Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured the people that measures are in place following the announcement of the rationalisation of the diesel subsidy programme.

He told reporters when met at the Global Forum on Islamic Economics and Finance (GFIEF) event on Tuesday (May 28) when asked about concerns raised by food and beverage operators if they are eligible for the diesel subsidies apart from the targeted public transportation service providers.

When asked if there were requests to expand the scope of the subsidy programme, Anwar said such proposals could be directed to the Transport Ministry and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, adding that further details on the implementation of the diesel subsidy rationalisation mechanism would be announced by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

00:00 I want to ask, because the Ministry of Industry has asked to expand the subsidy list,
00:07 from 23, maybe there will be more?
00:10 It is referred to the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Internal Affairs.
00:19 Do you have any plans to increase the price of diesel?
00:24 Oh my God, I'm waiting for the announcement.
00:28 By you or MOT?
00:30 No, always by MK2.
00:32 So, will you announce anything concerning the cost of diesel?
00:36 Today?
00:38 You want me to announce now?
00:40 If you insist, I'll consider.
00:44 So, if you're not insisting, we'll wait.
00:46 What time? This afternoon, right?
00:48 But, maybe Dato' Srini has a different view,
00:50 because the restaurant's promoter is afraid that the price of diesel will be passed to the consumers.
00:56 Maybe the government shares the concern.
00:58 We have taken enough measures, adequate measures.
01:04 Okay.
01:05 Thank you.
