Farm owner Al Linsangan shows us around Coron Natural Farms (CNF) which stretches over a three-hectare land in Barangay Decalachao, Coron, Palawan.

The farm owners used to employ traditional agricultural methods but eventually transitioned to natural farming in 2016. It's now a learning site for agriculture offering programs that ditch the use of all chemical fertilizers and pesticides and more.

Al introduces the "15-30" prototype garden that can help you cut your food budget substantially. And could probably make you extra income if you were into the business of supplying fresh produce. Imagine being able to grow 30 different plants within a 15-sqm of land.

Explore the area and see what it likes to develop a nature farm.

00:00I'm Al Linsangan, Tubong Koron, and welcome to Koron Natural Farms.
00:18Koron Natural Farms is a learning site for agriculture.
00:26One of the initiatives of Koron Natural Farms is to develop prototypes or working models
00:33that can be copied or made by our viewers or our friends.
00:41So now we want to show you what is called permaculture.
00:45When we say permaculture, it is a form of agriculture where it mimics creation.
00:52If you want to have a farm, you say, I want to have a farm.
00:56You want one hectare, two hectares.
00:59In permaculture, we want to give you an example that you don't need that much.
01:05You only need 1,000 square meters.
01:09In 1,000 square meters, you have a house, you have a garden, you have livestock,
01:14you have a bit of everything.
01:18I want to show you a model we call 1530.
01:24When we say 1530, this is not a payroll.
01:28This is about 15 square meters with 30 different plants and vegetables.
01:34So this is the model we developed for 1530.
01:37Look, within 15 square meters.
01:41And I want to show you that this is the natural soil.
01:46When we copy the creation, you can have a very, very rich soil.
01:56One of the things that Coronatural Farms does is not buying and buying seeds.
02:01What we do is we collect seeds through open pollination,
02:05which means not all seeds you will eat and use.
02:09Sometimes you will sacrifice others for the next crop you will use.
02:14This is just interesting.
02:16This is where Ate Nenem planted it.
02:18Then it will dry naturally.
02:22And then later, she will get her harvest here
02:25for the next thing she will plant in her 1530.
02:29So this is what we call open pollination.
02:32So this is what we call open pollination.
02:35So that we don't have to buy seeds from the agri-supplier.
02:43So you can see behind me the traditional house of Tagbanua, known as Tigbaboy.
02:50This is the A-type house.
02:52This is a typical architectural design of Tagbanua.
02:58As you can see, this is what we put in our permaculture area.
03:02Since time immemorial, this design is very resilient.
03:06According to our Tagbanua elders,
03:09whenever a strong storm comes,
03:14they have to hide in their Tigbaboy or Tigbaboy.
03:17Because this is an A-type house, it is more resilient to strong winds.
03:22The materials that we use here are natural materials.
03:28Bamboo, palm leaves from Nipa.
03:31These are the flowers.
03:33Juan and Neneng live in the traditional Tigbaboy house of Tagbanua.
03:40I am Neneng, one of the caretakers here in our permaculture.
03:45These are my flowers that I plant.
03:49I plant them here in our area.
03:53This is what I harvest.
03:55For my next plantings,
03:58this is where I get the plants that I plant here in our area.
04:03I let the plants grow where they grow.
04:09The design you see here with 1530,
04:12it has a house,
04:14is only 300 square meters.
04:16When we say permaculture,
04:18you have the diversity of everything.
04:21It means that everything you need is here.
04:24You can save more because everything you need is here in your backyard.
