00:00 Right down here Dorothy Gentry I messenger media from Dallas, Texas Kyrie share with us what you're feeling right now just your thoughts
00:07 Mentally, how do you get yourself geared up for game two?
00:11 Just grateful for the experience to get through game one
00:14 you know, it's a lot of emotions going into it and
00:18 Just waiting for the opportunity to get out there and compete, you know going against a great Celtics team. So
00:26 We just had to get this one out the way and we didn't perform the way we would have wanted to tonight
00:30 You know starts with me just being able to get out there and get us settled
00:35 I got to take some accountability for just the communication and
00:39 just going out there and getting used to the way that the
00:43 Kind of environment was gonna be but I think my teammates did a great job of staying together sticking to the game plan
00:50 we obviously made some mistakes like I said, but
00:52 we gave ourselves a chance in the second half and we just got to continue to do the right things and
00:58 Win the quarters as much as we can
01:01 They came out and hit us in the mouth early got the home crowd going into it down 17 in the first quarter. It's not
01:08 Really like us to give up 37 points. It's happened to us before in the playoffs
01:13 but we just want to make it a lot tougher on them and they hit a lot of threes and
01:18 Again, when you get them rolling like that, they play a very easy game the rest of the game and we just got to hit them
01:23 In the mouth a little bit so they did their job getting game one
01:27 But we're gonna take our lessons and get ready for a good game - you're in the front Tim Tim McMahon
01:33 he is being Kyrie, obviously with you and Luca you guys have two of the best one-on-one players in the world, but
01:37 Ball wasn't moving tonight. How do you avoid with the way that the Celtics play defensively?
01:44 You know falling into kind of the trap of relying on isolation and becoming stagnant. I
01:49 Wouldn't I don't necessarily agree as a trap, you know that they want to set us
01:53 I think that they really rely on their great defensive ball pressure or one-on-one defenders and they funnel us into certain areas. I mean
02:01 You know, even as I say that that they're relying on the one-on-one every time I got an ISO
02:05 There's you know, almost two three people waiting for me to get in there
02:08 So I got to catch the ball on a live dribble and just be aware of my opportunities
02:13 It's uncharacteristic for us to have only nine assists
02:16 The ball's got to move a little bit more and again that starts with me
02:20 Just being able to push the pace get us some easy opportunities and just adjust to what they're throwing at us
02:25 So it's a it's a fun series, you know, it was fun. Just you know going into the game. It's still gonna be fun
02:30 But there's gonna be a level of chess that still has to be played and you know game one was just about adjustments
02:36 We obviously wanted to win this basketball game
02:38 Gave ourselves a chance in the second half when we were down by eight then they brought it up to 16 and they got up
02:43 To 22 when we call this timeout
02:45 So just gonna be replaying some of these possessions
02:48 But you know at the same time
02:51 Look at some of the positives that we can carry on to game to
02:54 hear the front mic
02:57 Carry my Curtis Dallas morning news you mentioned the environment
03:01 How did that either meet or kind of exceed your expectations and how did it affect you tonight?
03:08 No, I mean, it's basketball at the end of the day
03:10 You know being in this environment
03:13 You know, I'm used to it at this point
03:16 You know early in my career. There was a different
03:19 Relationship that I had with Boston just being able to come here be settled with a veteran group now. I'm here as the veteran
03:26 Over the past few years just experiencing the playoffs here even a regular season. It's been the same thing
03:32 I thought it was gonna be a little louder in here, but I'm expecting the same things going into game two
03:37 Crowd trying to get me out of my element my teammates out of my element
03:42 But again, the energy's got to be focused towards the game
03:44 Felt like I had a lot of great looks they hit back rim or you know, they were just a little left or right
03:49 So I just got stay confident and stay poised throughout this man. This is the best time of the year to be playing
03:55 It's only two teams left. Let's put it in perspective
03:57 You know, so the environment is gonna be what it is
04:00 But my focus is on our game plan and making sure my guys feel confident and I feel confident
04:04 And continue to shoot great shots
04:08 Here in the front on the right
04:10 Valencia King real talk sports out of Dallas. Thank you for your time Kyrie
04:14 I heard you mentioned two things tonight one you're grateful for the moment and that the young guys did well
04:18 When you see them embrace this moment, especially not being on this stage before I know it wasn't the outcome you guys wanted
04:24 But what is that moment like for you kind of seeing them rise to the occasion?
04:27 I'm very proud of them and and also
04:30 you know amazed at how poised they are this younger generation has
04:35 you know just a quiet confidence and a knowing about themselves and
04:38 I think when we hit a little adversity
04:41 We just have to know how to respond as a group in a team
04:43 we talked about in a lot of huddles, but we got to act on it and
04:47 That's what this this game is about is controlling our actions making sure that we stay positive
04:52 But also know what we're going up against the competition level, you know, we're the best in the world at this point
04:57 It's only two teams left. We've proven why we deserve to be here. We've earned our right to be here
05:02 so it's no time to
05:04 You know see ourselves as a short opponent or someone that's not capable of coming out of this, you know
05:10 It's game one
05:10 but at the same time, you know
05:12 we got two days in between so there's gonna be a lot of noise and a lot of who played well who didn't play well who's
05:18 under pressure and
05:19 Just tell my guys now it's not the time to fall into that and get divided and you know
05:24 Be on social media all day listening to people that aren't on the court with us. No disrespect to anybody
05:28 But it's just you know, we're the players out there
05:30 So we got to control what we can control and be ready to put on for put on for each other
05:34 Two seats down here on the front
05:37 You're right about that
05:41 I'm dying right right there with you
05:49 Mike Leslie WFA you guys defensively have been so good in these playoffs tonight the way that they were moving the ball
05:55 It seemed like you guys were a step slow on the rotations. What do you need to change?
05:59 How do you guys improve on that for you? We just settle in emotionally and also
06:03 just continue to pinpoint the things that are working for us where
06:08 We're funneling their guys to where we want them to go and then also offensively playing off a live catch
06:13 They do a good job of loading up when we're on a dribble. They do a lot of you know, reaching a lot of verticality effort
06:20 So you got to give them credit. We're going against a great team and now it's the time to just look at film
06:26 Spend the next two days healing up and just getting ready for a physical game, too
06:30 Dwayne price mouth calm Kyrie you guys outscored him in the third quarter in the fourth quarter
06:39 How do you piggyback on that and take that into game two?
06:42 And what did you guys do in particular to get to get to score back to eight points in the third quarter again?
06:48 just just look at film and then also be ready to wash our hands with what this game was and
06:53 you know how we we didn't rise to the occasion to start off the game or
06:56 Just be able to battle with them during those runs
07:00 They're gonna make some threes at times, but we want to make them tough when they're at home. They shoot incredibly well
07:05 So we knew what we were getting ourselves into but until we experience it then we wouldn't know
07:10 So this first time this group is experiencing the finals. We don't want to use as an excuse
07:15 We want to use that as an extra we want to use that energy
07:18 That we have of just going into it and playing our game
07:22 To our advantage and then you know, we'll see how to the chess pieces falling
07:26 Over here on the left Robert right here. So Robert Letel BS
07:31 Oh, obviously during the playoffs you've lost gave one before you've come back very very strong you yourself
07:38 I've been part of the greatest NBA finals come back of all time
07:42 I sense a lot of calmness and in peace with you up on the yes the stage here. How do you?
07:50 Spread that message to your teammates that it's just game one
07:54 We've been through this before and as a leader kind of get them in the right frame of mind for for game two
07:59 Yeah, it's not the first time I've lost in Boston. So I don't want to continue to make it a habit
08:05 But they've had the few
08:06 Games over me, you know, and they have our number, you know, and it's just not our number
08:11 I don't wanna say our number but over the past few years the teams that I've been on
08:13 They've had my number a little bit and you got to give credit to a good team
08:17 They've they've been good over the past three four years
08:19 So we want to show them respect but at the same time I want to bring our best game
08:24 You know, we have to play four of our greatest games in order to win this series in order to win the finals
08:28 It's not about you know, holding our heads over one game if we don't play
08:32 Well, it's the first of four
08:33 We obviously know that but we just have to for play for complete games four of our best games
08:39 And then we'll see where we stand after that
08:41 But in the meantime, we got to look ourselves in the mirror and it starts with me as one of the leaders on the team
08:46 How can I be better? How can I be more poisonous environment? It's not the booing. It's not the missed shots
08:52 It's more or less just our attitude and how we approach
08:55 Possession by possession our identity has been made on a defensive end. We've proven that I haven't had the best games offensively this playoff run
09:02 But we've been able to get stops
09:05 Timely stops and being able to pick each other up on the offensive end. We have all-world talent on this team
09:11 Skillsets out of this roof, but now it's just about remaining confident and always knowing that you know
09:16 You have somebody that's been through it. But now it's our turn to go through it together and
09:20 You know, this is what makes it exciting
09:22 Last question here on the right Tim Kato the athletic
09:25 The Kyrie
09:30 Now you're good
09:34 so similar similar similar question to
09:36 to the one you just answered but
09:40 When you guys went down, oh one, you know twice already in this postseason run
09:44 Do you remember what the next day felt like, you know, and clearly why that it worked in both of those series. I
09:50 mean
09:53 Yeah, it's it's hard to compare just because you're going against different players different series
09:58 But I will say that you know, the next day was was pretty cool, you know because to see us still
10:07 Join together in practice still go through our day-to-day routines and rituals
10:11 And and just hold each other up and hold each other accountable
10:15 But in a very healthy way and we're very honest about what we can continue to do better
10:19 And then we're very honest about how we can coach one another to be better
10:23 You know, we're gonna hear the familiar sentiment that or a familiar phrase that you know
10:29 A lot of guys haven't experienced the finals and on our team and that's okay
10:32 experience is the best teacher and
10:35 Once you get game one out of the way or game two out of the way you start feeling better about the series
10:40 But when you lose game one, there is a level of disappointment. We're human
10:44 I've always said that we're gonna feel the natural emotions
10:46 You feel the highs and lows of the journey
10:49 But when you lose a game like this, especially in the finals where everyone's watching it's gonna hit you a little bit
10:53 But again, like I said now is the time to not get on social media and not pay attention to what you guys are saying
10:59 No disrespect, but we got to go out there and just focus on what we can control
11:03 And I just know how the next two days are gonna go man. It's gonna be very loud
11:06 It's gonna be very chaotic at times people are gonna have words to say about how we can be better
11:11 How we're gonna win or lose the series?
11:13 But again, it's about us focusing on what we can control in that locker room and we have great leaders in that locker room
11:18 So it's not just me who has the experience that I'm gonna be leaning on
11:21 I'm leaning on everybody to help me out to as I help them
11:24 Thank You Carrie
11:26 Oh
