00:00 100 customers of Manila Water were affected by the damage of its pipeline in Makati City
00:06 and that's because of the contractor of DPWH's destruction.
00:10 And Maki Polido was there.

00:15 Instead of being used for irrigation, the water is being pumped directly to the drainage
00:20 from the damaged pipeline of Manila Water.
00:23 The contractor of DPWH's pipeline in Chino Rosas, Makati was hit by the water at 11 p.m.
00:30 Since then, the water is being pumped until the valve was closed around 1 p.m.
00:37 At 2.30 p.m., the damage to the pipeline was fixed and more than 100 service connections were watered.
00:44 By 1 a.m., our contractor has already begun assessing.
00:49 They are excavating and looking for the exact location of the leak.
00:54 We also needed time to inform our customers of the incident and the possibility of water service interruption.
01:02 That's why we reduced the pressure at 11 a.m.
01:07 The hope is fading.
01:09 The water is being wasted, especially the water level of Angat Dam is decreasing rapidly due to the heat.
01:14 Most of the water coming out of the Angat Dam is coming from the griffons in Metro Manila.
01:19 We expect the water level to continue to fall because we don't observe any record rain within the watershed of Angat.
01:27 As of 8 a.m., the water level of Angat is 184.38 meters.
01:32 The hydropower plant is still able to run at this level.
01:36 It supplies irrigation and water to the people.
01:39 But if it falls below 177 meters, the irrigation supply will stop and the rotational water service interruption is possible.
01:47 That's why the appeal of Pag-asa and DNR is to save water usage.
01:53 Last week of July, the track of Angat Dam will gradually be recurved.
02:03 To avoid this waste of water, Pag-asa and Manila Water are both talking to the contractors.
02:10 Before they make a hole in the road, they should consult with the water concessionaires first to know the location of the pipes.
02:17 According to Manila Water, for every liter of water that passes through their system, 135 milliliters are wasted.
02:25 In 2023, their non-revenue water or the water that was lost in the waste or theft reached 80.59 million cubic meters.
02:35 That's equivalent to more than 32,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
02:39 In Manila, 42 percent of the non-revenue water was lost last year.
02:44 For GMA Integrated News, Mackie Pulido, for 24 Hours.
