00:00 Many athletes and sports fans across Australia are excited to hear the news that the AIS
00:07 will be getting what some say is a much needed facelift.
00:10 Almost $250 million will be allocated in next week's federal budget to go towards the upgrade
00:15 of the facility, which includes a new large indoor multi-sport dome, a multi-storey and
00:21 fully accessible accommodation facility and a testing and training centre.
00:26 It's a result of an independent review into the AIS finalised earlier this year, which
00:30 confirmed the facility should stay in Canberra, but it needed significant investment.
00:35 That investment will be provisioned in the budget, while a detailed business plan for
00:39 the site redevelopment is finalised.
00:41 Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Sports Minister Annika Wells spoke here this morning.
00:45 Here's what they had to say.
00:47 We need first class facilities that reflect the first class sports people that we have
00:53 in this country.
00:55 With just eight years to go until the Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics, there's hopes
01:00 that this upgrade will give Australian athletes the best chance to succeed.
