00:00 >> Hello and welcome to a Wednesday live right here on the early line on sports grid and
00:08 all across the sports grid network that includes sports grid dot com slash watch where you
00:13 can find your favorite destination to consume everything all across the grid. He is Donnie
00:18 Wright side. I am Ben Stevens. We are here together for the next three hours up until
00:22 11 a.m. Eastern Time bright and early on this Wednesday to look back on a doubleheader of
00:28 game fives last night in the Association NBA playoff action. Two teams returned home in
00:35 series tied at two all and made statements on their own home floors. A wild night in
00:42 the Stanley Cup postseason as well. We go around Major League Baseball. The WNBA season
00:48 tipping off last night with four games, including Caitlin Clark's WNBA debut and Donnie on this
00:55 Wednesday. It's scheduled release day in the National Football League. Would you look at
01:00 that a Wednesday in the middle of May? That is absolutely jam packed. Absolutely. And
01:06 also lost money last night, so I still have a smile on my face because it's a new day
01:10 today. Did have very much success on RBI props. We're participating in fan bulls Dinger Tuesday.
01:16 It's OK there. But I did hit my best bet on the show yesterday, which was an under where
01:20 a team scored seven times yesterday and the game still stayed under down in the big A.
01:24 So everything's alright. And also I told you people watch out for those road teams in the
01:29 NBA. Yeah, you should have watched out and not listen to any advice I gave on the Indiana
01:33 Pacers and or the Timberwolves yesterday. But today we focus on the NFL because the
01:37 schedule releases are coming out. So many big things. And also on the eve of a major
01:42 championship in golf as the PGA gets underway tomorrow from Valhalla. This is good times
01:46 right now, Benny boy. It's good times. DRS. Let's not forget the saying in the old adage
01:51 here. New day, new money. We look back, but we always keep an eye moving forward as well.
01:58 But we do look back on the doubleheader last night. We start with the nightcap in Denver.
02:04 Nicola Jokic starting to look like the three time MVP in the last four years in this playoff
02:10 series. Really, since they left Denver, he was named MVP for a third time in the past
02:15 four seasons, and his play has elevated like he showed throughout the regular season. Last
02:21 night, an effortless 40.13 assist performance against the defensive player of the year,
02:29 Rudy Gobert, who looked to be no match for the Joker as Nicola Jokic leads Denver to
02:34 a 112-97 victory in a 3-2 series lead over Minnesota. Superstar stepping up in the biggest
02:42 moments. Now, yesterday for the first time in the last two games, I did not take a triple
02:46 double here for Nicola Jokic. But if you would have told me 40 points and 13 assists, the
02:51 easy one should be getting the double digit rebounds, which he did not get and only got
02:54 seven. But it didn't matter. He was unbelievable and ultra efficient. 15 of 22 from the floor.
03:00 You also got 18 points out of Gordon, 16 out of Mary, 16 out of KCP. That is exactly what
03:05 you needed for those B-roll players to step up and help out your superstar. I thought
03:10 the Timberwolves would be live yesterday. In the first half, it was very close. But
03:13 that third quarter, where it was 38-30, where you saw that lead widening here for the Nuggets.
03:18 This is what you're supposed to do. Take care of your home court. And they finally did that
03:22 in this series. Now it looks like it's the Nuggets series to win here.
03:26 Finally, somebody wins a game in this series on their own home floor. It took until game
03:32 number five at altitude. But Denver wins by 15, covers as a four-point home favorite in
03:38 a smaller total of 206. Does just go over. The New York Knicks return to Madison Square
03:44 Garden, but bad vibes leaving Indianapolis. A shorthanded New York team back inside the
03:50 Mecca only booked as a point-and-a-half favorite after what we got confirmed, which was expected.
03:56 OG Ananobi missing his third consecutive game of this series. But no matter for New York,
04:04 40 points for Jokic, 44 for Jalen Brunson. As the Knicks return home to MSG and win by
04:10 30, 121-91, easily covering as a point-and-a-half favorite inside the garden.
04:18 Yep. And we were talking about this before the game, like that correlation, like forget
04:22 about even taking the Knicks as a minus two or minus one and a favorite as it closed at
04:26 the FanBlue Sportsbook. This team has only got to go so far that Brunson can take them.
04:30 18 of 35 from the field for 44 points and a plus 31. He was absolutely sensational.
04:38 And this is what's crazy. We talk about like those zigzag theories. One team doesn't cover
04:42 the game before take them the next game. Could you have two more wild swings than we saw
04:46 in game number four in Indiana and now back in Madison Square Garden where both of these
04:50 teams blew each other out? I have no idea what to expect as the series moves back to
04:55 Indiana for game number six. But the one thing I do know is Brunson is here for it, baby.
04:59 He really is. Certainly so. New York wins by 30 in game five. The Pacers won by 32 back
05:07 in Indianapolis on Sunday in game number four. We'll see about game six. But New York holds
05:13 a three to series advantage WNBA season here in the summer of 2024. Tipping off last night,
05:20 a quadruple header of action. The Aces got their rings in Las Vegas for a second consecutive
05:27 year in Caitlin Clark made her WNBA debut in Connecticut. Now she did score 20 points
05:34 ever so slightly under her points prop of 20 and a hook. But it wasn't the most outstanding
05:39 debut for Clark where she committed 10 turnovers in Connecticut, who was 27 and 13 a season
05:46 ago, looked apart as one of the best in the WNBA, a 21 point win over Indiana, they cover
05:54 as an eight point favorite some growing pains perhaps for Caitlin Clark now in the W. Yeah,
06:00 I got a little bit of foul trouble early, finished at a minus 13, but then score the
06:04 20 points here. Three point shooting wasn't great to start, but ended up making four of
06:08 11, which will take that on the night tonight basis. Got to clean up those turnovers. 10.
06:12 That's a little bit too many. Also, we had that graphic up yesterday, like betting a
06:15 triple double for the season. I think she had to get maybe three of those, which is
06:19 a wager. And the one I was looking at is like, boy, it's going to be hard for a guard to
06:22 go into the professional ranks and grab 10 rebounds in some of these games. And you see
06:26 last night zero rebounds. I'm not saying second to get a rebound the entire season.
06:30 Yeah, triple double is going to be really tough, but that's one of those games where
06:33 you take it, you move forward, you learn. She even said as much after the game, Hey,
06:36 look, you got to clean some of that stuff up. It was fun to play out there, but we got
06:39 to get better and understandably so a good performance. So 20 points in your opening
06:43 day, a triple double for Alyssa Thomas for Connecticut on the other side, 13 points,
06:49 13 dimes, 10 boards. That's her eighth triple double since the start of last year. Those
06:55 eight triple doubles in the last season plus for Alyssa Thomas, more than anybody else
07:01 in WNBA history has in their career by double that's for she has eight in the last two seasons.
07:09 If you want to call it two seasons now in the first game of the 2024 campaign, now to
07:14 the ice and the Stanley cup postseason Boston on the road in sunrise staves off elimination
07:20 in game number five against Florida, Donnie, a round of applause for your guy, the sway
07:26 man, Jeremy Swayman, huge last night for Boston as the bees win two to one over the Florida
07:31 Panthers to force a sixth game back in bean town.
07:35 Ah, swag, sir. From there for my guy sway man, he was tremendous last night. Something
07:39 I didn't see coming. I thought that was series dead and move on the Florida Panthers. But
07:43 now we extend it. The hardest game to win Ben is what the series clinching game weren't
07:48 able to do that on their home ice back to bean town we go.
07:51 The Oilers even it up in Edmonton. But again, this series has been anything but easy for
07:57 the Oilers. They score twice in the final two minutes of regulation, including Evan
08:02 Bouchard, the game winner as time was getting close to expiring the Oilers even the series
08:09 at two games a piece with a three to home win.
08:12 Add to absolutely have that man. You can't go down three to one and the team looking
08:16 to close you out on their home ice. Good win for the Oilers. And here we go. The best of
08:20 three now who's going to win this one.
08:23 So we also go to Major League Baseball. Interesting moment for the Astros yesterday. Ron El Blanco,
08:29 who has started off sensationally this year for Houston, a 4-0 record, ejected from the
08:35 game after a foreign substance check. The Astros do win in extras two to one over Oakland.
08:41 If you learn anything from the Houston Astros and the Michigan Wolverines, cheat, cheat,
08:45 cheat, cheat, cheat. What's it going to cost them? One start here. Load up that glove with
08:48 sticky stuff. Absolutely. It's one. You guys won a World Series by banging on trash cans
08:52 and having transmitters placed on your arms. What's a little bit of sticky tack here when
08:56 you're trying to dominate? Didn't this guy throw a no hitter early this year from last
08:59 year who was terrible? Cheat as much as you can. It's the American way, people, and it
09:05 works.
09:06 Donnie right side and advocating of cheating. Doug Gottlieb. Doug Gottlieb, the new head
09:11 basketball coach for the men's basketball program at Green Bay. What are you doing?
