00:00 Hello OG, I am Kristoff and welcome to this Spanish American inspired house in Zambales.
00:07 So upon entering, we were greeted by this outdoor space and garden.
00:21 [music]
00:30 This area we call it the lanai and next to it of course is the pool.
00:35 Over there we have the service kitchen and beside is the grilling station.
00:42 This swimming pool is not like the ordinary chlorinated pools.
00:48 This one does not have chlorine. We use salt to clean and mint.
00:53 [music]
01:01 So I am the architect of this house.
01:03 When I approached a client here, they already had a layout.
01:08 They have a lot of ideas.
01:10 But of course we need to filter because it's a collaboration, it's a teamwork.
01:15 There are a lot of professionals involved.
01:17 We have to give the client options.
01:20 We have to understand their wants, their needs, filter them out and arrive on a single vision.
01:26 [music]
01:33 So now we're inside.
01:34 The concept of this house is an open living.
01:37 We have a dining by the bay window.
01:39 [music]
01:42 We have the kitchen.
01:44 [music]
01:47 And moving here we have the living area.
01:49 [music]
01:51 You could see the Asian decorations and furniture.
01:54 Here you can really see the fusion of Spanish, American and Asian design.
01:59 [music]
02:02 The clients grew up abroad.
02:04 So they wanted something western style architecture.
02:08 Actually, it's not a house, it's not called a house, it's a villa.
02:12 The concept of a villa is focused on the circulation outside and inside the house.
02:18 They wanted a space that is somehow isolated or away from the neighbors.
02:25 They want you to feel like you're in a different place when you enter the house.
02:29 And then when you're in the bathroom, in the living area, they want you to feel connected to the outdoors.
02:36 That's the concept of their villa.
02:38 [music]
02:43 So the clients are married.
02:45 The husband is more focused on the exterior of the house.
02:48 You can see that it's a Spanish-American style.
02:52 [music]
02:56 And then the wife is focused on the interior.
02:59 She prefers decorations and patterns.
03:03 Inside you can see that there are Asian vibes.
03:06 She's from Asian descent.
03:08 That's one of the challenges of the house.
03:11 How do you incorporate Asian vibes, Asian style in the interior, but Spanish and American outside.
03:19 [music]
03:24 This house has a total of two bedrooms.
03:27 The first one is the main bedroom, which has a direct access to the outdoors and swimming pool.
03:33 [music]
03:37 It also has this wide and spacious toilet and bath.
03:42 And what I love about this bathroom is the bathtub and the automatic washlet.
03:49 [music]
03:57 And then moving up, we have the guest bedroom with its own toilet and bath.
04:06 [music]
04:10 An ante room and this private balcony.
04:15 [music]
04:20 What the client really wants is a simple rest house.
04:23 The wife is from Zambales, so she wants a simple province-style house.
04:31 But later on as we go on with the design, with those all available material options that developed,
04:38 the house became more detailed, more complicated,
04:43 the materials became more expensive, and the furniture became more sensitive.
04:49 I can say that the house became more powerful instead of just a simple rest house.
04:55 [music]
05:05 We have four main materials here in the house.
05:08 First is the Aral stone as accent.
05:13 We have the stone-coated roof for ease of maintenance.
05:18 And then we have the stucco for the walls to achieve that overall Spanish-American vibe.
05:25 And of course we have wood, not just ordinary wood.
05:29 We used wood plastic composite so that it won't discolor and won't get rotten.
05:33 [music]
05:38 The house went groundbreaking in January 2022, and then it was completed in January of this year.
05:45 [music]
05:47 The house took two years to be completed.
05:51 There are many factors that affect the schedule.
05:54 First of all, of course, we can't avoid the technical errors and delays.
05:59 But I think that here in the province, it's very difficult to get good materials.
06:04 So there are delays in delivery, and then there are new details in the house that are not usually done by others.
06:11 You still need to teach it to the workers.
06:13 Sometimes they can't get it done first, and they also have a hard time.
06:16 You need to guide them.
06:18 So there are many factors that affect the schedule.
06:21 Even the typhoons last year contributed to the delay in the house.
06:25 [music]
06:35 The property is around 300 square meters.
06:38 And then the floor area, or the gross floor area, including the ground floor and the second floor, is at 260 square meters.
06:46 [music]
06:48 About the construction cost, including the outdoor and the swimming pool, except some furniture, we reached around Php 20 million.
06:58 [music]
07:09 When I ask the client what's their favorite spot, they say nothing.
07:13 Because they like the whole villa, the whole house.
07:17 Why? Because that's how we design it.
07:21 Where you are is your favorite spot.
07:24 For example, you're in the living area.
07:26 You can't say your favorite spot is the living area.
07:28 Because actually, when you're sitting in the living area, you can see the pool.
07:31 It's open to the pool.
07:33 So basically, wherever you are, that's your favorite spot.
07:37 But it's not a specific place.
07:38 Because it's open from interior to exterior.
07:41 It's like you're in one place.
07:44 So their favorite spot is the whole villa.
07:47 [music]
07:50 As for me, my favorite spot is the balcony outside the anteroom.
07:54 Well, you can enjoy both the sunrise and sunset there.
07:57 [music]
08:08 Construction is expensive.
08:10 Even if it's a small or big thing, I would never consider it simple or cheap.
08:17 Because no matter how small your budget is, construction is complicated.
08:23 Or if you make a mistake, it will be complicated.
08:26 Your expenses will be higher.
08:28 Or you should hire the right professionals.
08:32 And then you have to have a good communication with these professionals
08:36 so that you can build what you want.
08:39 But at the same time, your needs are not sacrificed.
08:43 [music]
08:53 So that ends our tour.
08:54 Thank you for watching this video.
08:56 I hope you learned something from the story of this Spanish-American-inspired house.
09:02 Again, thank you and bye-bye.
