00:32 It was around 10 a.m. when President Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos arrived

00:39 at Bandar Seri Bigawan Airport for a two-day state visit to Brunei.

00:47 The first couple went straight to the Istana Nurul Iman or Palace of the Light of Faith,

00:52 the official residence of the Sultan and seat of government of Brunei.

00:56 Here, they were greeted by Sultan Hasanal Bolquilla and his wife.

01:02 President Marcos was given a 21-gun salute on his first state visit to Brunei.

01:10 The two leaders also had a general audience where Marcos thanked the Sultan

01:21 for his warm welcome.

01:24 The bilateral meeting between Marcos and Sultan Bolquilla was also held in the palace.

01:29 Marcos thanked the Sultan for the help of Brunei

01:31 in the natural disasters and COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines.

01:36 Brunei also celebrated the 40th anniversary of the freedom of the Sultanate,

01:41 which also marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

01:47 The two countries also agreed on a Memorandum of Understanding

01:50 on Tourism Cooperation, Maritime Cooperation,

01:54 and the recognition of Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.

02:00 The agreement also aimed at increasing the number of tourists visiting the two countries.

02:06 A letter of intent was also passed,

02:08 in line with the cooperation in agriculture,

02:11 which could also provide ways to add products exported by the Philippines to Brunei.

02:16 President Marcos also participated in the Filipino community gathering here in Brunei.

02:21 According to the DFA, there are 25,000 Filipinos here.

02:26 And based on the data of the Central Bank of the Philippines,

02:29 their remittance in the Philippines is worth 1.6 billion pesos.

02:34 In his speech, Marcos praised the excellence of overseas Filipino workers.

02:39 He also praised the continued investment in infrastructure,

02:43 including the repair of the NIA's runway.

02:47 In 2023, we were able to approve an investment worth 1.26 trillion pesos.
