How Palestine, UN reacted when Israel shredded the UN charter

00:21 the reaction of the Secretary General on that image? Well, obviously we've

00:29 told you before that we don't comment on the various remarks made by

00:35 different ambassadors and the theatrics, both in the past and the present,

00:39 are things that are part and parcel of the presentations the member states make.

00:44 We don't comment on those, but regarding the Charter, obviously this is an

00:49 organization that is premised on respect for the UN Charter and all of the

00:54 member states have pledged to uphold the UN Charter and we expect them to

00:58 fulfill that obligation. And do you feel uncomfortable to see that image in the TV?

01:05 I've been around here a long time, I've seen a lot. Look, all I can tell

01:09 you, look, that was a charter. There's many charters. There's one right

01:16 here. The Charter is intact, its ideals are intact. You resurrected it.

01:22 The Charter is something that will stay with us and like I said, it's the

01:30 founding document of this organization. As long as this organization exists, the

01:34 Charter exists. Ambassador, what is your reaction that the Israeli ambassador

01:38 shredded the UN Charter and said that's what the General Assembly did? It is so

01:44 insulting to all of us, to the UN and to the Charter. And those who behave in this

01:51 manner are pushing the patience of the membership of the United Nations. We

01:57 trust the member states in the United Nations at one point to say enough,

02:03 enough, this kind of behavior cannot be tolerated in the United Nations. Our right

02:09 to self-determination, to independent statehood, to membership of these

02:15 United Nations cannot be subject to an Israeli veto. They are not up for

02:22 negotiations. They are our inherent rights as Palestinians.
