What are the causes behind the struggling High Street?

00:00I mean, there's a few different aspects, but probably, obviously out of town affects it.
00:07You know, massive shopping centres out of town, or your retail parks.
00:11But better public transport, free parking, stuff like that really,
00:16encourages people to come into the city centre,
00:18and then they go to the bars and restaurants after they've been shopping, so, yeah.
00:22Well, I think there is an imperative to shop locally, or there won't be any local shops.
00:27So we need to get the balance right.
00:31And obviously, this is like carpet rice, we're in a tough world.
00:36So, you know, if they can't compete, are you suggesting they should be in the city centre?
00:44Not for me. Chains, stay outside, and independents, stay in.
00:50I think that it's online that is killing the high street, and that it's bad for social behaviour.
