At his weekly press briefing on Thursday, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) spoke about assaults on officers.

00:00 Thank you. Thank you. Go second row. So new data from the FBI shows assaults on
00:05 officers hit a 10 year high last year. Republicans are attributing that to
00:10 democratic policies. What's your response to that? And what needs to be
00:14 done to actually drive those numbers down?
00:16 All assaults on law enforcement officers are unacceptable. And I think
00:22 it's irresponsible, of course, to attribute, uh, any increase. And I have
00:27 not seen that FBI data to policies connected to one party or the other or
00:34 one administration or the other. I think we all
00:39 stand shoulder to shoulder with the men and women of the law enforcement
00:44 community to make sure that they are able to do their jobs safely and
00:48 securely and free of assaults or violence. At the same period of time, it
00:55 continues to be irresponsible for extreme mega Republicans to always want
01:01 to engage in political stunts as opposed to try trying to find policy
01:07 solutions to solving real problems on behalf of the American people.
01:11 On the memorial, Republicans indicated what the holdup is. Is that ultimately
01:18 speaker Johnson's decision? It is ultimately a decision of the speaker
01:24 and the House Republican majority, and there's no indication as to why it has
01:32 taken so long when the law requires
01:36 memorial recognition. And it clearly is the right thing to do for the law
01:43 enforcement community and for our nation.
01:45 The plaque is done. It's my understanding that it is physically
01:53 on the Capitol complex, and it simply awaits a decision by the Republican
02:00 majority to have an appropriate ceremony of recognition and have it
02:05 placed in a location of honor here in the United States Congress.
