Adults here in Birmingham are said to be the least active on average across the West Midlands according to figures by Sport England. I'm here today in Birmingham to ask the people here what can be done to get Brummies to get up and active more often.

00:00 Okay, I don't know specifically for Brummies, but for me I do quite a bit of active exercise
00:06 and I think some of that's finding what you love.
00:09 So I find it's trying things that you like because I think I've done a lot of, whether
00:13 it's walking, whether it's running, boot camps, gyms, you have to kind of try lots of things
00:17 before you find the thing you enjoy to be active because some things can put you off.
00:21 So I think once you've found the activity that you like, whether that's jujitsu or boxing
00:25 or whether that's running, walking, mountain climbing, you have to find the thing you enjoy
00:29 so it doesn't feel like exercising.
00:30 I think once you nail that, that's probably where you'll win.
00:33 I come from London and I know Birmingham's in financial troubles.
00:37 So all I can think of is the council promoting walking and jogging areas from around this
00:44 beautiful city because you've got some beautiful sites here.
00:47 Well I guess if they had more open spaces for running or maybe just some more walking
00:52 activities because you see all the areas they are really busy with people coming from work,
00:57 people coming and going everywhere.
00:59 I don't feel like there's such open space for them to be.
01:04 I think if the government was to encourage people to go and exercise and make it a lot
01:10 cheaper and more accessible, I think people would be more happy to do exercise.
01:15 I think it's a bit expensive and the gyms are quite busy because I go to the gym and
01:20 they're very, very busy.
01:22 So it's having more facilities and more choices of different things that people might be interested
01:27 in.
01:28 I think a way to encourage Burmese to get out is just ensuring places they can get out
01:32 are safe.
01:34 Green spaces just around the city, make sure they're inclusive and just enabling a lot
01:40 of people to get out there.
01:42 And as well, probably local transport links to green spaces for example.
01:46 Just giving people the right amount of opportunity to get out somewhere and if they're in more
01:52 urban areas, making sure that they're safely lit and just making sure again safety is a
01:58 top priority for people.
