00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the funniest moments in not-so-funny movies.
00:11Some spoilers may be ahead.
00:21Based on the real-life operation to catch the infamous serial killer, Zodiac is as grim a movie as one would expect.
00:30Who am I speaking with?
00:32This is Zodiac speaking.
00:35But when the investigators aren't busy getting to the bottom of the mystery, sometimes they're busy getting to the bottom of their drinks.
00:41While at a bar, political cartoonist Robert Graysmith orders a cocktail that's not up to crime reporter Paul Avery's standards.
00:47This can no longer be ignored. What is that you're drinking?
00:51After Paul reluctantly tries it, he ends up hammering several aqua velvas himself.
00:55It's kind of like a scene from David Fincher's other thriller, Seven, where Mills comedically mispronounces Marcus de Sade.
01:05It's a humorous moment which provides levity in an otherwise somber film.
01:09You'd probably think twice before making fun of another man's drink.
01:13I wouldn't make fun of it if you tried it.
01:18When a computer programmer Caleb Smith wins a contest to spend a week at the lavish home of his boss, Nathan Bateman, things take an unexpected turn.
01:26This is a scary story about the dangers of artificial intelligence.
01:29Yet the movie throws a ton of curveballs with its odd characters.
01:32Case in point, when Caleb asks Nathan about his AI robot, Ava, Nathan avoids the question by breaking into a spontaneous dance with his servant, Kyoko.
01:41What were you doing with Ava?
01:42What?
01:44You tore up her picture.
01:46I'm gonna tear up the f***ing dance floor, dude. Check it out.
01:49With a flip of a light switch, the psychological thriller about humanoid AIs practically turns into a groovy comedy.
01:55Go ahead, dance with her. Dance with her.
01:59No? You don't like dancing?
02:01While the movie proves that Nathan is a villainous tech guru, it also showcases, in quite a spectacular fashion, his incredibly weird nature.
02:08However, you would not be wasting your time if you were dancing with her.
02:18Hailed as an all-time classic, this film chronicles the turbulent life of wrongly convicted prisoner Andy Dufresne and his remarkable friendship with fellow inmate, Red.
02:27I'm Andy Dufresne.
02:30Wife-killing banker.
02:34Why'd you do it?
02:36I didn't, since you asked.
02:38You're gonna fit right in.
02:40Everybody in here is innocent, you know that?
02:42When trying to repay an injured Andy for scoring them beer, Red and several other prisoners search for rocks to make a chess set.
02:48But when Heywood offers his findings, the others inform him that he's actually got horse poop.
02:53What the hell is it then?
02:54It's a horse apple.
02:57Bullshit.
02:58Bullshit.
02:59Petrified.
03:01And just as it breaks apart, the others break into laughter.
03:03Safe to say that Heywood's choice of rock is pretty crappy.
03:07Heywood also has another blunder when he gets a famous author's name wrong.
03:19These brief yet hilarious moments show that it's not all gloom and doom down in Shawshank.
03:27In this action-packed tale, a former slave named Django embarks on a mission to rescue his wife, who remains enslaved.
03:33The movie paints a bloody portrait of 1800s America, but it wouldn't be a Tarantino flick without some humorous moments sprinkled into the mix.
03:45One particularly amusing scene happens when members of the KKK reconvene, and a Klan's member hilariously points out that he can't see out of his hood.
03:53It then leads to the entire group bickering about them.
04:04The irony of their inability to see through the trademark hoods is certainly not lost, and it highlights the film's critique of racism.
04:10This clever twist makes for a hilarious couple of minutes that takes everyone completely by surprise.
04:25One thing that's clear from this movie is how much Dr. Sean Maguire loves his late wife.
04:34When discussing her with Will Hunting, Sean reveals that she sometimes farted when they slept.
04:48It's not exactly a memory of a loved one you'd expect someone to cherish, and the two burst into laughter over the embarrassing detail.
04:54Considering the line was improvised by Robin Williams, it means the laughter shared between them was completely genuine.
05:04We expect characters to pass trials and tribulations, but not gas.
05:15On the surface, it might seem like a weird piece of info, but it's just the kind of silly humor that actually heightens the emotional depth of this psychological drama.
05:25One could definitely argue that this isn't a movie made for laughs, as it follows a crew of bank robbers in Boston attempting one last grand heist.
05:33But are bank heists usually this funny? As the robbers, disguised as nuns, go about their business, their plans are put in jeopardy when they get spotted by a police officer.
05:51What could be a tense moment quickly proves to be the opposite when the cop decides to look the other way.
05:56Sure, it's a dangerous job, but letting the robbers go and potentially endangering others is kind of a poor choice, right?
06:04Fortunately, the officer's cowardice makes for a pretty comedic scene.
06:22First impressions can make or break you.
06:34But when Heath Ledger's Joker arrives to Christopher Nolan's gritty reimagining of the Batman universe, he passes with flying colors.
06:41Showing up uninvited to a meeting between Gotham's top mobsters, he commands everyone's attention.
06:46Though the tone is still pretty serious, some of Joker's signature blend of dark humor manages to slip out.
06:52He makes a pencil go away during a rather murderous magic trick, and treats the mob with so much disrespect that it can't be anything other than funny.
07:11The Joker's hardly a laughing matter, but his sinister sense of humor and fearlessness can be seen in his character.
07:17The Joker's hardly a laughing matter, but his sinister sense of humor and fearlessness can be seen in his character.
07:27You can never quite tell what Tommy DeVito is thinking.
07:33In this classic mafia tale, Tommy and his cohorts enjoy a fun night at a restaurant laughing away.
07:38With Tommy cracking jokes continuously, Henry and the others tell him that he's funny.
07:42It sounds like a harmless compliment, but Tommy appears to take offense and grills them.
07:48You're really funny.
07:50What do you mean I'm funny?
07:52It's funny, you know. It's a good story. It's funny. You're a funny guy.
07:57What do you mean? You mean the way I talk?
07:59When it seems like things might get really bad, he flips the script and reveals that he's just messing with everyone.
08:04I almost had him!
08:06You stuttering prick, yeah?
08:08Frankie, was he shaking?
08:10Like Tommy, this scene goes through rapid mood swings between funny and serious.
08:15It's always a mystery what's going through the wild card's mind, yet that sort of unpredictability makes this moment so entertaining regardless of what emotion you're feeling.
08:26Calling this a grisly film doesn't do it justice.
08:28It's an up-close and uncomfortable raw look at the ugliness of war.
08:32So with that in mind, there's one particular event that unexpectedly causes us to chuckle.
08:36When Captain Miller and his crew finally locate the titular Private Ryan, they deliver to him the unfortunate news that his brothers have died.
08:42Your brothers are dead.
08:46We have orders to come get you.
08:50Given how morbid the context is, you'd be right to wonder what makes this disturbing scene so funny.
08:55Well, it turns out that the Ryan they talk to isn't actually the person they were looking for.
08:59We're looking for a different Private Ryan. This is just a big foul-up.
09:02Whoops. Is this a pretty cruel joke that gives us emotional whiplash?
09:06What, does that mean my brothers are okay?
09:08Yeah, I'm sure they're fine.
09:10Sure, but you have to admit it's still pretty amusing.

09:32This film is a cornerstone of cinema for many reasons.
09:35Award-winning acting, complex characters, an amazing look into the seedy criminal underworld,
09:40Mo loves the business. He never said nothing to me about selling.
09:43I'll make him an offer he can't refuse.
09:45Oh, and plenty of cannolis, too.
09:47Don't forget the cannoli.
09:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
09:51When Rocco and Clemenza carry out a hit on Paulie Gatto,
09:54Clemenza tells Rocco with complete sincerity to desert his gun in exchange for the cannolis in Paulie's car.
10:00Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.
10:04The improvised line in this brief yet iconic scene shows just how hilarious Clemenza can be in such a short amount of time.
10:10You have to focus on the top priorities, and in this case, it's delicious pastries above all else.
10:15Is there a comedic moment we missed? Let's have a laugh in the comments below.
