00:00 What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Check your phone, hit the
00:05 shower or boil the kettle. The annual tea census has been revealed ahead of UN International
00:10 Tea Day which falls on the 21st of May. This year it's found that nearly two thirds of
00:15 people say they need a cuppa before they can even begin to tackle the day ahead. Sweet
00:19 biscuits are the most popular snack pairing for 48% of us, followed by chocolate biscuits,
00:24 cake, a sandwich and chocolate. And when making a brew, Brits most commonly put in the tea
00:29 bag first, followed by water, then milk and sugar or sweetener. I suppose that clears
00:34 up the age old debate causing arguments in households across the country. And talking
00:38 of perfect cuppers, experts claim the optimal brew time sits around 3-4 minutes. But the
00:44 census reveals only 7% of us sleep for this long. In fact, nearly a fifth brew their tea
00:49 for less than a minute. And it might surprise you to learn that while we love our booze
00:53 in Britain, 70% would rather have a tea than a tipple. And it seems the younger generations
00:58 are the most keen to cut out alcohol in favour of a brew. How do you make your perfect cup?
01:03 And what's your snack pairing of choice?
