00:10 Cuevas in Metro Manila?
00:12 You heard it right!
00:14 And we're one of the lucky ones to be given a chance to enter before it's open to the public.
00:19 Come on, let's change the game and explore the beauty of Apugan Cave.
00:24 [music]
00:30 Caving in the jun- I mean,
00:32 [music]
00:33 urban jungle?
00:34 [music]
00:37 It's available in Metro Manila.
00:38 And we're talking about a natural cave, right?
00:41 [music]
00:43 Welcome to the Apugan Cave of the Lamesa Watershed Reservation in Quezon City.
00:48 Actually, it's been there for a long time.
00:50 But it was only included in the 2021 list of Classified Caves of DENR.
00:56 And it's the only one in Metro Manila.
00:58 [music]
01:02 It's a Class 2 cave.
01:03 Which means, a tour guide or experienced caver is required to explore.
01:09 We can see inside that there are hazardous portions.
01:13 Like, there's a possibility of falling rocks.
01:17 And then we have also the stalactites, cave formations inside this Lamesa Watershed.
01:24 There are porcelain pieces.
01:27 So, from the assessment of our partners,
01:30 it's possible that there are buried porcelains and other materials inside the cave.
01:35 [music]
01:40 Apog-
01:41 means limestone.
01:43 So, we can see literal limestone inside the Apugan Cave.
01:48 This is our second time to go caving.
01:50 Because we've already tried it in Japan, in Baguio.
01:53 But they said that the experience here in Apugan Cave is different.
01:57 So, let's go inside.
01:59 Let's go, G.
02:00 [music]
02:02 Ma'am Erisa is here.
02:04 She's a forester from DENR.
02:07 She will guide us inside the Apugan Cave.
02:11 [music]
02:12 So, we're now inside the Apugan Cave.
02:15 It's an easier entrance.
02:18 But, first, we have to go down.
02:22 And we have to avoid the steep rocks.
02:25 There, we have to go down.
02:26 So, be careful.
02:28 [music]
02:33 Some people came to us and welcomed us.
02:36 These are our best friends who came here.
02:39 Here in our cave, we have different kinds of inhabitants.
02:44 We have a whip spider.
02:47 [music]
02:49 On the left and right, we have stalactites or limestones on top of the cave
02:53 that are floating on top of us.
02:55 These stalactites,
02:57 you cannot touch them.
02:59 You can't touch them.
03:00 We'll just look at them.
03:02 Because if we touch them,
03:04 they say that we might die.
03:06 Because these rocks are alive.
03:08 So, that's what we're preserving.
03:11 [music]
03:14 So, there's no set time when they'll open this cave to the public.
03:20 Once they do that, this is definitely another cave that you guys should visit.
03:24 And you can check it on your bucket list.
03:28 For GMA Integrated News, I'm Martin Javier,
