00:00 >> Casey Hudson joins us here live on this Friday on the early
00:06 line on sports great Casey as always thank you for being here
00:10 on TEL.
00:11 >> Of course, good morning guys hockey's been wild, but I don't
00:15 know if we can top everything that's been going on this
00:16 morning, but I'm happy to try.
00:19 >> Maybe Chris Kreider in the third period yesterday in
00:22 Raleigh, but I don't know if it really does come close to what
00:26 Scottie Scheffler has been through but that's where we start
00:30 things were getting a little nervy Casey for New York to take
00:34 a 3 '0 series lead in a highly competitive first 3 games
00:38 against the Hurricanes the Canes answer winning games 4 and 5
00:42 were a hefty home favorite for game 6 last night and had a 3,
00:47 1 lead entering the 3rd, but then enter Chris Kreider 3
00:53 consecutive goals all by one player in the Rangers add in an
00:58 empty netter for 4 in the 3rd.
01:00 They win 5 to 3 to advance to their second Eastern Conference
01:04 finals in the last 3 years Casey how do you categorize the
01:08 performance out of Chris Kreider in the 3rd period.
01:13 >> Yeah, he's a veteran with one of the best teams in the
01:16 league for a reason he's been there for through by a number
01:18 of ways last year was impossible to stop this down the power
01:22 play that's kind of carried over but even strength has helped
01:25 set this team up a lot and I want to talk even straight
01:27 teams in the league so Chris Kreider continues to do what he
01:30 does best and the funny part about it is Molly Walker tweeted
01:33 a little bit for the game that writer was not only good to go
01:35 but he felt that that tells you that he's probably working
01:38 through something right now like all hockey players are during
01:41 the Stanley Cup playoffs, but that's what you need out of
01:43 your veterans need people who can push through and pull
01:45 through your team and writers that guy.
01:49 >> Absolutely credible performance yesterday because I
01:51 was really writing that came off of 3 to 1 OK we're going to
01:53 get ourselves a game 7 in Madison Square Garden and Chris
01:56 Kreider happened in that game 3 straight goals in the 3rd
01:59 period that's incredible now we won't see a game number 7
02:02 between the Rangers and the Hurricanes we could see Casey a
02:05 game number 7 between the Oilers and the Canucks the
02:08 Canucks hold serve on their home ice to take a 3 to seriously
02:11 before we head back to Edmonton a lower scoring game here,
02:14 but a big win by the Canucks.
02:17 >> Oh my gosh this is turned out to be my favorite series and
02:19 I had to apologize to Joe a couple weeks ago because I kind
02:23 of discounted the Canucks not because I didn't think they
02:25 were talented because the goaltending you know, so that
02:28 can be nerve-wracking and your goaltender is one of your most
02:31 important guys on the ice, but I mean see loss has been
02:34 fantastic between the pipes for this team and his defense is
02:37 stepped up in front of him tremendously. I think that not
02:40 only could this possibly go to 7, but I think that the
02:42 Canucks have a chance to take it in 6 we've seen them went
02:45 back to back before we've seen him kind of solve the Oilers
02:48 mystery that is and the Oilers are kind of relying on special
02:51 teams to give them the momentum swings. They had that in the
02:54 first few minutes last night. And of course they capitalized
02:56 with having two goals in the first period not on the
02:58 powerplay per se, but using that momentum, but Canucks are
03:02 really good on five on five and they're trying to find ways to
03:05 put the puck in the net when it comes to special teams and
03:07 they've got guys that pull through in that third period. I
03:10 mean, they own the third period in the NHL right now hands down.
03:14 Casey what has blown my mind about the entirety of this
03:18 series between the Oilers and the Canucks was how easy the
03:22 oddsmakers expected it to be by far Edmonton was the strongest
03:26 favorite in the outright price to win this series of any of the
03:30 four matchups that we saw in the second round. Even last
03:33 night, the Oilers a slight game five favorite on the road
03:37 against the Canucks in a series tied at two games. All Edmonton
03:40 was a minus 200 favorite to win the series outright in
03:45 Vancouver. Now a hefty favorite themselves as they get ready
03:49 for game number six back in Edmonton. How many more games
03:53 does this series go?
03:55 I don't want to be overly optimistic, but I think that
03:59 Canucks can take it in six. We've seen them play well in
04:01 Edmonton. I don't give Edmonton any sort of edge between home
04:04 ice and away ice. And I think that they kind of started to
04:08 find ways to get the puck in the net. I think that them
04:11 losing the previous game was them kind of trying to solve
04:14 Pickard when you get a new goaltender between the pipes.
04:16 It takes you a minute to feel them out and it was different
04:19 from Skinner who they found how to get the puck past him. So
04:22 now that they've kind of got a rhythm going and when you've
04:24 got leaders like JT Miller feeling sorry about his
04:27 performance and stepping up and Pettersson who knows that he
04:30 has to do better in a contract year. It's kind of scary how
04:33 they can deliver and how consistent they can be here.
04:36 Again, if they show up anywhere in the first period, but they
04:39 continue to play very well down the stretch like they have done
04:42 halfway through the second all the way through the third
04:44 period, they can easily take this in Edmonton. So I'm kind
04:47 of feeling a game six for the Canucks right now.
