A kindergarten teacher was sentenced to two months in jail by the Magistrate's Court in Klang on Friday (June 14) for injuring a four-year-old boy last month.

Magistrate Siti Zubaidah Mahat meted out the sentence on M. Malini, 25, after she pleaded guilty to intentionally injuring the child at a kindergarten in Jalan Pandamaran at 9.36am on May 13.

00:25The 25-year-old was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for
00:30a maximum sentence of one year imprisonment or a fine of up to 2,000 ringgit, or both,
00:38if convicted.
00:39The court ordered the accused to serve the sentence starting from the date of arrest.
00:44However, lawyer A Birantha, who represented the accused, requested a stay of execution
00:50pending an appeal to the High Court.
00:53According to Birantha, the accused did not receive any notice regarding the proceedings,
00:58and his client was told by her family that the punishment to be imposed would only be
01:03in the form of a fine.
01:05Deputy Public Prosecutor Yong Ching Hong did not object to the application and asked the
01:11court to impose bail of 5,000 ringgit in one surety.
01:16The court granted the application for a stay of execution of the sentence and set bail
01:21on the terms requested by the prosecution.
