  • last year
"I think the bigger problem which also many Council members have recognized, is that without a cessation of hostilities, or some kind of humanitarian truce that is immediately implemented," says Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE's ambassador to the UN at a UN Security Council meeting. The council has yet to pass any text on the conflict.

00:00 I think the most pressing need on the ground, which all council members have recognised,
00:04 is the urgent humanitarian need.
00:06 But I think the bigger problem, which also many council members have recognised, is that
00:11 without a cessation of hostilities or some kind of humanitarian truce that is immediately
00:15 implemented, far too many civilians have already lost their lives and far too many more will
00:20 continue to lose their lives unless that is put into place.
00:23 We reiterate the need for the parties to take measures to ensure the safety and wellbeing
00:29 of civilians and their protection, as well as humanitarian and medical personnel, UN
00:35 personnel and journalists.
00:37 Wars have rules and they must be upheld.
