A tragic fire incident that took place in Kuwait today, claimed the lives of about 43 people and injured at least 40 others. As per On Manorama, 10 Indians, including five Keralites have lost their lives in the blaze. The incident took place at Mangaf block In Kuwait's Ahmadi Governorate. The origin of the fire is said to be one of the kitchens in the lower floors of the building. As per sources, the fire rapidly spread all across the building leaving everything charred. What might seem even more heartbreaking is the reports of a few individuals who leaped out of the building to escape the blaze and were killed. Meanwhile, others succumbed to asphyxiation and burn injuries.

01:13So who owned the building? The building accommodated around 195 labourers who were mostly from
01:19Kerala, Tamil Nadu and North India. The building belongs to a Malayali businessman named KG
01:24Ibrahim, who owns the NBTC Group. As per reports, the employees of the NBTC supermarket also
01:30dwelled in the ill-fated building. The fire has been contained, however, several reports
01:35indicate that many people may still be trapped inside the building.
01:39Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah accused real estate owners
01:45of violations and greed, saying those factors contributed towards the incident.
01:49Unfortunately, the greed of real estate owners is what leads to these matters, said Sheikh
01:54Fahad, who also runs the Interior and Defence Ministries.
01:58The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has issued a helpline number and said the fire incident
02:01involved some Indian workers and the embassy will render all possible assistance.

02:09and full recovery to those who have been injured. Our embassy will render the fullest assistance
02:13to all those concerned in this regard, he added.
02:16The Indian Ambassador in Kuwait said that over 30 Indian workers injured in today's
02:20fire incident have been admitted. The ambassador met with the patients and assured them of
02:24full assistance from the embassy.
