00:00 Regarding the migrant shelters in Clinton Hill on Hall and Ryerson Street,
00:06 there was a town hall meeting yesterday. Many of the residents voiced their
00:10 frustrations with the administration's handling of the two buildings that
00:14 were turned into shelters. They called for you to end the leases at Hall and
00:19 Ryerson and build more shelters that are smaller and spread out amongst the five
00:23 boroughs. We also talked to some of the migrants at the Hall Street Center and
00:28 they talked of some of the conditions, particularly with the hygiene and upkeep
00:32 of the living and shower spaces. They said the food portions were small and sometimes
00:37 edible and that they even lacked access to consistent drinking water. What is your
00:42 plan for the future of the Hall and Ryerson Street migrant centers? Is there a
00:45 plan to address the living conditions at the shelters and what have you discussed
00:50 with the Biden administration regarding expediting work permits and asylum
00:55 applications? Thank you and I don't think we could be any clearer.
00:59 195,000. 195,000 and we have managed this crisis. I think Camille's leadership
01:12 has been amazing with Deputy Mayor Williams-Isom and the entire team and I
01:17 said last year, probably even longer than that, this is going to start having a
01:24 visual representation of how large this crisis is. Not like other cities because
01:29 when you look at other cities sleeping in hospitals, airports, on the streets,
01:33 you're not seeing that here for the most part. But let's be clear, every local
01:40 and state official must stand up and call for the federal government to do
01:44 its job. We're doing our job but they have to do their job also and I
01:49 encourage the councilwomen in that area who seem to have taken a shift in her
01:55 belief of this crisis now because now it's local. I encourage her to go to the
02:01 Port Authority, hop on a bus, go to DC like I did for ten times and say the
02:07 federal government must do their job. We're going to continue to do our job
02:10 that we have. This is a crisis that we've managed and we're going to
02:14 continue to do so. It's not going to be pretty all the time but we're going to
02:18 continue to manage this crisis.
