00:00 Calvin Jensen
00:02 They're the instructions from our referee former state champion Paul Tapley
00:08 But it was the body snatcher the great Darren Oba in the corner of Calvin Jensen along with Brendan Cotton
00:14 And we are underway and well to wait
00:16 We are scheduled for four three minute rounds
00:20 Jensen in the white the
00:24 Southpaw the left-hander Madden in what has become traditionally the Hawks boxing club colors the black and the gold
00:32 He is the right hander
00:34 Yeah, good about to kick us off here Andy a very evenly mashed obviously both boys plenty of amateur experience not too much in the
00:41 pros like I said in the opener, but
00:43 Yeah, both boys come to fight and that Hawks boxing gym always creates great champions
00:49 There is such a difference between amateur boxing and professional boxing in 2024
00:55 It hasn't always been that way
00:57 But the two are probably as far apart in style as they have been from maybe ever
01:03 Yeah
01:04 I mean they started bridging that gap when they brought in the three the three three minute rounds to bring it closer to the pros
01:09 But just the way the scoring's done. You're a hundred percent right?
01:12 It's it's it's two different completely different sports, and we'll see tonight
01:16 How different it is because these guys ones on the boom ones only have one fight and we'll see how they start off
01:22 Quite often the right hander versus a left-hander, which is what we've got here ends up a little scrappy. It can look a little ugly
01:31 The reasoning for that is the front foot
01:36 The front foot of both boxes keep your eye on that the goal of both guys
01:40 Is to have their front foot on the outside of their opponent the reasoning no knife
01:46 Why or just opens up your power shot?
01:48 That's exactly why so as soon as you get that foot on the outside
01:51 It just it creates a channel through your power hand to come straight through and straight through the guard of your opponent. Hopefully
01:57 Saving about sponsored by ultra-tune
02:00 Longtime supporters of ice boxing
02:04 Jensen just a little further away than I guess what Brendan Conner and Darren over I'd like at the moment
02:12 Hasn't really found his ranges yet, but they're busy on the inside these two boys
02:18 Yeah, it's a southpaw that person orthodox to that range is very odd
02:21 Especially when you're so inexperienced like these two boys to quite a different stance that takes a while to figure that out
02:27 Certain aminate traits from both guys and that was a great example
02:31 These two guys aren't loading up every single punch and it is a really bad habit
02:37 A lot of young boxers can get into they they try and throw that knockout punch every single shot instead of setting up the next
02:44 Well, that's it. Exactly. You have to set up your next shot and your power shot
02:48 That jab is so underrated
02:50 It's the best box or best punch in boxing and if you forgo that
02:54 most the diamonds will forgo the fight because
02:57 You feed up to be underneath you when you let your right hand go or your left hand go if you're a southpaw
03:02 There's some nice work there from Cooper Madden. You have the nose in the background ten seconds remaining in the round
03:09 I'm just allowing both boxes the opportunity to
03:12 Plan and throw one last flurry and they almost decide to touch them up at the end of the opening round a
03:18 knock - and we've come back to the corners here in
03:24 Calvin Jensen sunshine coach boxing club Brendan cotton and the team there
03:31 I
03:33 See some of these replays from that first round a very very active first round
03:43 It was for both boys trying to find their distance like we were saying a
03:46 Couple of good shots and I think we'll as this fight progresses
03:51 We're going to see a lot better shots as their feet come behind their punches
03:58 What a venue this is and the sold-out sign went up a long time ago many many weeks the
04:04 Crowd still shuffling in with daylight savings time it is
04:08 just on
04:11 ten past six local time so still quite the crew to arrive from
04:16 The city center, which is only a couple of kilometers away as the crow flies
04:21 Nice strike from Jensen
04:27 a
04:29 Lot of angles a lot of punches from both boys
04:32 The the output as we turn and I was really positive in round one
04:36 Yeah, it was and you can see they're starting to find their balance a lot better
04:39 You can see they're starting to bend their knees and when you bend your knees you generate power
04:43 Good shot there from Jensen. Yeah was
04:49 This is turning into exactly what I thought it would
04:53 Almost both guys on each other's chest very much on the inside
04:58 And it's it's going to be the better work right and one body shot that probably turns the tide in this in this fight
05:05 Yeah, both boys are doing a good job of not
05:07 Keeping it clean because usually these fights are very very scrappy and orthodox at the south wall
05:12 But they're breaking very well, and they're keeping it at range which is great for their amount of experience
05:17 I
05:19 Think it's the ropes Jensen does well to get off me
05:29 Two very different styles here Jensen obviously the counter shot
05:33 Yeah counter puncher wants to follow at the back foot where his Madden just presses forward breaks down that distance. So it's
05:39 It's a war of game plans here. We'll see which one wins in the end
05:46 Halfway through round two round two of four
05:48 Nice work from Jensen
05:54 For which shots straight down the barrel there from Jensen or scoring see what we have seen a couple of times already in this round
06:01 Nathan and no surprise when you've got orthodox Southport
06:04 We've seen those heads come banging together and it doesn't necessarily have to be a big head clash
06:10 It can just be a glancing clash. That's where the cuts above the eyebrow really start
06:16 You're right so often in Hapson's because obviously the heads are closer together than
06:20 Usual stance when two orthodox fighters fight, but you can see both boys
06:25 Even in saying that keeping their distance well for the majority of this fight
06:30 But they are starting to come together now and that comes with a bit of fatigue
06:33 Usually with a bit of fatigue they usually get closer to each other
06:36 Just over 30 seconds remaining in round number two, we're going to be halfway home
06:43 If in fact we do go to the judges scorecards here Paul Tapley
06:47 Is our referee our three ringside judges?
06:51 Trent van Gaalen Philip Holliday and Phil Austin
06:55 All the scores that matter if we go into the fourth
07:01 In the output is high
07:05 Yeah, Jensen finishing up very strong. Obviously. He's had the one pro fight
07:10 So even though it's a very minor experience, he does have the experience said in the pro ring
07:16 Broke very off with a bang with a decisive victory of a seasoned pro Jonathan to who so
07:24 Hopefully that'll put him in real good stead for the latter end of this fight
07:29 As we can see some replays here
07:32 Jensen keeping it at range and keeping
07:36 His opponent at the end of his punch and it was really successful, especially towards the last minute of that of that round
07:42 He started seeing off
07:45 Two rounds down
07:48 To the experience in that corner with the body snatch of Darren over if Darren over
07:54 That's him in the green hat there. You pay hit you in the ribs you stay hit water boost
07:59 One of the best ever to come out of Australia an absolute freak
08:04 Of his generation and yeah, he'll be he'll be passing on a wealth of experience in the corner
08:09 Round three about to kick us off
08:14 It is Calvin Jensen in the white trunks
08:19 Cooper Madden in the black and the gold
08:22 Great to see some familiar faces here tonight
08:26 Great Bam Bam Mark Flanagan is here
08:30 Liam Paro Jensen McCain in the former South African heavyweight contender Ray Schultz is in the house as well
08:36 always a pleasure
08:39 Shuffling for just so well through the Madden at the moment
08:51 For me probably the ring general. He's dominating that middle part of the ring
08:57 I was forcing the fire now, but he is creating holes now in his defense
09:01 Obviously a bit of fatigue probably setting in so Jensen is capitalizing
09:05 You can see through an uppercut before and it always knocked his head off
09:08 But there is some some holes starting to open up in Madden's game. So you just got to watch that
09:14 Good shot there from Jensen. Yeah, he keeps it just beautifully tight
09:21 Just missing the mark to end
09:24 Alvin Jensen again
09:26 Everything's very compact and the hands go back up to the chin straight away. He's
09:31 He's certainly got his fundamentals. There is plenty to work with there. This is just fight number two for him
09:38 We look forward to seeing these two is their journey really starts here on the premier boxing series
09:47 That's apply pressure he's obviously
09:54 plenty of time in the ring with a lot of sparring up north and you can see
09:58 Gas tank is full because he's been throwing non-stop coming forward non-stop and it doesn't seem like he's gonna stop
10:05 One minute remaining in
10:11 Jensen back against the ropes wants to get out of there. He does really nice turn there from Calvin Jensen
10:23 a
10:25 Terrific little fight to start us off two very well-schooled young man
10:31 Jensen's doing a good job. It usually when he throws his first combination he comes off in an angle with creates a different angle
10:40 Just a slip there
10:44 Very early in his career, but he's already doing some
10:49 Experience things so to say you're already coming off on different angles, which is great to see
10:53 Trying to sneak through again on the inside for the closing the distance and using that uppercut as Jensen
11:02 Back against the ropes. He's playing the countering role nicely
11:06 So I mentioned to the three judges were a little earlier you can have score in this I don't want any bar of it
11:17 Three good rounds three minutes remain
11:20 And it was a great third round once again plenty of shots thrown by both boys
11:31 But madam was probably the person forcing the fight like you said, but Jensen doing a great job of fighting off the back foot
11:38 You can see there was a slip there
11:40 But there's some great counter shots coming in from Calvin Jensen and he's probably having more
11:46 success or better success or to die with these shots
11:49 Brendan Cotton with the instructions a Damien Smith to Calvin's right there and over to his left
12:02 That's God's voice and here we go we're touching them up for the fourth and final round we
12:11 Walk away Calvin Jensen in the whites Cooper Madden in the black and the gold
12:16 Sunshine Coast versus North Queensland
12:21 Great to see Bam Bam Flanagan here originally a
12:26 Hawks boxing club product spent
12:29 So many wonderful years together with Dennis Clancy and the crew there
12:35 Wasn't he in some flights over the years ah
12:39 spectacular fights just yeah an Aussie legend for sure
12:42 Volume of punches versus the power in the punches versus
12:52 Who is the ring general who's taking the punches on the gloves who's getting hit so many variables
12:59 in terms of what the judges are looking for and it's an opinion it's
13:04 We all have one
13:07 Doesn't make us right doesn't make us wrong, but the three ringside judges here may well have quite the task
13:13 Beautiful short sharp punches by Jensen again
13:17 Neither guys really loaded up is nice left hand by Jensen
13:25 The receipt was a beauty from Madden and I was a good shot over the top there from Jensen the outputs definitely
13:32 In his favor, I think he's thrown more punches obviously Madden's marching forward
13:38 So it's just which way these judges are going to score it, but Jensen definitely the clearer shots are coming from that corner
13:44 Halfway through the fourth and final round neither
13:47 Young man is panicked as yet shown amazing composure Nathan you
13:56 There is a lot to work with with these two guys and massive gas tanks to both boys obviously very very
14:03 Inexperienced and look they've been throwing down from the opening bell and it hasn't stopped so both boys
14:09 Obviously testament to their fitness. They've done the work in the gym no doubt
14:13 Jensen again with a crossing left hand a nice little uppercut from Madden
14:21 Madden tries to attack the body where 45 seconds left in our opener
14:27 We are in the world to a division this one bought to you by altitude
14:30 Madden
14:33 Pushing forward looking to engage and that's alright says Calvin Jensen. I'll count a punch. I'm comfortable there
14:45 Double triple
14:47 Then gets out of the corner does so very simply by
14:51 Pulling his opponent out of the wire using his shoulder well once again made a roll and back get back to center ring
14:57 That's where he's the safest
14:59 Ten seconds remaining the final exchange of this fight and well to wait just one fight experience
15:08 Combined leading into this one. I think the two young men have done a terrific job
15:12 They've held themselves well their corners and their families
15:16 Congratulations to both Calvin Jensen and Cooper Madden and we'll be back with the decision shortly right here on seven plus
15:24 Seven plus this is a fight night number one on the brand new premier boxing series
15:36 Let's go center ring for the official announcement because James O'Shea has the numbers
15:42 All right, ladies and gentlemen, let's get set to make this one official first of all put your hands together for both fighters
15:47 What a great bout and a big thank you to ultra tune ladies and gentlemen
15:52 We go to the judges scorecards judge Phil Austin scores about 40 to 36
15:58 Judge Phil holiday scores about 40 to 36 and judge Trent van Galen scores about 40 to 36
16:05 All to your winner by unanimous decision and it goes to the blue corner
16:11 Calvin
16:13 Jensen
