00:00 This is our resident dermatologist, Dr. Jean,
00:03 to answer some of the questions you sent to our FB page.
00:08 So let's welcome Dr. Jean.
00:10 Good morning, Doc!
00:12 Good morning, Colleen, of course.
00:13 Good morning to all the viewers of Pinoy MD.
00:17 First question, Doctor.
00:19 Why are there white spots or white flakes on her nails?
00:23 This is the question from Glenice A.
00:25 Glenice, I saw your nails.
00:28 We saw that there are so-called pitting, ridges, and white spots.
00:35 These are very common signs of an eczema.
00:39 These are very common in patients with eczema,
00:42 and it is also common in patients with psoriasis.
00:45 The only thing that's added to psoriasis is that sometimes, those nails will rise.
00:51 So we should examine the condition of your skin.
00:55 That's where we'll know the full diagnosis.
00:59 If you have skin lesions pertaining to eczema or psoriasis,
01:05 or we can't say, maybe it's just a simple trauma.
01:09 Trauma to the nails.
01:11 So the most important thing is to go to a dermatologist,
01:14 board-certified,
01:16 so that the doctor can examine the condition of your nails.
01:19 From Wawi, what is the best way to remove 20-year-old cat's fur and its whiskers?
01:28 Wawi has what's called laser hair removal,
01:32 those diode lasers.
01:35 This can effectively remove the hairs permanently.
01:39 So it won't be 100% gone, but there are possibly 10% that will be left,
01:45 but it's just like cat's fur.
01:48 So that's what's important.
01:49 Go to a dermatologist and inquire about laser hair removal.
01:54 Next question, Dr. Jean, what are the possible home remedies for cat's fur?
01:58 We see a lot of home remedies for cat's fur.
02:01 You can see it on social media.
02:03 But of course, how do we use cat's fur for real?
02:08 Sometimes, cat's fur is normal.
02:11 For example, if our scalp is too dry,
02:14 or we use shampoos that can be too drying and irritating,
02:19 then we can have cat's fur.
02:21 Or this cat's fur is also possible because of a yeast infection.
02:26 So that's what's called seborrheic dermatitis.
02:29 Especially if the scalp is red,
02:31 so not only cat's fur is used, but also the redness.
02:35 Or seborrheic dermatitis.
02:37 So how do we use it?
02:39 Well, there are anti-dandruff shampoos that can be used,
02:44 but not every day.
02:46 That's a common problem.
02:48 Anti-dandruff shampoos are not used every day.
02:51 If the scalp is drying,
02:54 the cat's fur doesn't improve.
02:57 You only use anti-dandruff shampoos 2-3 times a week,
03:00 and we alternate it with a regular shampoo.
03:04 And then we have anti-yeast medications
03:08 that can be applied to your scalp.
03:11 So those are also anti-fungal.
03:13 Number 4, last but not the least, of course,
03:16 what is it, Dr. Jean, that is the problem with the skin of her two children
03:19 that is so itchy and they can hardly sleep?
03:23 I saw the pictures of your children.
03:25 So this is what is called scabies or scabies.
03:30 Why did I say that?
03:31 Because those lesions or those bumps,
03:34 commonly, scabies are seen in between the toes.
03:42 And because they have the same,
03:45 your two children have the same.
03:46 If these are just called dyshidrotic eczema,
03:49 which are also common on the sides of the toes,
03:54 they shouldn't be the same.
03:56 Now, I will ask you,
03:58 in your family, aside from your two children,
04:00 do you also have itchy skin?
04:03 Do you have itchy skin more often at night?
04:06 And how long has it been?
04:10 So, if you have itchiness, do you have itchiness?
04:12 Because if you have itchiness,
04:14 it looks like this is what is called scabies.
04:17 So, you should all rub together.
04:21 You shouldn't leave anything.
04:23 Because if you don't rub together,
04:25 one can get better and the other still has it.
04:27 But before you rub with anti-scabicidal oil pens or lotions,
04:33 like sulfur or whatever,
04:35 always remember that this is highly irritating.
04:38 So, we should make sure that your child's condition is scabies.
04:42 If not, if you rub like that, it will only irritate more.
04:46 You will still have secondary irritant contact dermatitis.
04:50 That's why I always tell this,
04:52 it's very important to go in person to your dermatologist.
04:56 When we see that picture,
04:58 my diagnosis can be different
05:01 when I see your whole body.
05:03 And I interviewed you about what really happened
05:06 and why those issues happened.
05:09 So, go to your board-certified dermatologist
05:11 to give a solution to your problem.
05:14 Thank you so very much, Dr. Ala Jean,
