00:00 Bonjour compagnie, this is Madison Beer and I'm going to be giving you a breakdown of my 5 favorite songs.
00:05 Ok, I'm going to talk honestly. I'm going to say "Stained Glass".
00:11 It's a song of mine that I released a very long time ago, but it is one of my favorites.
00:21 Which sounds hypocritical because it's not even in the setlist that I'm performing currently on tour,
00:25 but it is one of my favorite songs I've ever written because I think it was the first time I really had a stab at being vulnerable
00:31 and wanting to sort of articulate some of my emotions in a song.
00:36 I don't listen to my own music, not because I don't like it, but because I don't know, there's so much other music out there.
00:47 And honestly when I release a song, by the time I've released it, I've listened to it so much to get it to a place that I like.
00:53 So you won't really find me listening to my own music.
00:56 The second song that comes to mind would probably be one that was on my last album.
01:01 It's called "Rider" and it's about my little brother.
01:03 I do remember the first time I made him listen to the song, I was in New York and I pulled him in the car and was like, "Can I play you something?"
01:16 And usually when I play him something, obviously it has nothing to do with him.
01:19 So he was very surprised when he saw the name "Rider" come up on my screen. So it was really sweet.
01:24 Castles and pillows
01:28 And all of the places
01:31 I only really listen to my music in the car. That's how I approve mixes, that's how I approve masters.
01:36 I love listening to music in the car. To me that's the best place.
01:40 The third song I will say is my most recent single, which is "Make You Mine" because it's just such a fun song and I honestly had so much fun creating it.
01:48 And it's a sexy, fun, upbeat dance song. It makes me feel really good.
01:53 "Make You Mine"
01:58 I don't know if I would say this song was so simple to create, but I think it's definitely a different approach than when you're writing something that's a bit more vulnerable and emotional lyrically.
02:06 I don't know. I don't know if simpler is the word I would use. I think maybe I would use more fun.
02:10 The fourth song I will say is one of my favorites, is "Envy the Leaves". It is off of my last album as well.
02:17 "Envy the Leaves"
02:21 I just love this song. To me this is my favorite. Lyrically this is my favorite song I've ever written. I personally just love it so much.
02:28 "Why Don't We Lie"
02:34 I think that I do sometimes forget about songs. I'm on tour right now and in my Q&A that I speak to a lot of the people who come, they'll be like, "Sing this song."
02:42 I'm like, "Is that a song of mine?" I just, I don't know. I've been doing this for so long that, yeah, sometimes I can forget stuff.
02:47 I also, there's some that I try to forget. Sometimes I don't love them. I mean, I started releasing music when I was 13, so some of those songs I'm okay to never perform again.
02:56 "Dead on Dead Time"
02:59 Gosh, it's so hard to pick. Selfishly, I have to say that "Reckless". You would think that would be selfish, but "Reckless" is one of my favorite songs I've ever released.
03:07 And it changed my life so much and so many people relate to it and connect with it. And I, yeah, I just love that song. I listen to it sometimes and I can't believe that I wrote it.
03:16 "You're my love, I know, but you loved me first, that you'd never hurt."
03:22 I don't know if my relationship changes necessarily when a song does better or worse. If I love a song, I love it no matter what. I think "Reckless" is one of those examples of I loved it so much, I released it, and then it became popular.
03:34 And I love that and I'm glad people listen to it. But if it didn't ever become popular, I think I would love it in the same way.
03:39 Okay, guys, thank you so much for watching. Merci!
