Comelec monitors nearly 400-K hacking attempts on its website in April

Transcript
00:00 The bigger the database or trove of information available, the greater the bullseye or target
00:05 it is hackers or online predators.
00:08 And little wonder, some 400,000 malicious attacks have been launched to infiltrate or
00:13 hack the ComElect website in last month alone.
00:17 This as the PNP's website and database just turned latest victim to hacker depredations
00:23 that our Luisa Errizpe dwells on in this report.
00:29 As the Commission on Elections prepares for the 2025 national and local elections, they
00:34 are not only prepping for the election machines and paraphernalia, but also reinforcing the
00:40 security of its database.
00:42 This after ComElect monitored nearly 400,000 attempts of hacking in their website in last
00:49 month alone.
00:50 This is just a fraction of the 35 million attempts they've counted since the website's
00:55 percent finder went into operation.
00:58 That's why there is no let-up in training their personnel on safeguarding their database,
01:03 most especially before the start of the election period.
01:06 Meanwhile, ComElect is close to a "on-the-go" with the elections as the first initial batch
01:12 of automated counting machines arrived in the country yesterday.
01:16 These 20 machines are refurbished models of the customized version of Miro Systems' company-limited
01:22 ECMs and will be the official version of machines the country will be using in the upcoming
01:28 elections.
01:29 The poll body said, based on their tests, these machines have complied with the terms
01:34 of reference of the Commission and in accordance with the contract signed with Miro.
01:39 "All that ComElect asked for, we gave it all.
01:42 Even the ones we know will be spent, they will add more to their expenses.
01:46 They gave it all to us.
01:48 We even put the name of ComElect.
01:52 That's what's written there.
01:53 You can't see the company's name.
01:54 We insisted that even the logo of ComElect, all voters should see it."
02:01 On August, the first 20,000 machines are expected or scheduled to arrive in the country from
02:07 South Korea.
02:08 The ComElect assures all these machines will be thoroughly checked upon arrival and vetted
02:13 after.
