. But for
00:56now it is the first game of the tournament. It is Germany the host against Scotland and
01:01we've been speaking to Jack who is one of, he's a Scottish media person and some of his
01:07mates who are out in Germany looking forward to the big game in Munich.
01:13We're here live at the Olympia but fans own in. You're in £25 expected in here before kick-off tonight.
01:20There's a majority of Tottenham in there, there's lots of kilts, lots of tarp, a fair few Xerons as well but I think
01:25there's going to be a crack at that as we all play along. We're in the live band room just now, the sun's just coming out.
01:30We're in for an absolute cracker. Tonight's game, I'm hopeful to be honest, I really am hopeful.
01:36I think this is the best time that we could be playing Germany in a young team. There's a lot of talent in that
01:40side, especially going forward, the likes of Jamal Doucey, I love Tory and Burson, can't wait to have a spot into them.
01:46But we've got plenty of good players ourselves, Jordan against plenty, an opportunity to pull the strings.
01:52If Billy Giltner starts, I think it's where the party's about. We're hoping that he dominates a bit because we don't
01:57know how much people like him, I suppose, over the last qualified campaign. I just think it's going to be a fantastic
02:02day to cast him out but I am hopeful and I think that we do have a goal in us, we do have a performance in us.
02:08My head says that Germany might sneak in but my heart is going for an Arnold Scotland win.
02:14I'll go 2-1, John McGinnigan the winner. Might be a basic prediction but it's what I've got on and I'm going to go back and enjoy the beer.
02:21Cheers.
02:27That's our last song.
02:29F***.
02:30Can't you feel it coming, can't you feel it coming now?
02:34How the world is turning cold, now the light is running out.
02:38It was warm, the sun is setting on my snow.
02:43There we go, that was good to hear from Jack out in Germany, fans out in Germany.
02:48I mean, some of the news reports you see of the Tartan army, there's no doubt their football team aren't going to bring much
02:57in terms of electric lights to the pitch but off the pitch, the Tartan army are fantastic.
03:03There's no doubt about that.
03:04Their support and following is fantastic.
03:07So, they are just going to hope that it is reciprocated on that pitch and Scotland can get across the line.
03:14But there are worries for Scotland at the end of the day.
03:16I mean, it's a tough group.
03:19Dan, I mean, looking at the Scottish squad, their best two players are probably left-backs.
03:24Nandy Robertson and Kieran Tierney, you know, they're two top players.
03:29I think, can you win something when your best two players are left-backs is quite a struggle.
03:34I think, you know, I've seen a lot of Scottish fans be quite realistic about that.
03:38They need more going forward and they need to sort of, you know, gather it.
03:43But their midfield looks okay.
03:45I mean, the likes of John McDonnell had a fantastic season.
03:48Scott McDonnell has had a fantastic season as well.
03:54How do you see this one going in terms of, it's against the hosts, the hosts are going to be up for this.
03:58You know, they've won more European championships than anyone as well.
04:02Germany have had an interesting few last tournaments, haven't they?
04:04They've not been brilliant.
04:06And so, I think the pressure is actually probably on them from a lot of the German public to perform in this tournament on home soil.
04:13So, you'd imagine Germany would go and win this game.
04:17But I wouldn't put it past Scotland at least being in it for a long period,
04:22whether that be taking the lead or whether that be holding Germany or even equalising it if Germany went ahead.
04:29So, I think it'll be an interesting game.
04:32As I say, I could be proven completely wrong by, you know, about 10 o'clock this evening.
04:37But I don't see it being a very one-sided game.
04:42I think Germany will win, but I think Scotland will be in it for a lot of the game.
04:46And I think Scotland's fight and determination will take them some of the way to getting perhaps even a point out of this game,
04:54which I think would be a great start for them.
04:57But as I say, I think Germany are more likely to win, to be honest.
05:01You say that some Scottish players have had great seasons, obviously John McGinn in particular,
05:06Aston Villa qualifying for the Champions League.
05:09Germany, of course, have got some great players in there too.
05:11Kai Havertz had a great season at Arsenal, for example.
05:14So, I think it'll be an interesting watch.
05:17As you say there, I think Germany has been well and truly turned Scottish in the last couple of days,
05:24to be honest, without a doubt of the Tottenham who have gone over there.
05:28But I fear they may be disappointed come this evening.
05:32However, as I say, having said that, I still think they'll put up a good fight.
05:35And whether they'll get out of the group is another question.
05:39You could see them perhaps coming third and being one of the third places who get into the last 16.
05:46So, whilst I don't think Scotland's luck will be in tonight,
05:51I do think they have a chance of getting out of that group.
05:54So, there we look ahead to the Scottish opening game against the host Germany.
05:59Obviously, a massive, massive occasion.
06:01You know, as Dan said, while the luck may not be in tonight,
06:05they're hoping it will be for the remaining of the games.
06:07It's obviously quite a tough group.
06:09But we will be keeping across all the Scottish action in the Shores.
06:13A fantastic achievement to get there.
06:15So, we'll be giving you plenty of shows and takes and opinions on how they've got on and the latest.
06:23And looking forward to more games as well.
06:24So, if you want more of that, we'll keep across that on the local TV network.
06:29So, that's all from us for tonight.
06:32Enjoy the game and yeah, we'll see you soon.
